Anime director Yamamoto Yutaka posted on his twitter that he has made a request to the production committee of Fractale to terminate the serialization of its manga. The dispute was originated from the manga author Akasaki Mutsumi's blog entry, which expressed her dissatisfaction with the story of the manga and the anime. Akasaki said she couldn't understand what the producers of the anime wanted to tell and she has been at a loss what to do to make the story interesting. Akasaki immediately removed the entry but Yamamoto saw the screenshot and "felt sad about the current situation of the anime and manga industry. (tweet)" Yamamoto said the production committee will make the final decision of the future of the manga.

I know fractale wasn't great, but it wasn't bad either. Yamamoto's at fault because of the rush ending, it would have been better if he take it slow.

I never saw Fractale before, but is it really bad as people claim?

Because I keep hearing news about this and they act like it's literally the absolute worst anime/manga that ever existed.

Not really... The character designs were messed up for the anime... The manga versions were 500% better..

Fractale is nowhere near being the worst anime that ever existed. It's not spectacular, but it's not that bad either. It's an entertaining watch (depending on how critical you are).

Not really, but Yutaka was hyping it up to be THE BEST SHOW EVER, what with his constant criticisms of the current anime industry. Add on the fact that it was aired on Fuji's noitaminA block which is known for shows that, while not like typical anime, were very enjoyable.

So, expectations were way too high, and they failed to deliver pretty much.

Not at all. It's a decent show (and Hanazawa Kana's Nessa is utterly amazing), but many people (myself included) feel like it did not live up to the potential of the premise.

Most of the derision has far more to do with the behavior of its director, the Yamamoto Yukata referenced here, than the show itself. Yamakan comes off as an extreme drama queen much of the time, and when you couple that with his persecution complex and "nobody understands me" attitude, you have a gaffe-prone director who makes the mistake of making himself the story much of the time.

I think he's talented, and he's been involved in some shows I've loved, but he's really his own worst enemy. I just can not bring myself to like him as a person at all.
^ That. (apart from the last line. I don't think he's very talented, at least as a proper director, he's probably a good animation director.).

For the record, for me, the worst full-length TV series that I was crazy enough to actually complete (not counting Endless Eight) is Nanatsuiro Drops by a country mile. I swear that show was written by your average 12-year old fanfic writer, or at least I would have if I didn't know it was adapted from a VN with (relatively few) sex scenes. Fractale is a masterpiece when compared to that. It's just that it's extremely average when compared to very best anime on my list.

The story has potential and could go on, it all depends on the mangaka so I don't really get why he'd need to interfere "==

Problem with Fractale is that it is "pretentious". The first episode is giving the viewers an impression that the show has a message. In fact, the premise of Fractale is good and INTERESTING. Then after episode 4 or 5, it throws the interesting premise and BLAM! It just turned mediocre.

Nanatsuiro Drops was very average, it ended up a poor quality version of Nanoha, with quite a few uninteresting characters and the main is my most despised character, I want to slap Sumomo and leave her in the Mojave Desert for the wildlife to deal with her.

I agree. Yamamoto needs to either learn how to direct or stfu. If he's in denial that's fine, but he can't go interfering other people's work just because "omg, they couldn't understand my greatness !". Seriously wtf.

Putting aside whether it was good or not (I thought it was okay, nothing amazing), how in the... Nanoha? That is definitely not the first show I'd compare the average magical girl show to. Would make more sense to compare it to all the other more traditional magical girl shows, not the second-most genre-atypical magical girl show ever (behind Madoka of course).

I'll bite. The first comment about it being the worst show needs to watch more shows and/or get better taste.

Anyway, without spoiling too much, what I really liked about Nanatsuiro Drops was the romance aspect, not the mahou shoujo part (which didn't really get cool until Sumomo gets her resolve, and even then, it's dropped in the last few episodes in favor of the drama anyway). So comparing it to Nanoha is not only completely off, but even comparing it to other traditional mahou shoujo isn't right, since the couples in those typically only get established at the end, whereas this anime goes further than that and settles things in the middle.

I guess that rules out a season 2 or OVA? :p

Seriously tho, disappointing to hear, loved the anime, not really sure what every ones problem with it was, other than being a bit shorter than it should have probably been.

Wait, hang on. Is the anime covering he same story as the manga, or is the manga gonna go continue farther than it? Does it have more story behind it?

The only reason I can see him trying to cancel the manga is if the manga had the same exact story within it with no further continuation on development, in which case the anime would ruin the manga anyway.

I hope this isn't the case, cause I would like to read the manga as well and draw my own conclusions about it. To have it canceled mid-story for some arbitrary reason isn't going to go over well.
