As seen in the trailers, the style of animation was different, animation quality was ok, and it got better in the battle at the final, it got all the effects. The movie was good overall, the argument was entretaining and it was good to see Ed and Al in another journey.

Finally watched it after months of waiting since the release. My thoughts are pretty mixed up but I'm glad I get to see FMA again. The animation wasn't that bad as I had expected. I give this a 9/10.

Agreed that it was good. It needs more showing of old characters.

If there was a movie sequel to Brotherhood, I would be happy to watch it though.

the character designs were redone to fit the new style. actually, the character designer & animation director of this movie is also the character designed and animation director for Tokyo Godfathers - the guy knew what he was doing.

I'd give it a 7/10.
Actually didn't like the character animation, seemed a bit too wierd for FMA in the end but who cares.
It was entertaining, but not more than that.

PS:
did anyone think of star wars anyhow? it felt like everyone was shooting their lightining blasts around, i really laughed hard when i saw them do this xD

A want a sequel! I give it an 8/10.

I was actually going to complain about the lack of consistency with the animation, it was all over the place, but the story was good so I can over look that.

I would've liked for Julia and Al to meet, if they ever make a spin-off with Al as the main character after the ending of Brotherhood.

I love FMA but this movie was predictable, the animation was kind of weird and Mustang didn't have enough time on screen uwu but anyway It was entertaining at least :3

Nice movie, better than I expected because of the low rating given here. 7,5/10 for me because of the lack of Mustang's epicness and the animation (one of the few x,5 that I'll round up because it's closer to an 8 than to a 7 imo)

I was quite excited to see this movie, but after watching it, I am sorely disappointed. The entire movie just seemed too contrived to me, maybe because its length meant that the story within the movie needed to be condensed. Right from the get-go, I thought that everything moved a bit too quickly and conveniently for my tastes.

I also thought the whole business about “taking back the Holy land of Milos with the Philosopher’s stone, which will give us the power of the miasma/magma or whatever” totally ludicrous. First of all, they didn’t seem to have any plan for what they would do if they obtained the stone. Even at the end of the story, the success of the battle was largely due to chance and nothing they did was really thought through. Were they just going to barge into enemy base, protecting the one person who actually had the Philosopher’s stone, who would then proceed to blast away all the State Alchemists and thereby take back Milos? And also, what about the residents of the city that they reconquered? I’m sure some of them would protest against being taken over – how would these particular residents have been dealt with? This was never answered in the movie either.
Secondly, I did not understand the ‘power of the miasma’ bit at all. All I could think was: WTF?

The moral preaching of the movie also got on my nerves, which is probably because the characters’ morals didn’t have enough buildup and support unlike the FMA series. The characters just very bluntly told the audience their morals rather than show where these morals came from, which did not make them very convincing. Even at the end there was a scene where Al and the girl discussed how she had ‘learned’ that ‘obtaining power did not automatically lead to the fulfillment of her wishes’. This was not very convincing for me because while one of her good friends died, she managed to take back her nation’s independence, and save her brother with the Philosopher’s stone.

Okay, so I’ve been complaining up until now. As for the good part of the series…I do commend the thoughtfulness behind the plot, I liked that 3D array idea with the blood pouring into the pipes, and the underground city. The concept was very well thought out, and stuck true to its FMA roots, considering the author was not involved. I could easily see this occurring in the manga. I did have a problem with its execution, but I already ranted on long enough about that.

The only downside was the lack of FMA characters. They could have at least expanded Mustang's screentime a bit. He didn't get to do anything.

horrible movie.
i remember how excited i was last year when it came out in july

i would have literally moved to japan just to see this in theaters
thats how excited i was

i guess i should have known it would be crap

seriously. im embarassed that i even watched it
they should have just made an original movie instead of pretending like it had anything to do with FMA

everyone was acting out of character, boring story, lame villain, lackluster fight scenes (they could have atleast had good fight scenes!)
and no emotional connections whatsoever.
julia was a decent character but come on. i dont care about julia i care about ed and al! they were practically supporting characters

and compared to Brotherhood the animation was just underwhelming

Wow, the plot twists were awful:

[SPOILERS AHEAD]

Julia, I am your brotNO JULIA, I AM YOUR REAL BROTHER! (WTF)
Also, when Ashleigh gets killed he ALSO spits a philosopher stone (WTF x 9000)
What really killed it was the cheesy dialogue between Julia and Al at the end. (How disrespectful to May Chang! ಠ_ಠ)

[/SPOILERS]

Again, what "saves" the movie is good action scenes (as usual) and...I guess that's it. And then I thought Conqueror of Shamballa was bad.

I actually thought it was much better than Shambala, just not on par with Brotherhood. I just hated how Ed and Al were the only characters from the series that had some contribution to the movie, the others were just there for the sake of being there. Winry and Mustang were completely useless and probably just put in the movie for all the fanboys/girls out there. Even if they were removed from the movie, nothing would really change...

