| Yikes, this makes Kubo's backgrounds look god-like. Regardless, I figured the author just wanted to wrap up the past arc as soon as possible without starting anything new. |
| I was kind of annoyed as I was reading the first 8 pages. I was like, "What the...?! Is Togashi-sensei sick again??? Did he injure his hand, or probably his brain?". Well, for some reason, I find it an effective way to end the "Chimera Ant Arc". R.I.P Meruem and Komugi. So, the new story arc (or maybe the final story arc) is now unfolding. Who are these Jyuuni Shin (12 signs of the Zodiac)? These 11 shady individuals at the end of the chapter. Looking forward next week. (^_^) |

| I'm gonna assume some people are thinking this way a way to waste pages this was so to speak an arc closer and opener. I'll admit for a second their I'm like huh? It's a way to have a finale to the King's death. One thing I can say is I love Togashi and his narrative side. So I'm guessing Ging could make an appearance. Even two star hunters not so much three star. But a new arc begins. Despite what many think Chimera Ant Arc to me is my favorite if you read it in one go (without the hiatuses) it's done very well. It's technically Gon and Killua's first job as Hunters. It shows the true dark side of being a Hunter. People die even those close to you but you're not considered a hero in any way recognized nor or you honored killed on the job. Mentally for their age I'm surprised how it was handled. I would have been crushed mentally at that age as strong as I was at 12. |

| I guess I'm in the minority here since I didn't mind those 'wasted pages'. The King never even beat Komugi once. How sad. I'm glad they said the people who were hypnotized by Pufu died. I was wondering about that. I figured they had to. The eleven on the last page are an interesting looking bunch. They all seem to have something going on with their heads. There's one that looks like a hairy meatball, one with flame pony tails, one with something on it's head that looks like a giant button or a pillow, devil horns, flower head, playboy bunny etc. Not one 'normal' looking one in the bunch. Well, it's true that there are 11 of them but I bet Netero is also a member of the Jyuuni Shin and since he's dead...pretty much explains the 11 figures. Also, if you look back at the 3rd figure from the far left (if my memory is not really juggled up with all of the hiatuses of Hunter X Hunter)... I really bet that figure is Ging. |

| While all those black pages were effective indeed, you have to admit that it was kinda ridiculous. After all the implications that the King and Komugi would die together, i felt that the space was a bit wasted. And yep, the Chimera Ant arc rocked! |

Gon was on a mission to find his dad. that was abandoned with the introduction of this previous arc. Netero is dead and that really ruined the dynamics of this manga. it will be interesting to see how things play out now. |
| Well at first when I read this chapter I was like, "Oh no, is Togashi getting lazy again(or sick)" but that was probably because I didn't feel too satisfied for waiting a week for a chapter like that, especially because there's no one piece this week so I wanted HxH to meet my fill for manga. Turns out it wasn't that bad, especially because of the introduction of the Jyuuni shin(that's what you guys are calling it. Guess i missed or forgot where he called them that). They'll probably be bad ass characters like the arrangers from bleach, or the 11 supernovas from one piece. Can't wait till next week and not to mention for the fricking ANIME that comes out sunday. I'm really excited for it as well as for the *one piece spoiler* 2 year time skip and Bakuman season two which the mangos are all in my top 5 at the moment. Anyways there's my rant. |

The first eight or so pages were effective in giving you the idea that the king did die, and I still think that if it wasn't for the hiatuses people wouldn't be so sure it was bad. That said, I think it's worth noting that the Jyunni Shin are based on the chinese zodiac and not the western one. |

The dragon guy and bunny girls are pretty much giving this away. Still, none of them strike me as a horse, and I just can't guess what's Flowerhead's sign. Doubt Ging is going to be in there, he strikes me more as the "lonely" kind of guy. Hell, I'm pretty sure the 95% participation requirement set by Netero is pretty much his way of letting Ging be able NOT to participate. The end of the Chimera, was, well, alright I guess. I also kinda scringed at the beginning at first, but I'm pretty sure that won't stick out too much in the volume release. To be honest, I think most people have stopped caring since it first started, so I can't really think anything of it. Edit : Well, flowerhead has some kind of feather, so I'm going to say Rooster. |
| jeez i was expecting a much bigger shitstorm over the 8 blank pages than this. and only one kubo reference at that. i guess that last two pages really saved it, for me included, for some reason i gewt the feel that this next arc will be back in the normal epicness of previous arcs. |
| i was reading bleach at the same time and for a second i thought those blank pages are kubo's work again.i guess Yoshihiro got too excited about those 2-3 pages with good arts (compared to previous chapters) and decided that he should do blank pages for the rest... |

