Actually, Princess Mononoke is vastly overrated. I hear many people say it's the best Miyazaki movie but it is only the second best. |

I can understand when people argue that Spirited Away is better though, so it's all good. Personally Castle in the Sky is my second favourite, which I don't think I've ever seen someone argue is the best. On a serious note, I do think that the fantasy movies Ghibli produced are overrated (except Nausicaa) compared to the slice of life/romance productions like Whisper of the Heart, Only Yesterday and more recently From Up On Poppy Hill. This is just a personal bias, but I really don't see more appeal in Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away than in any other fantasy anime I've watched, be it movie or TV series. |

I can see how they can appeal to people though. To be fair I think it's the whole wide-reaching accessibility of the Ghibli films is probably why they're easily ranked so high. That said, Nausicaa is more sci-fi. ;) |

I'll put another overrated one for Ef as well. But it's not the content itself so much as it is Akiyuki Shinbo once again letting his artistic idiosyncrasy get in the way. The first season alone had a lot of scenes that could have been really effective Precision Wham Moments were it not for Shinbo knowing when to stop with his creativity. |
