So I caught up with the manga.

Story seems like the usual shounen themes (uber importancefriendship, hero protect everybody, unique powers only the hero can have and is shown to "evolve" consistently, etcetc.) I'm a bit disappointed though that intelligent fights are not very common. The backstory is somewhat refreshing tho. The gore is the only thing that's more seinen but not as ridiculous as Gantz. The guy do seem to have a knack of killing every character that's not important though.

Not sure what the anime have, but the manga only showed Ganta in a brief trial and I didn't see any jury or parents. This is a whole cover-up though from the upper ups so there's more plausibility.

I really liked the series at first but around halfway through, I started to lose interest.

They had Ganta on camera admitting to the murders. Did you forget that? He was set-up and definitely didn't get a fair trial. Nothing wrong with how he got sent to Deadman Wonderland in my opinion.
You haters make SAO even more popular than it ever would have been. We thank you!!! :)

DW was REALLY rushed and i was disappointed ganta only went through one game (not counting the deadman vs deadman rounds), then everyone started planning a way to escape.

To answer the OP, all of these parents were obviously going to be distraught that they've lost their children to a mass murderer. They want someone to blame, and since Ganta, for some reason unknown to them, survived, he's the perfect scapegoat. I think the whole community would rather convict someone on some flimsy evidence instead of not having any closure as to who killed their children.
Ganta lost everything to the earthquake so that would also work against his case in that they could say he was emotionally damaged from this. Also who would believe the story about some 'Red Man' flying through a third story window and slaughtering a classroom of schoolkids?
My last point will be that Tamaki wanted Ganta in DW and probably payed off the judges to say he was guilty.
With all that being said, everyone should read the manga. It's amazing!
