Mangaka Ushiki Yoshitaka posted on his twitter that he was disappointed to read a report of director Yamauchi Shigeyasu's talk session about Yumekui Merry. In the report, Yamauchi confessed that he failed to wrap up the story of the anime. He said, "I don't understand the concept of 'moe' well and couldn't direct the action scenes well. I thought slow actions might be suitable for moe anime, but it was not a good idea." Ushiki felt sad to know that the anime director considers the Merry anime a failure. I enjoyed the first half of it which followed the manga, but the anime-original parts were really bad IMO. And I seriously can't see what moe has to do with slow action scenes. |

Lol it was a failure and it is true; he did fail to wrap up the story of the anime. It started off well but then it just went downhill |

The animation is not bad but the plot progression was really, meh. dtshyk said: I don't understand the concept of 'moe' well and couldn't direct the action scenes well. I thought slow actions might be suitable for moe anime, but it was not a good idea. What a great excuse. |

The issue of Merry being Moe or not should have nothing to do with the quality of the action sequences. |

Agreed. It started off fantastic, but went tumbling downhill and burst into flame at the finish. Sad really, I really thought it was going to go somewhere.... |

Great, I'm glad I wasn't the only one who thought that anime failed and played out really awkwardly. ![]() |

Well, he should be happy that the director didn't blame him for the poor performance |

I've read the manga after the anime, and I saw that it was far better. So the only good things in the anime for me was the opening, a presentation of the characters and a will to discover the manga. I think it will be good to do a new anime version but more adapted from the manga. But, please, Yoshitaka-san, take your time. |

I dropped it at ep 10. It was ok, but I just got bored of it. At least I'm not the only one who thought the same. |
