It’s that time of the year again. What are people planning on watching? Chart here. Decent previews here. I will make the most effort to watch: - Persona 4 - Fate/zero - Shana III plus the fabulous continuation of Mawaru Penguindrum (which I think you should random this term :P) ![]() Modified by TheRumblingWolf, 10-02-11, 4:04 AM |

Definitely watching: - Kimi to Boku -- basically one of my favourite manga series ever. not sure i can recommend it to anyone at animesoc, though... Will try: - Chihayafuru - Guilty Crown - UN-GO - Persona 4 - Last Exile: Ginyoku no Fam - Lupin III, if it really is a new TV series... I thought it was a movie, though? Mawaru Penguindrum is awesome. :D forget randoming it, you should consider giving it a place in some distant future lineup... |

Nothing I really, really have to watch =) Tell me if there's anything you think I should watch (and that I'd like) I guess it'll take me some time to catch up with and finish the series from this season anyway (haven't watched anything for two weeks now and will start watching again in October). (I still can't believe I'm gonna miss the last episode of S;G next week. Argh!) |

2nd seasons of Working!! and Ika Musume, obviously... Otherwise, there's not a huge amount that interests me this season: Last Exile: Ginyoku no Fam seems likely, and I might give Phi Brain a try. Might also check out Guilty Crown and UN-GO, and maybe C³ and Ben-To. On the plus side, there look like being quite a few OVAs and OADs, and here's hoping that the ever awesome Fairy Tail will be continued into the new season (almost up to 100 episodes, and there's a really good arc coming up...)! Edit: Yay, Fairy Tail is apparently confirmed for a third year! We really ought to show the 1st episode sometime, just as a random... Quick first impressions (am putting off writing my essay for as long as is physically possible): Fate/zero’s exceeding all expectations, but then the Fate/stay night anime set the bar very low. Am really enjoying Persona 4; loved the game and am loving the anime. Noitamina’s rather disappointing, although this doesn’t particularly surprise me since Noitamina is Japanese for “Almost Certain Disappointment.” Guilty Crown was trying way too hard to be awesome and Un-Go confirms the fact that anime cannot present a good detective/mystery story. And what was up with its art style? It looks like Bones has been infected by the CLAMPiosclerosis virus. And everything else is somewhere in the middle. They all have some potential, but haven’t really done anything with it. *Looks at Shana III and Mirai Nikki* Oh – Penguindrum is still fabulously awesome :D |

I might watch Chihayafuru eventually on the basis that the picture looks like Hikaru no Go, but with paper instead of go stones. |

Is it just me, or is Guilty Crown the biggest disappointment since Eden of the East? |

How high were your expectations for it? Because it's not turned out that badly. |

I think the fundamental mistake I made was hoping for some originality. |

Final thoughts: Completed 9: Mawaru Penguindrum Watch it now dammit 7: Fate/zero I Infinitely better than the original series, but there’s nothing particularly awesome about it. Ongoing 8: Persona 4 KING FROST! 6: Shakugan no Shana III It’s only good during the fight scenes, everything else sucks ass. It’s interesting that Yuuji actually does something this season, whilst Shana becomes the ineffective, angsty character. 6: Mirai Nikki Interesting concept along with bad, BAD fanservice. “I’m a psychopath who’s been stalking you for the past year even though you’re a complete and utter tit.” “Wanna make out?” GOOD END 4: Digimon Xros Wars This season seems to be turning into just another long running shounen show with no plot whatsoever. 3: Higurashi Kira III lol Dropped because they’re not interesting 6: Chihayafuru 5: Last Exile: Fam Fam Fam Fam Dropped because they’re shite 4: Guilty Crown 3: Un-Go ffs Noitamina. |

My thoughts: The 2nd seasons of Working!! and Ika Musume were good enough, but obviously lacked the winning originality of their first seasons. I still gave them both an 8 though. Nurarihyon no Mago: Sennen Makyou - meh: wasn't any better than the 1st season, but was relatively ok - 7. Last Exile: Ginyoku no Fam and Phi Brain: Kami no Puzzle are going on into next season, so no scores yet. Edit - apparently Guilty Crown will also be going on for another season - I rather wish it wouldn't... Having got this far in, I'm not going to drop it now, but it'll have to get better if it's going to score anything above 'average'. UN-GO wasn't too bad, but it seemed to think it was better than it was (does that make sense?) - 6. Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai had some very funny moments, but beyond that not much else worth elevating it above a 7. C³ was pretty rubbish - only just managed to hold my interest enough to stop me dropping it - 5. Ben-To gets an 8 (or maybe a 7.5), because of its sheer 'hilarity'-inducing ludicrousness, and brilliant constuction of a weird sub-culture which it actually comes to believe in. The show continually seems to alternate between pure comedy and truly taking itself seriously which, given the plot, is itself a comedic move. 'Twas a lot of fun to watch... P.s. - Fairy Tail continues its awesomeness - although I might enjoy this arc more if I hadn't only recently read it in the manga, so know exactly what will happen; kind of wish I hadn't done that now... Ika Musume II was really disappointing (I seem to have omitted that from one my list). It's tragic that they used up all their jokes during the first season. Has Guilty Crown got any better? |

No, not really - Guilty Crown remains a perfect example of how a mildy interesting story (provided one overlooks certain glaringly obvious plot holes) can be ruined by having a whiny little man-bitch as the protaganist (paging Natsume-san?)...
