Cried bitch tears here. Homura is absolutely gorgeous. I know she is a middle schooler (well prob older mentally, considering how much she had to repeat time), those heels and costume is glorious.

More bitter than sweet but sweet nonetheless. Maybe the wings at the end is actually Madoka helping out or something? Don't know, but meh. Can't believe I didn't watch this with the others when it was airing. At least I got the 1080p version to watch lol

I'm still waiting for a character that is more badass and awesome than Homura. I honestly don't think I will live to see this day.

We will see in October when the films are out whether they provide a few more hints.

I have finally gotten around to watching this series. It had so much hype, that I figured it wouldn't be that great. Wow, I was wrong. 10/10 Amazing series. I think i'm still in shock that it's over. I don't know whether I should feel happy or sad. Sayaka still died, Madoka is now all powerful but can't be with her friends ever again (that scene with Homura and Madoka was so sad). But Madoka saved so many people and stopped witches from ever being created again. And Kyuubei is slightly less evil in this universe, I guess.

I was really hoping to find an anime that took a typical fluffy/happy genre, and twisted it into a dark, psychological series. This is definitely that series. And now i'm sad because I feel very confident in saying that I very well might not find such an awesome series like this again. Sure, I may watch some other series in the future and give them 10s and think they are awesome. But it won't be for the same reasons i'm giving this a 10. I don't think i'll find another series that clicked for me in all the right ways like this one did. I'm so jealous of everyone who still has the chance to see this for the first time, having no idea what's going to happen.

Overall, it was a very fun ride, and i'm sad it's over. I still have all the manga variations of it to read, but they probably won't be as good. I guess I still have the movies to look forward to, even if they do just recap the series.

EDIT: Just read that the 3rd movie is going to be a brand new story. I can't wait! I don't think a whole second season is needed, but a sequel movie, I think I would be ok with.

This series is by far one of my favorite anime's ever. Episode 12 was so sad; When Madoka left Homura, I felt like crying. But it was sweet of Madoka to take Sayaka's sacrifice into regard. I'm glad at least Homura remembers her, though; It would be even more devastating if they all forgot Madoka. It's also really adorable how Homura's new weapon is a bow and arrow.

Not to mention the music in this series is phenominal; "Credens Justitiam" and "Numquam Vincar" are my two favorites at the moment. :)

Yuki Kajiura really outdid herself on Madoka. Even her more recent anime music for Fate/Zero did not even come close to Madoka's OST. I love the mysterious feel behind a lot of the songs and a lot of the songs still evoke a lot of the strong emotions that came from the scenes where these songs were played.

Credens Justitiam (Mami's theme), Decretum (Sayaka's theme) and Sis Puella Magica (Main them/Madoka's theme?) are absolutely breathtaking.

She did a superior job with the OST; With every song, the emotions just pour out. It's so fitting and truly powerful-This is definitely my favorite soundtrack in any show or movie. <3

I really love Decretum-That song just sounds like Sayaka to me and really captures how she was feeling and all that jazz. Sayaka's story is definitely well-developed and she truly does things from the kindness of her heart.

(The opening theme song by ClariS is pretty catchy, too. xD)

I really liked the way they handled Sayaka's fall. From the moment she said, "This is the happiest moment in my life," I knew things would go downhill from there. The moment she finally crossed the line into the zone of no return at the end of episode 7 was breathtakingly done. This was also the first time Decretum was played to full effect.

I also really apreciated how Kajiura deviated from the typical sounds of music yet again, especially when it came to battle themes. Usually, battle themes consist of loud drums, trumpets, electric guitars, huge bassy synth sounds, etc. Yet, the only battle track I can think of that does this out of the entire OST is Agmen clientum.

All the other tracks that are played during battle scenes such as Credens justitiam and Decretum fall faarrrrr awwaayy from the typical battle themes. Instead of invoking intensity with typical "intense" feeling, the emotion behind the reasoning for fighting is presented. You don't just hear the swords clashing, the guns blazing, and the blood gushing out from their enemies, you hear the emotions and reasons behind it.

God, Kajiura never ceases to amaze me.

Other notable battle themes that are unique only to PMMM is Pugna cum maga and Venari strigas, which is especially awesome for its awesome mix of string instruments and intense electric guitar. Perfect for the transformation of Sayaka into a wiitch.

I shed manly tears when Sugitta Luminis plays. It has such a heavenly melody.

Kajiura Yuki is one of the very few musicians out there who are capable of writing a theme fit for a goddess.

Wow, I haven't seen such a bullshit ending since Neon Genesis Evangelion. That wasn't even bittersweet, that was just a downright bad end for everyone. Madoka becomes "God", Sayaka still dies, and the other three continue fighting and will almost inevitably die in the near future.

