Yeahhhhhhhhhhh...that's not correct and those people who have seen DBZ before know that it's going to be contradicted soon. I don't know if it's a mistake or if King Kai just doesn't know any better. Also, King Kai refers to the planet as Planet Vegeta (at least, this is in the English Dub) even though it wasn't re-named Planet Vegeta until the Saiyan-Truffle war ended (King Kai failed to mention this or Vegeta in the first place). It was called Planet Plant.

Kaio told Son Goku the story of planet Vegeta: An intelligent race, the Tsufurujins, and a physically strong race, the Saiyajins lived on Vegeta until the Saiyajins attacked and defeated the Tsufurujins. After that, the Saiyajins occupied other planets. For further missions, they had to close a bargain with another planet. The Saiyajins occupied planets for them and for this, the Saiyajins got money and technology. But there came a day when a mysterious man destroyed the planet Vegeta.

that backstory is going to get retconned so hard it hurts. seeing how king kai was surprised to hear that goku was a saiyan it's hard to believe that he knows the entire history of the saiyan race

I guess King Kai doesn't know the whole history of it, because he didn't pay much attention when planet Vegeta was destroyed, he just had this conclusion.

That was a nice history lesson. So the two races who inhabited Planet Vegeta fought over the planet due to their creative differences. Due to the major inconvenience that the Saiyans found themselves in after defeating their opposing race, they had to ally with an equally shady race from another planet to sate their bloodlust for battle. Only for Planet Vegeta to supposedly get obliterated from existence by its watchful guardian. Most likely, that will come into play later in the series. I am quite curious, though. Vegeta, one of the two looming Saiyan invaders, shares the same name as his home planet. That's pretty noteworthy if you ask me.

Very late actually, since this is primarily TV material (on the basis of one or two trails thrown by the author at the team). This is used as the basis for the first saga's threat in GT.

I really enjoyed this episode's history lesson. Apparently, the saiyans were bloodthirsty already from the start. You can tell they haven't exactly changed - Goku being the exception as a result of his morals being earthly. On the other hand, seems God has taught them everything he can. That was rather quickly if you ask me. Of course, they are far from ready to fight the saiyans - they will have to polish their abilities before that time.

This was my interpretation as well.. enough contradictions will be seen later in the series :).

And here I am saying I wasn't gonna watch DBZ after completing Dragon Ball and I'm over 20 episodes in! I'm having a blast.
