I read that Lucky Star makes a lot of references to other anime. Which are the main ones that it references most often? |

Alot of different ones. Aside from Haruhi which gets a lot of nods, theres a ton of different ones that only really get one or two references. Plus as Ryuusei says, theres notable references to live action TV shows (I remember the "Monkey" TV theme in the karaoke section) actors, singers and quite a few video games. Tbh it was one of the first anime I watched (even pre-Haruhi) so I didn't get hardly any of the references at the time and I still found it really funny personally. |

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya and Full Metal Panic. Those are the two anime referenced the most in Lucky Star, every episode without fail. If you take anime seriously, you're autistic. |

And I don't recall seeing any mecha in EVA. Yeah, I know the drill. But most sites take Evangelion as mecha, so I will, too. Modified by Tiago97, 10-22-11, 8:52 AM |

Well, surely you can't just hate a show just because it has mecha in it can you? It's due to factors that are strongly associated with shows that have mecha rather than the mecha's themselves that you hate I'd guess. Or you could really just hate the sight of Mecha. Speaking from considerable bias, I'd say that FMP is worth a look at, it's not just mecha, it's got comedy as well (like the entire series of Fumoffu!). Wouldn't hurt that much to look would it? |

Why has this turned into an EVA/Mecha discussion? Besides "half the jokes" are NOT Full Metal Panic related. Most of the humour in Lucky Star is slice of life/observation stuff, and some but not all of that observation is pop culture. (And in comparison to alot of mecha, FMP doesn't have that much anyway in comparison to the standard. ) |

Doesn't Lucky Star make a Clannad reference? I'm pretty sure, but just checking... |

mitch3315 said: I refuse to believe that anyone truly hates mecha. I don't particularly believe it's that uncommon actually, I also hate watching mecha anime although I have been giving Full Metal Panic! a try, can't say it's impressing me that much though. TTGL is the only mecha I ever enjoyed and that's mostly because going in I didn't think I would like it much but the way it developed really caught me off guard. Anyhow...in regards to the topic at hand is it very critical then to know the anime referenced in order to like Lucky Star? Apparently Haruhi Suzumiya had a lot of parodies but I didn't catch many of those. SZS is the only series where I was able to catch a lot of the jokes/parodies and even then I probably missed quite a few. Also, why have they never made a second season of Lucky Star? They've only got more material to work with now considering how many anime have come out since it originally aired. Harems don't exist in America. If one guy is constantly surrounded by beautiful girls, then he's probably the gay friend. |
