A completely satisfying ending. I really like the direction it took. The development was quite good.

Overall, this show easily gets a 10 from me.

It got a 10 from me but I didn't think it was satisfying at all. I sort of thought Shinkurou might have taken Murasaki from that family, but it I guess in the end she's still a kid and he's still a kid, and it wouldn't work out for him to start caring for a child whose family has reformed and who wants her back.

It was a passable enough ending, but it didn't do the thing for me as much as I thought it would. I didn't like all the series elements of the show as much as the slice of life elements. 8/10 for the series from me.

They developed the two main characters so well, but the rest was there to fill some holes, because all the drama had to start somewhere.

At the end, his teacher was stabbed and fell to the ground to stand up 5segs later, hold her pupil and stay up -without even blinking a single time- meanwhile he said some heroish stuff.

Also, that other chick was unconscious and spilling blood, but a short while after she got her revenge -and her wounds were all better.

Miraculously her father saw the light and let her speak her mind, even though he will still oppose her -she's seven, there are no official records of her existence, everyone with power in that house wants her to keep her mouth shut and give birth to incestuous kids... There's so much hope for a bright future.

If it had been me, they would have died before leaving the building, and then I'd smack some "sense" into that egoistic brat -COME ON! If the main characters were well developed, why not him?

It was just too happy, even without they actually holding hands while the sun sets. F#ck, it was going well until everyone else became a puppet. Mediocre is the perfect word for this type of ending.

I guess that mercenary woman became friends with the kid's mother while she was teaching the older kid how to be a man -ironic.

Btw, guns did exist because the almost-mercenary woman was holding one and the lead character was shot in a previous episode, so, why nobody in that mansion carried one?

I wasn't satisfied by the last episode, hell the last half, of the series at all. I like the ideas and the themes, but I think it could have been done better. I'm not sure if it was the novel or the adaptation but I think all the characters besides the two leads were extremely one dimensional and the execution of the overall story did nothing to help cover up this flaw or make it forgivable.

I give it a 6/10, I just can't can't help but think this series could have been better. The final scene was great though.

Did anyone else smell some hardcore Buddhist criticism in this? Renjou tried to equate the Inner Sanctuary to a type of Nirvana that will allow one to be free of the desires of the outside world, only for the protagonists to decry it as a sort of living hell.

I found that kind of interesting...

I dislike the last 3 episode... as well as the ending. It just doesn't make sense.

First, the security... It's sooo loose, I tried to forgive it, but it's just so bad... and Kuhouin suppose to be dangerous... The most logical end is that either they fail badly, or they somehow manage to get Murasaki out IMO...

Was going to give it 5/10 because of the final 3 episode is just that bad... Boost it up to 6/10 thanks to some of the great dialog they had prior to the "Kidnap" of Murasaki... For a family as powerful as Kuhouin, they shouldn't survive...

again, I did not like how it ended.

I'm pretty disappointed in the ending to this series. The beginning was amazing - great characters, great pacing, a real sense of Something looming. I couldn't get enough. Best anime of the season, I thought.

But after the Big Reveal, this show went right downhill. The good dialogue and characterization just stopped. Nobody seemed concerned about what was going on in the Inner Sanctuary, just that Murasaki wouldn't be having fun. People were injured badly and then suddenly magically healed. The Kuhouin fighters "who would certainly kill everyone" were bested in about two seconds. Worst of all, it fell into that horrible anime pitfall of spewing out crap and trying to pass it off as deep and meaningful.

"I'm seven years old and I'm going to change my crazy family from the inside!"
"I'm an old man who's been trapping women in my estate for years because that's what tradition dictated, but now that someone has mentioned the name of a woman I once kind of loved (a woman I was probably related to, who was fulfilling her familial role by being forced to have sex with me) I've decided to completely change my outlook on everything!"
"I'm a high school kid who doesn't know crap about crap, but as long as I think Murasaki will have fun, I'm OK with whatever!"

Give me a frigging break.

6/10 overall.

Basically this.

Also:
"For the rest of the ending, maybe I was just expecting a "MxS happily ever after ending", but this just left me unsatisfied. The father's change of heart just didn't seem plausable, and as far as I can see Murasaki's brother is still waiting to drag her off to bed whether she is willing or not. And what about that old man? He's still unrepentant, right? I sure as hell wouldn't have left a little girl with those twisted peverts, no mater what the father said."

I was loving this anime. Ending threw me into a silent rage. There is no guarantee that any good will come from this bullshit agreement. She needed to leave that place and never go back.

You just KNOW in six years (if he even waits that long) her brother is gonna put his rape shoes on and carry out the family duty.

Real disappointed with the end. First half of series 10/10, second half 5/10.

