It actually starts to get better after the first 20 episodes. Big shounen series always start a little slow.

Anyway for me last disappointment was Blood-C. I expected better from the Blood franchise but falling into Clamps hands was a disaster.

School days.

The lack of character development in that show was almost scary.

I'm starting to lose interest in A Dark Rabbit Has Seven Lives (forgot the japanese title but this is easier for me to remember). I like this series but too fan service-y.
Also, Blood-C, Ro-Kyu-Bu (not a huge fan of sports anime), and R-15.

Toradora. watched it because of its popularity as a romance anime to find a pile of cliches and characters with really fake personalities.

Air. It wasn't a severe disappointment; I just thought it would be better. It was still a great watch but I just expected too much.

I really thought Dantalian no Shoka would end up being the best of the season. IT WASN'T.

Also, I'm watching the first season of Working!, and even if you ignore Inami, it isn't as good as people have been saying.

IDOLM@STER is getting boring. Hanasaku Iroha as well.

Nichijou turned out to be more pervy than I had thought.

AnoHana - It wasn't a bad show but it was very disappointing - talk about wasted potential. That final episode with all the crying and melodrama was terrible.

Ao no Exorcist - This is a prime example why you should wait for the manga to finish or at least have enough source material. Then, the manga itself isn't that good either.

Blood-C - Really bland, one-dimensional characters, boring repetitive first episodes.

Oh, another thread where I can talk about it :D.

Aria the animation

It's a show I had built a lot of expectancies on from the board, basically I thought it was going to move right to my top5, but it wasn't half as good as I predicted.

As it was sold as a paradise of peace and happiness and the anime where nothing happens I expected it to focus on the calmed mood of Neo-Venezia and it sure did... too much. What in essence was a good resource didn't work that well because, for every nice and visually stunning look at the city, there was a discourse of Akari telling you exactly what you were supposed to feel. She, specially, is a character I had to make strong efforts to end up liking in the last episodes. The facts she finds the nice side to everything is sort of funny, but when to express those positive reactions the discourse becomes so overdone, cheesy, "power of heart" type, I find myself just out of the mood. The rest of the characters are more or less interesting but I also found the interactions quite poor... you can't expect to make characters out of one joke, and you can't expect to make these characters likeable just by repeating the same joke again and again without any contextual variation. In the end, every one of them becomes likeable, but I think it's more because of the passing of time and episodes than a merit of the writing.

Anyway, I liked it. At its best moments, it was something quite fascinating, filled with powerful and purifying joy. But I expected a lot more. I had an idea that this series would overwhelm me with its optimism and poetry, and found it too flawed and lacking that evocative ability necessary to turn the good intentions into actual results.

Will watch the second and third season (people say they are better, specially the third), but so far my interest on the franchise has decreased a lot.

Please do; each season focuses on different aspects of Neo-Venezia and the characters and has something for everyone. Alternatively, you might want to look into the considerably more subtle manga.

^ I will, but not soon. They are still on my plan to watch, probably in some months will try them.

And well, I didn't put spoiler tags in my text, but it's because I didn't find anything in the post to be spoilerific. If someone notices any revealing detail tell me, might have put them accidentally.

When I heard they were going to make a sequel (sorry... prequel I guess) to Fate/Stay Night. Not only is it a long time since the original was even released... but I was starting to think maybe the Anime Industry is smart enough to not rework EVERY single boring generic shounen that gets popular. Sigh...
