| Are the sales for Mawaru Penguindrum good? I feel kinda sad looking at merely 6,000, especially compared to the 10k+ and 20k+ of bigger hits, because I can tell the director really put his heart and soul into the anime. Then again, I am unfamiliar with the anime industry, which is why I am asking this question. |

His breakdown isn't bad, but there's a bit more to it than that. 3,000/volume may not seem good, but if you get 3000/volume for a a long show (8-9 volumes) rather than 3000/volume for a short show (3-4 volumes), the amount of continued revenue gained helps offset the low sales. Edit: Ah. Someone else commented with a great article. Only thing I'd add would be the disclaimer about expectations. Let's say new Madoka movies do 25,000 each. That would be considered a gigantic failure despite still making money of it. |