I guess I agree with people who say that something was missing, but it was pretty good overall. I liked ending and that scene with Benika saying something about parking was hilarious.

I'm kinda mad we didn't get to see why was Lin after Benika and Yayoi so much.

Huh it's because she liked fighting and seeked strong opponents?

It feels like they forgot Murasaki is 7 years old... But whatever I still enjoyed. I'm not really fan of such open endings but in this case it was alright. 12 episodes was short so the characther development seemed a bit eeky, but oh wells.

I just don't get why all of the characters in the series loved to fight with their bare hands. For a powerful family like the Kuhouin, shouldn't those guards have weapons like guns or even tasers? Instead, they all just fought in street fight or martial art style. I like the fight scenes but even my apartment's security guards are equipped with, at least, a baton.

Other than that, a very enjoyable series with great characters and a good ending.

So in most fights Shinkurou is pretty pathetic.Even now, when fighting the Kouhoin's subordinates he didn't do very well and then...SUDDENLY owns them with the Houzuki-ryuu style.Does that mean he mostly used what he had learned from Benika's inferior fighting style?! Isn't that not giving it your all? He's such a disgusting fellow.

Anyway,I am disappointed in this show.It was quite good till the very end of the Shichi-Go-San celebration episode and then went on downhill.Hardly a 7/10.

I don't know why, but I felt like something was missing, too. I liked it, certainly, but... yeah. I guess there was something I was expecting. Just no clue what that is, haha.

It'd be nice to have a sequel where we can see Murasaki changing the ways of her messed up family, but I'm quite content without one, too. This ending did tie up most (if not all?) loose ends, so yeah, it was good. Very, very good series, too.

Ahh this left so many unanswered questions. The "main" problem (Murasaki's issues with her family) was indeed solved in a rather good way, but so many other things that where really just left out in the open.

Enjoyable watch 8/10... we can only hope for a sequel.

Annoying. He should have pulled the blade out right from the beginning so Murasaki never got taken in the first place. Or even better, he shouldn't have been a retard and gone back to samidare that time.

Yayoi should have used those spinkicks from the start too. Why the hell didn't she use them in her fight with Lin in ep11? More stupidity.

These are just a few of the many frustrating parts in this anime. Such a shame, I really enjoyed the first 8 episodes.

The ending killed it for me. It sucks because the beginning was so good and seemed promising. The more I think about it, the more I dislike it.

Did anyone who wrote this ever meet a seven year old? Ever?

Or how this completely murderous family who have been enslaving women forever and apparently are -really- passionate about it is just going to stop now... for no reason? No question about whether its completely to pacify you, we'll just trust them!

The action was silly. So, so silly. I like how everyone was on death's door only to be fine moments later.

Let down.

The last stretch of the series weighs Kurenai down like an anchor. At the beginning I thought the scrawny lead, voiced by a woman, would be terrible as a bodyguard, and I was eventually proved right. At the start he was all, 'I can take blows to the head without blinking and bring a blade out of my elbow to deflect bullets'... but once that Lin chick appeared, he was useless in fights to the point of getting his arse kicked 24/7. And, inexplicably, he refused to use his elbow-blade when Murasaki was taken--instead opting to tell her not to leave as he stayed on the ground, getting kicked. So incompetent was he that needed Yayoi to do his job for him, throughout the show. Even his decisions were retarded--such as going back to say goodbye, knowing full well the danger.

WORST.BODYGUARD.EVER.

And the rescue mission? UGH! Instead of just Mr. Useless getting his arse kicked, ALL THREE OF THEM got their arses handed to them, ran away... and then came back to win with ease. Made perfect sense, did that. "HAHAHA, I SAW THAT WEAK-ARSE MALE LEAD USE THIS TECHNIQUE FOR 30 SECS, AND THAT MEANS YOU'LL GO DOWN IN ONE HIT!"...yeeeah. Truly pathetic. Even the animation was sucky--WHAT WAS WITH THE LEAD'S EYES WHEN HE *FINALLY* PULLED OUT HIS BLADE!?

...hell, what was with that blade? If you're going to have metal pop-out of your skin, at least be like Wolverine. What's the point of one blade coming out of an elbow; doing more harm than good to the owner's body due to the size of it? Most stupid power-up I can remember seeing.

This is how a loli-rescue mission should go down (note the heroic ownage of the baddies, without the aid of women):

I could've forgiven the lead for being such a plain weakling, had he gone all crazy with his elbow-blade, post-emoing, to save his beloved loli... BUT NO!

The ending soured the experience even further. After all that effort to rescue her, they decide to leave her... even though she doesn't officially exist, is a 7yo child, is in a family where females are treated like animals there only to breed AND an incestus psychopath is soon to takeover the family from his weak-willed father?... UTTERLY RETARDED! Might as well have just left her as a prisoner in the first place.