The only good FMA movie would probably be about what they do after Brotherhood.

I thought this movie was okay, but since the series already ended this doesn't really add anything. It's just a side story. I thought it started going down hill when a lot of the action got reduced to energy blasts.

I felt like half the cast was forced.

Like, Roy Mustang didn’t do ANYTHING (wish he would of gotten more screen time –cries-)
Riza Hawkeye was just there cuz Mustang was there
Winry was put into the mix just because Edward busted up his arm a little (which honestly DIDN’T need to happen JUST to give Winry her 30 seconds of screen time)
General Armstrong just came out of NOWHERE to say his two lines

I wish all those characters had more of a plot importance and actually did something….

Julia seemed bipolar to me, personally. First she’s all badass, getting captured and rescued and shooting down chimeras…and the next minute she’s all teary eyed and looking all vulnerable. Her whole character structure ticked me off as a whole =_=

I wish there was at least ONE Ed is short joke in this movie…

I agree with everyone here who said that there were WAAAAAAY too many “twists” in this movie.
-Hey Julia, I’m your brother…HAHA JK I’m actually the enemy!!!!!
I was actually expecting the REAL brother to be like:
–HAHA I’m kidding too, I’m not actually your brother either!!!!

I was really confused at the time this movie took play in the story…
Since this movie had to deal with a FORCED Philosopher’s Stone, why didn’t they put any of the homunculus in the mix? The whole movie is already over-kill, why not?

The first FMA movie made more sense to me…=_=

At the final battle, when Julia and her brother were shooting those lightning blasts at each other, all I could think about was “What is this Harry Potter nonsense?”

NO ROY MUSTANG ACTION WHATSOEVER! For that, this movie gets an 8! Haha, no but really, it was really entertaining. I didn't expect Ashley to be the other bad guy in the mask. There was lots of reconstructive surgery going around in this film! I'm glad he was able to get his face back despite being such a douche. Would've been nice to see Al and Julia hook up but whatever. Really cool movie overall.

Finally managed some time to watch it. To be honest, I find this entertaining. I didn't expect a good show, since movies based on shonens, well, usually aren't on their levels. Ofc "Milos..." isn't a worthy opponent of TV series, but isn't as bad as MAL score says either. As said before, I didn't like forcing some characters to appear (Mustang...) and at some points art was just... bad.

I was really confused at the train scene - there was Elric brothers, Atlas (disguised as Ashley), Julia, wolf chimera, Amestris soldiers from train, Black Bats and some men who shot batmen in train. Who? What? With Whom? Why?

Wow, what a boring forgettable movie and i never thought i'd say that about a Fullmetal Alchemist anime!

PROS:

The voice acting was pitch perfect - As always.

Good animation in places.

Decent action scenes.

That's about it.

CONS:

The story and plot twists were bland as hell - Philosopher's Stone, again? Really?

New characters overshadowing everyone else - Something is very wrong when Ed and Al feel like bit-players in their own movie! I don't care about these new characters because A) we've never heard of or seen them before and B) because we're never gonna see them again! Plus they're bland as hell too, so why bother?

New animation style - Pardon me if i'm wrong but the animation in this was very different from what we're used to and extremely different underwhelming, compared to the orgasmic awesomeness that is the Brotherhood series! Why are the character designs so weird and odd looking? What went wrong?

Too much action - It seems that they favored action over story and character development. FMA was always an action series but it had an epic story and great characters to go with it, but with Milos it's like the latter doesn't even matter!

Fan favorites wasted - Mustang, Hawkeye, Winry and Armstrong all could've been exorcised from the movie and it wouldn't make a difference. THEY HAD NOTHING TO DO! Why would they include all these lovable characters and just have them stand around in the background for a couple minutes?

---

What a shameful adaptation... "Conqueror of Shamballa" (which i really enjoy, but a lot of peole seem to hate) is a freaking masterpiece compared to this turd! That one at least wasn't just a 2 hour filler episode, it had an actual point as a fine epilogue to the original anime.

What do we get with The Sacred Star of Milos? What does it add to the Brotherhood universe? NOTHING

I hope we'll get a much better FMA theatrical movie down the line to make up for this waste of 2 hours. This series is too good to be capped off with a lousy movie like this...

The art was different (many characters were drawn by kids?), pace of action differed as well. I did not find anything interesting or it wasn't used in main series-healing circles lol like from Xing. It's like showing brother of Vegeta and that's it.
Kinda lame that Julia brother, even after dissapearance of red stone decided to left-his sidestory lacked of potencial. It's like watching forced Naruto movies. The author simply put sth she known arleady which made anime blur and boring, following the same motive we know from the main series.
Julia did not appear at the end of FMA:B and the end of the 64episodes were meh-instead of creating proper movie like 1st FMA did or OVA, they put filler movie yeah...
At first I didn't mind a filler movie but now after finishing it I can agree with some ppl that FMAB:M was milky cow and that's it.

