Well I liked it up until they left. Y u no stay together?! I woulda been ecstatic if the family ended up moving into Shou's house without knowing it lol but that woulda been too normal and predictable huh? Bahhhhh, I'm saaaaad... plus the fact that she was kinda mean to him throughout the movie, until towards the end when they finally became friends. Eh, I did enjoy the movie though, and it was beautifully done.

Felt way too short... we never found out if Shou survived the operation. Then again, any longer might have ruined the pacing.

The movie was great overall, though.

Ahh, but in the beginning of the movie, Shou states saying, "I'll never forget that summer. I spent a week in the old house where my mother grew up."

If you kind of read between the lines, you can assume he did survive his operation since he's talking about his stay there like he's already past that and moved on with his life. But it's just an assumption.

I really enjoyed this movie a lot more then I thought I would. 7/10 (which is high on my scale. Basically means I like it enough that I would buy it but not so much that I'm going to run out and get it anytime soon).

Differing from some others I felt Ponyo was a one time watch and aimed at a younger audience and I don't feel it's necessary to watch it again. While this movie like many other favorite Studio Ghibli movies of mine left me wanting more as soon as it was over!

Though, I do agree that the ending just didn't feel like good closure (if it had maybe it would have been 8/10) and I agree I would have liked to have seen more of Spiller, possibly seen Haru punished, and seen Arrietty family move into the doll house and stay with the young boy after he survives his surgery which is partially how I was hoping to see the ending. I can't help but wonder if the boy did survive his surgery and if so did Arrietty come visit him later???

Signature work in progress (when I find the time)...

I am so glad I watched this. I loved it so, so much. I feel like the ending is kind of bittersweet, but it's beautiful nevertheless. The music was particularly enjoyable and so was the art. Seeing Arrietty's house for the first time was an amazing experience.

As expected of Studii Ghibli, another fantastic film! I love how Arrietty jump back and forth with that small body of hers. I wish I could befriend some "little
people" though, not those bad ones. I want Arrietty and her family. The cat is so fat and cuuuute. <3 I want to have that kind of cat. XDD Sho is so nice and
friendly~ wish him and Arrietty bonded more throughout the film. I hate their goodbye scene. >.< So saaaaaaaaaaad. I hope Arrietty's family did stay on the dollhouse. That maid looking guy is so annoying. I can't help to hate her. But I think overall, it is a heartwarming movie. Hope to see more movies from Ghibli films in the future. They are my favorites.

That's what I assumed from the start, he lived.

I was sad to see Arietty and Sho become separated :(. Other than that, I really liked this anime.

I'm not a huge fan of Ghibli movies... I mean, all of them I've watched so far were stunning, but something was missing for me so that I could put a 10. Perhaps, they were a bit naive for my age or I just didn't have a proper mood for them. But this is the highest score, really. I loved it.

I expected it to end differently. I thought that Haru would get fired or something and the Borrowers would be able to live a peaceful life in the dollhouse

Yep, the same.
But later I got that the dollhouse is like a golden cage... the borrowers would have become unfree even if they still could do what they wished to. It would have been physical freedom but moral captivity.

I also agree that Spiller and Arrietty could become a couple, however, Spiller is a bit barbaric for her...

I'm sure Shou survived 'cause when he was seeing the borrowers off, the sun rose up - like a symbol of life and well-being...

I think only good-hearted people can notice the borrowers or maybe it is certain families who have this possibility (for some reason). Haru didn't belong to that kind and wanted to harm just because she lacked such gift (=seeing borrowers). That's what I thought... maybe, I'm wrong.

I laughed so hard in the crow part, when Haru smacked it with her shoe omg.

It was a really cute movie, and I really want to think Shou did survive his surgery. It could have been nice to know a little bit more but we can't have everything ;^;

Haru pissed me off the whole movie though.

As expected with Ghibli, this movie was just beautiful. The artwork alone makes the film glow. The sentiment behind this movie was captivating. I wanted to cry when Shou discussed life and death with Arrietty. The gentle pacing was perfect.

It didn't bother me that Shou and Arrietty had to separate at the end (although it was sad), but I was still left feeling unfulfilled. I think I was expecting a slightly more climatic climax. Something a tad more intense than the crow scene, instead of just sneaking around to outsmart the crazy lady.

Overall, really nice.

I loved the movie, but it sort of felt unfinished, like it could have a sequel. Maybe it was deliberate though.
