THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE. ---------------------------------------- Uber Matrix fan here, but did anyone feel a Matrix Revolutions vibe from this anime? Ohms = squiddies Messed up world in both films Gold field = gold Matrix vision Neo carried away by squiddies = Nausicaa carried by ohms. Weird! Anyway, classic anime. Joe Hisaishi is to Miyazaki as John Williams is to Star Wars. Modified by Kineta, 09-09-12, 7:19 PM "I'm starting to think mal is run by Xinil generating electricity on a bicycle." - idklol |

I never saw matrix revolutions, but I thought this movie was incredible. I wasn't expecting such a great story or excellent characters when I started watching it. I saw the dub myself, I wonder what the sub is like. |

The sub is actually pretty good, but it is nothing special. Up until the final thirty minuets I was thinking the movie was just so-so, but then after that it just bowled me over. The ending was incredible. I'm back. |

Not bad! An ecologic film with humans destroying the planet. The characters are well cool, I liked Princess Nausicaa, but the history is not so good. |

One of the better Ghibli films imho. Not counting that there wasn't an epilogue, the movie is excellent. |

Perhaps it was because I read the manga first, but I was underwhelmed by the movie. It wasn't bad, but it just wasn't that great, either. |

Watched the movie first (as I imagine alot of people did) then read the manga. Was underwhelmed by the manga. Anything following in Miyazaki's vision's footsteps will automatically be underwhelming I guess, no matter what medium. I think the manga was first because it wouldn't be produced until a manga existed for it. I think one of the reviewers mentioned this. |

Sumi Shimamoto was born to play Nausicaa. Her voice could not have been better for that character. |

The first volume or two were made before the anime because the only way Miyazaki could get financial backing for the anime was if there was a manga to base it off of. The other five or six volumes took years to be completed. It took well over a decade to be finished. Needless to say, which version is Miyazaki's "true" vision is rather debatable. |

Still not quite sure why, but this movie was kind of a miss for me. Only rating it a 7. The biggest thing that brought it down for me was just simply the enjoyment. As a whole, it was rather boring in my opinion. The whole setting was just lame too. The whole thing was just nowhere remotely near as creative as his other works I've seen. I can see Miyazaki has certainly grown since this film... |

I actually think that this movie does have an original story, which also has the great ability to reflect a strong message and to generate some powerful feelings. I simply love the part when the scene with golden fields appears and an innocent kid's voice is humming "la-la-la". That's simply sweet and loveable. All in all, I liked the idea of the movie and I enjoyed it in all its possible meanings. |

Great film. Amazing storyline, animation (for 1984), sound and characters. P.S. I think you mean The Matrix has vibes from this not the other way round as The Matrix is basically just a massive anime rip-off.. |

My first Miyazaki movie, simply amazing. I liked the beginning and the end of the movie specially. The story is actually sad and the concept is not original, but we're talking about the 80's here and it is very well played out and the characters become epic. Also superb animation, the flying scenes are top notch. First I gave it a 10/10 but nerfed it down to a 9/10 simply because, in spite of this movie being the masterpiece it is, I've seen something else that was perfection, and perfection is 10. |

Fantastic movie made even more fantastic with Joe Hisaishi's music. Out of all the Miyazaki movies, this one felt the most epic to me. |

Great movie, it had action, drama, all around good characters. Towards the end it did kind of drag on bad it bounced back. Definitely not where I thought the movie was going to go when I first started watching it. Modified by silentknight0083, 11-25-09, 5:53 PM |

Simply loved this movie. I loved the animation, characters, story, sound, everything. I'd say 3rd or 4th movie in my rankings so far. And yeah, somehow i started thinking matrix at one point, except that this was hundred times better. ![]() |

The film was excellent, one of Miyazaki's better ones, in my opinion. It seemed to stretch out slightly towards the middle, but the climax of the film over-shadowed that entirely. Nausicaa being trampled was not what I expected, and that scene was touching. Animation-wise, the quality was great, and certainly far better than many other anime that followed it. The God Warriors seemed Evangelion-like; I believe Anno actually worked on it, and his animation style really shows through. It's like it's an Angel-precursor. |

It was a really good movie. I liked the story( except the middle: it was to confusing). However parts of the soundtrack seemed a little old, even for this movie. But it is quite obvious that this movie was an inspiration for many anime series :) . While I was looking at it I always thought "Where have I seen this before?" |