I was not keen on the way everyone was drawn Ed in particular looked waaay off. But the actual animation and the fights were very well done. There were some neat story ideas like the 3D circle but the plot was a bit boring and unnecessarily contrived with all this focus on the filler factions and filler characters made it difficult for me to care about the story. And flying in the FMAverse ehhh.

Also Julia swallows a stone and becomes "possesed". But Kimbley swallowed and regurgitated a stone several times in the series and he was fine.

the movie was great due to the action scenes and effects like the fire and magma.

even the blood here is much better than the series.

but there were some nitpicks i would say in the movie.

first off, too many characters that appeared in brief moments and never again appeared like Armstrong and others.

so this film takes place in the middle of the anime since Ed and Roy still haven't had a good relationship.

Winry was somewhat force, wtf???

seriously just cut her off if your just gonna half ass her appearance.

she appeared out of nowhere just because Ed's arm was broken, then suddenly comes along with Roy and Riza.

now that you mentioned it Winry isn't supposed to be that close to Mustang.

Riza was basically there just because Roy was there.

the animation can be weird, especially when Ed was attacked by the mask man his face went what?!?!

The Melvin twist was wtf as well.

"i am your brother" "oh wait im not, i just took his face and skin and build it on my body"

Herschel appears*

"Oh im your TRUE brother!!!!" "now that you found me, i now want the truth to cleanse this world and find the truth"

O______O

isn't also funny how Julia and Melvin's voice is Maaya Sakamoto and Toshiyuki Morikawa.

voice of Aerith and Sephiroth

it's good to see Aerith fighting Sephiroth here!!!!

im also surprised to hear that Herschel VA is Kiuchi, Hidenobu, fucking Hei from Darker Than Black!!!!!

at first im familiar with the voice, but after i read it was him and replay the scenes with him, it's definitely him!

he always plays characters with masks XD

the plot was a messed as well.

i mean Philosophers stone again on a ancient land?

didn't the Philiosopher's stone started when the people of XerXes got sacrificed?

how the hell did it end up in milos all of a sudden?

how come Milos and cleta suddenly appears out of nowhere?

they should have expanded this territory in the anime.

at least Julia was cool when she wields a gun and she went berserk when she consumed the stone.

the weird thing also happens near the end.

so Julia revives Ashley, but it was not a human transmutation but just a revival of slimmer life?

then why the hell did they show the gate in the first place??

and how the hell did it heal his face O______O

the fun part was when Julia lost her limb and Ashley her arm, it was parallel to Ed's lost of arm and limb.

so Ashley will leave her again instead of staying with her? wtf?!?!?!

and Julia potential lover to Al :D

and why the hell did Al say she's gotten prettier XD

May Chang hmm XD

so Milos occupying Cleta will wage another war with Amestris?

at least i didn't have any mixed emotions compared to Conqueror of Shamballa.

the ending in that movie is just fucking wow.

you'll have more mixed reactions compared to this.

the ending music however is better in Conqueror of Shamballa "Lost Heaven" by L'Arc~en~Ciel is amazing, but "GOOD LUCK MY WAY" by L'Arc~en~Ciel is not bad either :P

just prefer Lost Heaven :D

overall the movie was great, despite the shortcomings i enjoyed it.

i think they played it safe here, but made a lot of mistakes by making the plot too vague as well not enough screen time with other characters.

though i do think this movie focuses more on Julia and Ashley moreso than Ed and Al(which is fine)

i give it a 9/10 just because we had an awesome fight scenes and voice actors like Maaya Sakomoto, Toshiyuki Morikawa, and Hidenobu Kiuchi(Hei my favorite!!!!!)

and finally i've watched the Original series, Conqueror of Shamballa, Brotherhood, Brotherhood Skits and OVA and now this.

i guess this is the end of Fullmetal Alchemist T__T

Just watched it. My friend got me the Bluray/DVD package so I saw it with subs. The art & animation combo were alright to me, I certainly prefer Brotherhood.

I was trying to understand what exactly was going on (a lot was happening very quickly, characters popping in and out). I was fairly distracted by that, and realized I missed some tiny scenes here and there when I rewatched it w/o audio via the director commentary.

I agree with most people that have already commented in the thread - too much Julia and her brother/fake brother, needed more Ed/Al. It actually reminded me of some of the Pokemon movies, expect in this Milos movie, it was very rushed. I kind of want to go back and rewatch it again sometime but I feel that it's not worth it.

I also agree with PrinceHeir, there was a little too much action going on, I wanted more story/background on Milos and an explanation of why exactly they wanted their land back using the philosopher's stone even though they were apparently against alchemy..

I really liked the OP & ED, though.

Giving this a 7/10.
