According to their official website, Kyoto Animation has announced a new TV anime "Hyouka". It is based on the mystery light novel "Kotenbu series" first published in 2001.

Hyouka anime official website

Update: To be aired from April.

Staff
Director: Takemoto Yasuhiro
Series Composition: Gatoh Shoji
Character Design: Nishiya Futoshi
Music: Tanaka Kohei

Synopsis:
Oriki Hotaro is a high school boy, who always acts passively. One day, he enters "Koten Bu (Classic Literature Club)" as recommended by his elder sister. There he meets Chitanda Eru, Fukube Satoshi, and Ibara Mayaka. Chitanda is a calm beautiful girl but she turns into an embodiment of curiosity once she says, "I'm interested in it (Watashi, Kininarimasu)". Fubube is a smiling boy who excels in memory, but he never constructs his own deduction. Ibara is a short girl and is strict with others and herself. She loves Fubube, but he always dodges her approach. They begin to investigate a case that occurred 33 years ago. Hints of the mystery is buried in an old collection of works of the former members of Koten Club. The collection is titled "Hyouka".

KyoAni doing anime about high school clubs again? Well, sounds interesting enough. Ooh, and it looks like Hyouka has been published under the same publishing company for the Haruhi novels as well! :3

YES! YES! YES! KyoAni never cease to entertain me! Kanon 2006, Lucky Star, Haruhi Suzumiya, K-On, Air, you name them!

*breathes*

Since it's a mystery I hope it'll bring back the gorgeous art from Either Haruhi 2006 or Clannad.

Everything in Japan is high school boy / girl.
Even elderly, cars, and buildings.
Why do they even bother saying it?

Why do I feel like this is going to be more moe than "mystery"? And what the fuck, where the hell is my Full Metal Panic?

Hmm... Sounds like a different approach for them - but I will watch it nonetheless. I've enjoyed every piece of work they've done so far. Lets hope it's the same with Hyouka.

... I say this is not a good move by Kyoani. Story that deals with old memories and old stuffs are usually forced in terms of mood + the setting itself is a huge cliche. This series must need Kyoani's usual addition of fluffiness and moe-vibe to attract someone like myself.

...so, not watching... but I will watch it instantly once people starts their usual bashing of Kyoani with moe-blob. I love to be in a war field.

Eh, synopsis doesn't sound that intriguing, but it's mystery and KyoAni, so what can go wrong?

I'm looking forward to it, even if it isn't Haruhi,

According to the summary, Fukube Satoshi is a boy.

Sounds interesting. I may just try it, if the art intrigues me as well.

When is Kyoto Animation going to learn? Full Metal Panic is what the people want! I was hoping that would be their next announcement... *Sigh*

If nothing else, they could at least have animated Little Busters!, but noooooo...

Says who, though? FMP sold decently but all but two of KyoAni's other shows have completely crushed it in sales. The massive hard-on for FMP is more of a western fandom thing (i.e. has virtually no bearing on what gets animated). Certainly it's not unpopular in Japan but there's a big difference.

I'd totally watch another FMP anime but wish western fans wouldn't assume their wishes are the wishes of the market that actually supports anime with its purchases of the original releases.

The novel art looks like this

And its actually stuff from famous novelist, the real novel not "bunko" or some shit.

If Chitanda is a Kuudere (or even better, a realistic character with Kuudere-esque traits), then I will watch.

Otherwise, thanks, but no thanks, unless it is hated by KyoAni fanbois, which means that it will actually be worth watching (like Nichijou was, relative to K-ON and Haruhi)
