to clarify something, josei is a genre for mature females, the male equivalent of a seinen.
so even though the tags say josei, i'm seeing a lot of guys watching this. there's a hell of a lot of recommendations and reviews i'm seeing, and even the synopsis is interesting me a bit.
so thats why i'm asking my question.
also, i'm pretty sure i havent watched any shoujo or josei before, becuz their not intended for me so i dont think (and dont know) if i'll like it or not.

It's AIMED towards girls, I don't really see that as it being necessarily something ONLY for girls =P. If your seeing alot of guys watching this then you already have the answer to your question.
~But me being a guy, I have to say the show does make me wanna be a parent so badly. ( I won't go and bang up some girl just for that though xD, I'll wait for my time )
It's a heartwarming show you should watch it.

I'm a guy and I like it. It's not really girly though...I think it deals more with emotions and family/friend bonds and stuff which I guess is generally why it appears to be aimed towards girls.

Both guys and girls can watch it and like it; it just depends on the individual.

Nodame is a josei, but I really love it.
it's normal. the Usagi Drop's story itself also pretty good

Hitman Reborn and Durarara are shounen but girls love it (Fujoshi, I meant =3)

I don't really feel this show is intended just for girls. Although I don't care if it was it was good. I mean I am sure you know the plot of it, if it sounds interesting and it intrigues you than watch an episode or two. If you like it there is nothing wrong with watching it, even if it is a bit girly.

To be honest asking here is most likely the wrong place to ask. Most people on the forums enjoyed the show so you are going to get a lot of the same answer.

Like everyone has said, it appeals to a lot of guys. I'm a guy and thought it was great. However, I don't think it would be as appealing to a younger or less mature audience. If you have an open mind to anime genres, I bet you'd find it worth watching. If you need action and awesome around every turn, obviously not.

I stopped paying attention to genre a long time ago xD also, I've always thought that both seinen and josei suit girls AND guys just fine, even though that's not what the genre suggests.

I have lots of guy friends who don't read shoujo because"it's ONLY for girls", even though they obviously like it xD. So yeah, people should be open to all genres, and what they think they would like to watch.

yea but thats the thing, if somthing is made for a certain audience, its ONLY for that audience. an "outsider" can watch it if they want, no problem, but if they complain about it, its their fault for watching it in the 1st place.
besides, wont it be embarrasing for most guys to watch or like certain girly stuff? that would be like saying (sorry stupid example but can't think of anything else atm) that a guy really likes Justin beiber music?

In all honesty I feel this show is aimed much more for men taking into account the circumstances of the story.

In any case, its target audience are adults, and anyone can appreciate this marvel.

Demographic is a pretty useless thing to go by I find.

This, if you let the target demographic of a certain anime discourage you from watching it you will miss out on some good shows.

I think older males can relate to Daikichi, at least that worked for me.

I personally hate when some series and other stuff are said to be for girls or boys. there's no such thing, since everyone can watch everything. It's very easy to relate to another character, like some guys may find Daikichi as character to relate to.

I'm a man, having just finished it, I can say this is my favourite anime, I loved it. The main character is definitely relatable to men. I was constantly tearing up during this, my sister just had a son so I must be getting broody! haha.

It comes off more as a Slice of Life piece loaded with lots of moe & kawaii moments with that classy little miss, Rin. Oh and word to the wise, ignore the manga, the anime leaves some solid clues that point toward Dakichi & Rin making a new family with her schoolmate's mom. Those kids came off as a perfect pair of siblings and their parents were definitely looking for romance as was hinted in the final two episodes in some choice scenes. The final scene with Rin & Daikichi left a strong vibe that he was her father in all but name, seeing that innocent trust in her eyes and her own strong assertions that he is her trusted guardian, just not a conventional birth parent. To hell with the manga!

I simply dont care if Josei or Seinen in ther Genre tab the only thing i really care about there is if its Josei/Seinen or Shoujo/Shounen, as for this show i would never say that its only for Girls or Guys i get the Genre for many Shoujo Manga/anime that are filled with chliche prince like Male Characters but this one isnt just your cliche show

So a girl can't watch Death Note or Hunter x Hunter because there are shonens ?
For me it's more an anime for boys than girls. ^^

I'd my proper serving of shounen manga and animé when I was a teenager brat and after almost 15 years of "retiring" (between 23 and 38), now I'm 39 yo male and I don't care tags or aims at all. Only thing I care is a good plot. And UD has an amazing one. Only thing that I don't like... it's so short and inconclusive!! But I still rly liked it.
