For more than a year now, the official facebook app for mal has been spitting out the following error: exception 'FacebookRestClientException' with message 'Unknown method' in /app/local/docroot/myanimelist.net/facebook/php/facebookapi_php5_restlib.php:2878 Stack trace: #0 /app/local/docroot/myanimelist.net/facebook/php/facebookapi_php5_restlib.php(1964): FacebookRestClient->call_method('facebook.data.g...', Array) #1 /app/local/docroot/myanimelist.net/facebook/index.php(99): FacebookRestClient->data_getUserPreference(2) #2 {main} I'm making this topic in response to the many pages of complaints on the announcement thread here: http://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=54779&show=180 Modified by saka, 07-07-11, 7:31 AM |

Looking at the other thread, it seems that this is because Facebook dropped support for some stuff. Will anyone be working on an alternative version? |

It would be possible to make a stand-in based on the rss feeds in profiles, but it would not be official and cannot be promoted as such without breaking the terms of use. I recommend just doing without it for now -- there's surely a reason it hasn't been fixed yet and it's likely not as simple as just updating the facebook client libraries. I suspect that concerns about server load is the major delay, but it should eventually return. |

How about a way to update on FB from the Android app. The MALO app has been getting good updates and it seems easier to fix (if broken) then the FB app. Why not tell the powers that be to allow us to share our updates (or auto-update with any new activity) over the MALO app. I think it's a good idea. Using the RSS feed feature of the list instead. I'm still a newbie programmer though. So I'll make my idea clear. http://myanimelist.net/rss.php?type=rw&u=Cashdaxxx (RRS) ----> TRANSLATION TO APP (JAVA) ----> FACEBOOK.., how's that? (-. -) Haruka, y u no bring scissors?!?! (LB!) |

I know the devs know about it but I haven't heard any news regarding it specifically. They are working mostly on efficiency fixes for now to get mal running as fast as possible before adding disabled features back in. |

I'm a little disappointed to see the app has a problem. It is not that the app doesn't work, as my app still changes my status whenever I update my anime list, but that is because my app was set up before the whole error code. Now I cannot turn mine off without removing the app, and all of my friends who are joining cannot have theirs post to facebook. I complained once about how I didn't like it changing my status, but now I'd like to just see it fixed to work for everyone else. |

There are ways to display RSS feeds on your Facebook page, which means you can use the updates from the links on your profiles. It's not exactly the same, but that's the only workaround until the devs can actually make time to fix it. |

I'm not sure which ones are better-featured, but the polular rss apps are here: http://www.facebook.com/search/results.php?q=RSS Feed Graffiti seems to write the feed to your wall which could be annoying. Social RSS gives a few more options. As always, test and make sure it's doing what you intended. Set them up with one of the feeds from the bottom left corner of your profile. For example, these are your anime episode and manga chapter feeds, respectively: http://myanimelist.net/rss.php?type=rwe&u=mayaloud http://myanimelist.net/rss.php?type=rrm&u=mayaloud |

Grr. I temporarily revoked publishing access for the app since I was adding a bunch of things and didn't want them to clutter up my wall (and it was a pain deleting each one) and now I can't give the publishing access back because the app is broken. -____- Will this EVER be fixed???? I didn't even know it was broken since it was working for me. I guess it only works for people who added the app before it broke. |

I used the search function to try and find out what's going on with the app, but the latest responses are from 5+ months ago. The app seems to be broken and left for dead. Is that right? |

Threads merged. Tunacat said: Any plans for it in the future? At the moment the priority is to fix site bugs, no external applications, so I don't see this being fixed anytime soon. Maybe you can test what was suggested in post #15 as a workaround. |
