| This is the worst 1st episode out of every comedies I've watched so far. It tried so incredibly hard to be funny yet I didn't laugh once. Guess it's so bad it's kind of funny again. And let's not talk about the art style. I guess it can't get any worse so I'll try watching the next episode as well. |

| "What the hell am I watching?" That was my first impression of Nichijou, and I mean that in a good way. Nichijou feels like one of those anime that are a few steps removed from being a normal slice of life comedy, but it ever so slightly edges on insanity before completely thrashing that barrier with something exploding or getting shot. Unpredictability and idiots are generally normal elements to gag comedy shows, but Nichijou makes it work with layered jokes that aren't that nonsensical. It's not quite nonsensical as something like Pop Team Epic, nor is it particularly down to Earth like Daily Lives of High School Boys. I can see its roots in Lucky Star, as well as various similarities to Azumanga Daioh, but with a lot more screaming. |