That was just as bad as any of the time-loop ends that Homura ran into, maybe worse. Madoka's wish was utterly and completely pointless. The only thing the ending accomplished was screwing Kyuubey over.

Madoka's character as well as her subsequent wish was part of an important concept regarding innocence and selflessness.

Urobuchi had Sayaka accept her death because she learned to come to terms with the past and to not regret her mistakes. (Keep in mind Madoka asked Sayaka if she wished to change her as well. Sayaka refused the offer, thus accepting her death.)

In the end, Madoka reached her desire to help others and to overcome the fear of death, which terrified her throughout the entire series. Also, Sayaka came to terms with her past and found happiness within her dream of being a hero.

That is only two of many things that were accomplished through this ending. I don't understand why you think that these things are pointless.

Sayaka accepts her death. It's clearly shown in the scene of Kyouske's audition. She no longer regrets her decisions and comes to the realization what her true wish was in the end (remember Mami tried to make her realize in episode 3 whether she really wants to use her wish on someone else, or whether she wants the reciprocation from this wish).

"other three continue fighting and will almost inevitably die in the near future"
Did you expect everyone to be immortal? She didn't wish for that... nor did she wish for world peace or an end to all conflict. The world changed such that the hopes and dreams of the girls are preserved. Instead of becoming a witch, the exact thing they are fighting against, they simply disappear. Instead of dying in despair and betrayal, they remain hopeful to the end. It is a far more realistic ending.

I think that in itself is a drastic change to the world.
However, I do contest the idea that Madoka is a God. Rather, she is the embodiment of hope, akin to a guardian angel.

I guess the ending just left a bad taste in my mouth. Liked the series until that last episode, despite the incessant middle school girl drama. I was just too busy going "really? REALLY?..... Oh come on" when Madoka became God, or an angel, or whatever the shit she became, to actually get emotional for the ending.

I also can't see an "everyone dies before they even get out of high school" ending as anything but a bad end. I think if the rest of the cast never ended up becoming mahou shoujo in the first place after Madoka changed the universe so they didn't, you know, die before they're 15 I would have preferred it. It would have given more weight to Madoka's sacrifice. As it is, it isn't even a bittersweet ending. Just a downright bad end. And at least the bad end in something like School Days was hilarious.

To sum up the ending: "And then everyone died happily ever after."

Unfortunately for you, Urobuchi is a realistic guy who isn't afraid to let the characters in his stories die, regardless of their age.

In the real world, people die before they are even born. At least Urobuchi is kind enough to give these girls 15 years of their life.

I still don't think you understand. Everyone dies. It's just a matter of when. I don't know if it's what you actually mean, but the way you are wording it, it makes me think that you expect everyone to be immortal... What is important is how we meet that end.

What Madoka's wish did was that instead of dying in despair/betrayal/realizing they will become essentially what they fought against, they end their lives hopeful, knowing what they have done has made a difference. Not only that, we see at the end that Homura is working WITH Kyubey, meaning the relationship between Incubators and humans have changed for the better. Is all the evil in the world gone? No. Do people still die? Yes.
Also, no where does it say that girls die before they get out of high school. You are making an incorrect inference here, if not a completely wrong assumption. If you think this is what the ending is about, you really need to go watch it again with both eyes open.

It is a bittersweet ending. Not all of the world's problems are solved, but a very important ones was. Sorry, this isn't your world peace ending with everyone frolicking happily together around beautiful flowers, without a single worry in the world... and where everyone is immortal...
I'm surprised you want a happy-go-lucky ending... There are far too many of them out there...
I was actually expected Urobuchi to go full troll and give us a bad ending.

Urobuchi's ending for PMMM is actually probably the happiest...

What is all the fuss about? this madoka? has something terrible happened to her.

Word.
Move over Haruhi Suzumiya, Madoka IS god. So I guess since she's good, the magical girls are angels...? And Homura is guess The Saviour because she sort of created all of Madoka's power and saved her from dieing, thus leading to Madoka becoming god.
COOL BEANS.
Madoka becoming god sort of fits the song God Is A Girl by Groove Courage REALLY WELL.
"..forgotten as the past, 'cause history will last."
This lyric fits what happened to Madoka really well and:
"She wants to shine forever in time,"
and
"Clearly and free she wants you to be, apart of the future a girl like me,"
Those lyrics fit Madoka all too well.

This show is so overrated. I've just finished it and I still didn't understand what was the big deal about it. Yuki Kajiura (the composer) is the only good thing happened to this series, everything else is just OK. I give it 5/10.