All this negativity is a shame because I was going to 9/10 it, based on the slice-of-life 'timid lead gets bullied by distinctive, sassy ladies, without it coming across haremish' section which made up the vast majority of the show. As my previous posts highlight, eps 6&7 were FANTASTIC. It had sharp dialogue and heartfelt interactions. BUT THEN IT WENT AND FUCKED UP!

7/10, out of affection for the funny/touching parts.

The last few episodes ruined Kure-nai for me.

This show could have easily got a solid 9/10 from me, but it completely stuffs up in the end with bad animation, corny situations, unrealistic events and just shoddy action. The ending wasn't the best either, darn it.

Due to the last few episodes, the score has been lowered to a 8/10, although the only thing that is preventing me from giving it a 7 is the amazing dialogue we have seen throughout the series.

What a disappointment. I was really enjoying the series up until this last episode. I could not have thought of a worse ending for this series.

They go through all this trouble to save Murasaki, only to leave her in the place that she wanted to get out from? What the fuck is that? That place became an emotional hell, yet now she wants to "change" it from within?

Even if it would've been predictable, I would have preferred an ending where he saves her and they run away into the sunset happily ever after. I was banking on that, but instead I get a final episode of terrible dialogue and an even more terrible "goodbye" between the two main characters.

Also, no closure with any of the other side characters. What happens now?

5/10.

Nvm, 7/10 because I thought 85% of the series was decent.

....never have I watched an anime with as pointless a feature as the blade in his arm, that being said, the supernatural twist doesn't belong in an anime such as this....and using it just as a means of satisfying the ending was brutal....7/10 only because it was pretty interesting up until the last 2 or 3 episodes

I was really dissapointed in the anime. The last chapter of Kure-nai manga was translated today.

The manga was more interesting and whe got a nice normal ending.

If the anime followed the manga, then it would have been a really good anime. They screwed it really good this great story.

That is why sometimes i think that good story's dont need an anime adaption. Because for the big part. Animes tend to screw up a manga/novel or make it look bad. When it iks a really great story.

And in the manga we dont have that whole incest story or murasaki being held captive in her houshold etc.

Lol, so like what was the point of Kurenai hving that blade?

Clearly his Hyouzaki or w.e techniques were good enough to trash that brother who learned from Benika and yet he never used it before except for that fight in the bar.
He is clearly strong and yet doesnt properly fight untill the end? All those times he got beat up seems forced to me now.

When i started watching, I thought he would be strong since the synopsis said hes a "master of an arcane art", but throughout the anime it kept going back and forth with showing him as strong and pathetically weak.

Hell, I dont even care that his blade was completely pointless, but what really pissed me off was the fact that hes been training for years now and when he actually fights hes really strong, and yet he somehow manages to get beat up every single time except for the fight in the bar and this last fight with the bother.

It was great until like episode 8. Then it felt like someone else took over the script and everything just got messed up. *shrugs* I felt like it would have been such a waste if I drop it so close to the end so I just willed myself to finish it.

What's the elbow blade thing for? It just seemed so out of place.

If there's one thing I liked about this anime, it's the characters. They actually have personality! It was so much fun watching Kurenai's gang interact with one another. It had me thinking the anime could have been better if it had taken a more slice of life route. It's not like it was faithful to the original material from the comments I've read. I mean it's not like it's such a big deal if we take out the martial arts aspect since Kurenai's a crappy fighter and his blade seem pretty much like an afterthought.

And that ending...I don't even know what to say *smh*

I would have given it a juicy 9 had it stuck with the tone of ep 1-8 but not even my love for Sawashiro Miyuki and Yuki Aoi could make me give that score for this anime.

Pretty disappointing ending TBH. After blood has been shed, morals have been uplifted, everything ends with a monologue by a SEVEN (7) year old girl. Honestly, the show felt like it took a step in the wrong direction after Murasaki was taken by her brother. The armblade was never really explained in detail and adults risking their common sense over a guy that makes wrong decisions over and over.

Was a solid 7/10 up until that episode. 4/10 for the ending.

Woulda liked it way better if there was a timeskip in which Kurenai comes back to save Murasaki before she comes of age to marry, having gotten stronger and possessing the ability to save her.

I can just agree to the post above. This anime started interesting and good and was totally worth at least a 7/10. The character interaction was good and the story was fine too. But since episode 9 it was going down. It was like the writer were forcing Murasaki back into her household but didn't know how to do it so he pulled that dumb move like "Hey we go to the most dangerous place here and have some fun."

