| Pretty damn vintage. The art style and plot is either influenced heavily by western comics, or the other way around. The plot is as such, very ridiculous. Whereas this wound mean immediate failure for most manga, devilman carries it of to an extent. characterisation is laughable. |
| Ahead of it's time that sadly lost it's novelty because soo many follow it step. the ambiguity and randomness and lack of character building is understandable since it's focusing more on dark side if humanity. doesn't mean it doesn't lower enjoyment tho. still a notable piece left over during it's era that inspired more to come. yes for me to made people understand what inspired lot of gory action flick trough 70's-80's. |

| Devilman is just typical Nagai schlock. I had fun with it and there are some cool ideas, like demons essentially "coming back" rather than being some invaders from hell. I also dig that he went with the surprisingly grim apocalyptic scenario instead of having someone save the world and all that. I'd recommend it to someone if I know that they wouldn't be repulsed by the art or some tasteless gore+sex stuff, but it's hardly worth the divine privilege of taking up a small row on the sidebar of an anime club over at myanimelist dot net. |
