Episode 6. Just brilliant. Especially the animation. So many hilarious little touches. Rewatch value 110%. And development in a direction I did not expect:...Getting all three girls together. Maekawa-san is just great. Ryuushi and Erio are so totally over the top, in their different directions. One of the best "harem" episodes I can recall. Some of the visual excellences: Ryuuko's swinging umbrella, her throwing her bag onto the shelf, Erio flying to rescue her stuffed animal, the rhythms of Makoto serving tea to the old lady, when she removed her cup early so we might think he could spill the tea -- but he didn't. Ryuuko's beautiful lunch, and the way she played with it. The way the tomato went into her mouth. The odd angle of the view of her lying on the steps. The natural way her helmet skipped across the ground. Etc., etc., etc. Just great stuff. Some Ghibli real life details, with Shaft playfulness and some of the Shinbou artistic angles. Storyboard by Sayama Kiyoko, director of Vampire Knight and Skip Beat. Her first work for Shinbou, as far as I can see. (Scratch that: ja.Wikipedia shows her doing storyboards for both Arakawa shows.) Directed by Majima Takahiro, who did eps of MadoMagi (#5) and Arakawa2 (#6). Must be young, since he was a "production runner" for three eps of Noein. Four, count 'em four, animation directors. Two of the two-person teams that are doing eps of this show. No wonder they had time to do all those little touches. Animation direction: 村山公輔, 松本元気. Animation direction assistance: 高野晃久, 潮月一也. |

Yumekichi11 said: that is way too adorable. DAT FACE. Personally, I lol'd when I saw it for the first time, and I still do whenever I see it---both because it's absolutely adorable and moe-tastically awkward. It's like she's morphing into Meme~ ~~ Quite honestly, I enjoyed this episode. Sure, the animation quality seemed to drop somewhat, and it just seemed to be padding for future episodes; but, nonetheless, it was necessary. Out of all of the episodes thus far, this was certainly the weakest, but I would defy calling it bad or even lackluster~ There's a clear amount of tension building in Makoto's life now. At least a single episode would have been needed to identify all of the struggles going on so that they can be built-on later and the audience can feel a greater attachment toward the characters involved. After all, this is the halfway point of the series~ Erio's standing in society was clarified by an outside opinion (other than someone related to her). It turns out that she's basically a black mark and had gotten herself a bad rap by indirectly labeling herself as crazy. Ryuuko doesn't want Makoto to have this same influence placed upon him and does her best to subtly tell him to "think over" his relationship with Erio. The grandma telling Makoto that Erio may be nervous is a sign that she might be aware of Makoto's schoolmates attempting to keep him---the only person who really wanted to get to know Erio and be her friend---away from her. Among other tidbits, all of the major events that occurred in this episode were completely necessary for the plot to move forward fluently and to keep with the sympathetic tone~ Not to mention, we saw a flash of what Erio was like in high school before dropping-out during Ryuuko and Makoto's conversation in the rain. It was subtle and open to interpretation; that's doing foreshadowing well, in my opinion~ I'll close my ramblings with a quote from Maekawa that could quite possibly be one of the most important lines in the entire series: "If there's a right time and a right place for everyone, just where does Touwa belong?" |

Is it just me or was there a lot more noticeable QUALITY this episode? Might've just been me but they looked really off-model at times. Otherwise very enjoyable, I adore every scene that uses that really crazy BGM that was used during the bedroom scene |

Well I have not really outline my 2 favorite parts so not many people mentioned but Maekawa has a very naughty face in the following, ![]() in fact it looks perverted but I still love her faces in the spoiler Of course Meme surprising Ryuuko in the following, ![]() was a major wing for me as was Ryuuko the way she reacted in the spoiler The part of Mr Pluto on the chair was adorable considering that Ryuuko hugged him and Erio ran off to stop Ryuuko from touching him. About Ryuuko, small section against haters of her. How can you not love her with all those cute faces of her in the spoiler My 2 other contributions are a GIF I found around the net in the spoiler |

OMG Ryuuko bugged me so much in this episode. I went from liking her at the beginning to not being able to tolerate her childish attempts and rude comments about Erio. I would have said something when she said he would be shunned. - Marissa Chan! |

Overall a hilarious episode, but Ryuushi did end up annoying me this episode with her random screaming and stuff, probably a full episode devoted to her is too much to take haha. And anyone else think it was perfect that Makoto would pick the fish, Hilgendorf's saucord his reason being because 'it stands out from all the others', when all the woman close to him is, shall we say, unique and stands out as well. |

I took it as a reference specifically applying to Erio, since immediately afterward, Ryuuko tells Makoto that she doesn't want him to stand out---again, referring back to the conversation they had in the rain~ |

WAY too much Ryuuko. Ugh, can't stand her. :/ Next episode probably will be just as annoying, with her insulting Erio and trying to win Mako's attention. Yay? |

Thought this was one of the more enjoyable episodes of late. The scene in Makoto's room was exhausting but kinda funny and entertaining at the same time. Sorry, Ryuuko, but girl rolling around in a boy's bed trumps questions about oceanic wildlife each and every time. All the while, Maekawa was having a great time watching it all unfold - which made it that much funnier. And Granny's is the best. Lastly, Ryuuko's comment about not standing out really stood out to me. And in a not so good way. ![]() |

Wasabi said: Ah! So that's what it is. I wonder how many people will buy this as homage to this show. Futons for sure must be on the rise of sales. To wrap yourself one in understanding Erio as a fan of her most likely is priceless for some people out there. Wow Ryuuko pretty much went from cute to annoying in one episode. I prefer Maekawa as a character than her. And the old granny is actually pretty wise, it's a bit sad really when she talked about how her husband and friends have died and she's the next to go. |

Ryuuko is really trying to hide her feelings for him, but at the same time she keeps trying to pull him away from the others! xD It's so fun to see the three of them fighting over him in a clumsy way. Pretty obvious why Meme left huh? "I'm the only boy here....HUH?!" =P Very nice episode, can't wait to see how this is going to unfold. Will there be a catfight? ^^ |