The rescue itself was full of holes, too. First of all Shinkurou wants to be "professional" and didn't want to rescue her at all, despite him being at fault for her being captured again. Of course that changed and he started the rescue. The three of them get their asses kicked and flee the scene. Of course Shinkurou immediately heads back to rescue her.

And then comes the weakest part. They confront the guys who trashed them again and then a miracle occurs and they beat them in a short and one-sided fight. I mean what changed that they could beat them that easily?! And there are no consequences for bad actions. This crazy lin who kills(!) a person and nobody cares. Then the lolicon son who wanted to sleep with his 13 year old sister in the future stabs benika and just gets pummeled again. Poor guy

And of course in the end they leave the seven year old girl in this place fulll of crazy and murderous people, because she want to change the family from within. The "head" of the family who doesn't have a bit authority towards his sons helps her with that.

In the end the last 4 episodes ruined a good anime and those incomprehensible events and a weak and annoying Shinkurou gets this anime a 5/10.

Really nice episode , I almost had a heartbreak when Benika got stabbed , i was so angry.
Beside of that it was a nice anime , loved animation and story.

I got to agree that the last 4 episodes got a little bit incomprehensible but the thing that got me mad the most is that Shinkurou was completly useless at protecting Murasaki , but not her only he put Yayoi and Benika in danger just because he wants to use his own strengh and to rely on his power.
That really pissed me off.

Anyway best chara of the anime was Benika for me! she shouldn't even have teached Ryuuji..

Pros:
-Murasaki and Chizuru were adorable

Cons:
-pathetic male lead - this is what I hate the most
-male lead sounds freaking feminine
-Murasaki (the way she speaks.. damn) is too fucking mature for a 7 year old and she grew up in a secluded place so how?
-boring most of the time
-shitty ending.. no fucking conclusion?

I decided to watch this expecting to see how to take care of a child and this is what I get... and people like this stinking pile of turd? wtf?

Good show

I do had a problem when they have beaten Yayoi and Shinkuro and took Murasaki back at his place. Why didn't he use his Hozuki horn when you saw you'd lose her otherwise?
I know that with this, they took the fight to their place and so Murasaki could end up with her family again but not in the inner sanctuary but it just felt too unnatural that he didn't use his horn. He would rather not use his horn and lose Murasaki than using it and protecting her which he promised.

the other thing that bothered me is that how quick Murasaki changed her attitude towards everything.
From the almighty rich girl to the upbeat girl that gets excited rather quickly. Like when given an old heat stove.

besides from those 2 points, I liked this show and will start reading the mange because I'd like to know more about the Hozuki horn :)

I just finished watching this series for the second time, on DVD this time, on a big projection screen. Wow. Second time around really amazed me. In a number of ways, this reminds me more of good Korean drama than anime.

What impressed me about this final episode is the courage and resolve of Murasaki, to change the Kuhoin from within, and fight for change, rather than submit to it. She even impressed her father. The whole situation was a growing experience for all the characters. Each one of them, unique and possessing of some admirable traits. We see Benika's benevolence and intuition to trust Shinkurou, because of her knowledge of his childhood and Murasaki's. Also interesting were the two women who were Shinkurou's neighbors. They remind me a bit of gypsies and hippy types from the '70s. Fun, likeable, though eccentric. Yayoi was one who grew much, psychologically throughout this arc. I think she is a really classy lady, too.

The assassin/body guard, Lin, was amazing. She recalls to mind actress Chiaki Kuriyam of "Kill Bill" fame, in her assassin role in that film. Hot! Shame she ended up the way she did.

I think Shinkurou is one of the more sincere, genuine characters in anime. He has empathy and he cares about the people who touch his life. He is not one to take on a job haplessly. He really struggles over the decision and considers as many of the ramifications as he can understand. He's the type of person you can trust your life, your kid and your fortune to. As much as Murasaki proclaimed to love him, he never took advantage of her. That, my friends, is a noble person.

Great story, lots of intense dramatic moments, and a great theme about a girl fighting against a long tradition of dark ages mentality in the family she is a part of. In some ways, this series reminds me of the Korean series "Dae Jang Geum", for it's individualistic and heroic female character who battles against a cultural normal that she knows is simply immoral.

I think i just found my new favorite anime.
We were watching them bond, good and bad times together and then all that happiness were taken away by family i hate the most. If i was creator of this story i would kill them all and burn household to ashes. I just get so annoyed and angry when i see story where people lose their freedom by most retarded beliefs.
100/10 from me even though ending was weak.

A very promising start but far too many plot holes spoiled the overall story. 5/10

It was okay. Didnt really get used to Shinkorou's voice up til the end. Its just god-awful. Well it had its moments but overall its pretty average.