No it ain't the hiatuses at all. I started reading HxH when it was already more than halfway through the ant arc and i found it shitty compared to the others even before i reached the waiting point. It just was so different that didn't really fit. This overpowerfull crazy creatures appeared from nowhere in a world that showed no such over-crazyness and from one moment to the other we almost went in DBZ levels. It really seemed out of place compared to the mood the manga had until that point. |

| Wow, I was not expecting Meruem to be so vulnerable during these last two chapters. That was beautiful, and actually made me some sympathy for him. Just goes to show that few things are clearly black or white. Regarding this whole Chimera Ant arc, it was amazing. so many allies and people lost, and the crazy thing is, most of the world will have no idea of what really happened! Can't wait for the next arc. |

| Finally finished the Arc. Man that was long. The ending was pretty good and dramatic with the deaths of Komugi and Meruem. I wonder whether Palm still sees them after they die. Anyways almost fully caught up. Next chapter is meeting with the Zodiacs. I wonder how Gon is doing? |
| Literally just finished the arc, I cried like a little bitch when Meruem and Komugi died. The blank pages didn't piss me off at all, in fact I thought it was kinda beautiful and symbolic since Komugi is blind. I really really liked the arc, probably my favorite in the series (or maybe equal with the hunter exam arc) Also the origins of the Queen will surely come into play at some point in the future I think. Since we never learnt who she came into existence and how she got injured when she first washed up. |
| Re-read this, while this scene isn't particularly sad because I have no heart or something, it's sad that the best manga arc of all time had to end. I'm not sure which one's better though, this or the election one. Both were insanely intense and exciting on whole different levels. |

| What a retarded fucking arc. I can't even believe that it belongs to HxH. It contradicts so many things in HxH mood and style. Asspulls, powerups, unnecessary/pointless plot developments, focus on trivial characters, pseudo psychological bullshit, gay shit. While I loved the final 2 pages, this arc is just one huge ass disappointment. I'm so glad, I just read the manga and didn't continue my wait for the anime. It's so fucking beyond me how can someone say this is better than the Yorknew arc in a non sarcastic way. 4.5/10 for the arc. What a waste of time.. |

| what the fuck why would Meruem let Komugi, a little girl, let herself get poisoned in the last minutes of his death? uncool, if he really loved her. was sad, though. I didnt get why in those black pages of dialogue, though, why the king sounded so childish and almost annoying and then komugi sounded more mature. it was like their roles were switched or an error in fansubbing.. he kept saying "komugi, komugi" komugi: "Yes, yes, what is it?" |

| Aw nooooo! The Mereum x Komugi scene was so cute yet sad, it was very sublime. I for one didn't mind the long dialogue between them as it was 1) the ending to the arc and 2) we won't ever see them again. It was so sad and cute in one! And I can't wait for the Chairman Election arc, the anime is adapting it in a little over a month it will be in the anime on July 8th or 9th forgot which one, I'll read along with it just to see the differences. I'm done reading HxH until the Chairman Election arc starts. I can't wait to see the Chairman Election arc! I love HxH and I loved the Chimera Ant arc for what it was worth. But yeah, beautiful ending and it was bitter sweet to see Netero again! I guess his death wasn't useless because he took down The King and all of the royal guards except for Pitou. Great closing to in my opinion a great arc, I've followed this arc for about a year (a few days short) and I loved it. HxH is my favourite anime of all time and I can't wait to see how the anime adapts the next arc! |

| These last two chapters are probably my favourite chapters ever. Every time I re-read them, I start to cry.. It's just a beautiful end to this whole arc and to these two characters. These last moments with Meruem are what truly make him my favourite character. The black pages with simple dialogue followed by the most beautiful drawing in the manga is just excellent. This would have been a lot less effective without those black pages. And as this is the official end of the Chimera Ant arc, I guess I should try to give my thoughts on the arc as a whole. This is my favourite arc of any manga and I love pretty much all of it. Don't really want to get into too many specifics as I will just repeat myself from the previous chapter discussion threads. The arc really excels both thematically and from the characters. Almost all characters in the arc have some sort of arc and development. There's the big ones like Gon and Meruem, who beautifully mirror each other. Gon loses his humanity as Meruem gains it. It's interesting how close their stories are to each other, considering that they never really meet. But what takes the arc further is the development of all the smaller characters. Ikalgo is overshadowed by a lot of characters this arc but I would argue that his character arc is still superior to some protagonists in other manga in the same genre. Some of the smaller characters have their whole development in the Palace Invasion, like Shoot, Youpi and Welfin. These characters could have easily been dismissed early on, but instead they become some of the highlights. The whole theme of conflicting human and ant natures is really what everything is about. In the end, the human side does win with all of the survivors. But of course, the human nature isn't portrayed in a very positive light. Most of the ants find their humanity but are still exterminated as ants. A great example of this is Netero that keeps to his mission and attacks Meruem no matter how much Meruem tries to reason with him. Overall, it's a very dark and sad story. The "anticlimactic" ending fits perfectly with the tone of the whole arc. Meruem being defeated in battle wouldn't have been nearly as effective. Pitou was the only one of the Royal Guards that was defeated in battle, but even that was more about Gon losing himself rather than the actual fight. And as a final note, the arc consists of some of the best fights ever. The nen abilites have really evolved now and are far more interesting than in the previous arcs. I really like everything with Knuckle and Morel because they have some of my favourite abilities. But I would say the best fight is Youpi vs most of the hunters. Shoot, Knuckle, Meleoron, Morel and Killua all fight him at some point, at it's the really what holds the whole Palace Invasion together. |
