I'm just curious if you guys find you enjoy or rate anime shows differently as you get older.

I guess this question depends on what age you started watching as well. For me I think I began watching anime on and off around maybe age 15? I'm 23 now (yeah I'm an old lady I know) and I just find I really appreciate different genres and all that kind of thing.

I guess it's actually pretty natural - your tastes change and mature as you get older, so it's no surprise it would be reflected in the anime you like.

Have you been tempted to go through your 'Completed' list and change your ratings?
Or have you been tempted to rewatch shows that you feel you maybe didn't totally comprehend at the time? For me I know I need to go back and rewatch the Ghost In the Shell movie (and watch the series at some point). I probably also need to do the same to Evangelion. I saw them when I was younger and was pretty much overwhelmed with a 'wtf' attitude at the time. I think I'd probably be able to appreciate them alot more now.

YEAH. That's me done. Sorry it's a bit of a long ramble, but I'd be really interested to hear any of your thoughts on the matter. I guess I just got a bit annoyed seeing so many show reviews by 12 or 13 year olds. Sure that age opinion definitely matters (considering so much anime is marketed towards them), I just think it's interesting to hear the opinions of those a little bit older.

Cheers!

Ive been watching anime since i was about 12, 19 now. Ive gained more enjoyment from genres that I really used to dislike.

This has caused a boost in the types of animes I'm willing to wach

My views have not really changed a lot since I started watching anime on a regular basis, (about 3 - 4 years). Have picked up a few animes I would have never considered initially.

I began to watch anime in Oct 2009 (Fall 2009) until now, so it only more than 1 year and I watched about 70 series+movies. At first my scores/rating always high but then after somewhat 40 series I went though "Complete list" and change the rating lower thus I gain more experience and opinion while watching diverse anime. And I will lower my rating again soon i think.

Yes, it changed. But sometimes I prerceive some series for kids today better that when I were, for example, 12. For example Dragon Ball: I disliked is as a kid because then I treated cartoons quite seriously, now of course I don't treat it so seriously. ;)

My opinion of the Ronin Warriors has changed: When I was younger it was Epic and Bad ass. I rewatched it recently and I still think it's Epic BUT there's a lot of plot holes I'm realizing, some really stupid stuff happens that didn't bother me before and the one liners are REALLY cheesy now. I do like it as much, I just acknowledge it's flaws more.

I remembered something - I liked Magic Knight Rayearth very much when I was a kid, but now I can't say that it's really as good as I used to think. But subjective reception is still very good for this anime, ;) only "objective" mark is lower than I would give when I was about 12.

ive become more prejudiced in my ratings since i rate certain types of anime a certain way just because of their genre. i also try to be more in depth with my ratings and really think about all the aspects of the anime when im rating it

Nope, I'm open to all genres. Everything I liked back then, I still appreciate now.

x2

Also, I learned something about my enjoyment. If I like the characters, I'll like the anime. If I don't like the characters, I won't enjoy the anime. I'm one of the very few that doesn't care for story or plot (or how "deep" and "complex" it gets--whatever that means to serious viewers).

My tastes for anime have changed, scores too. When I started watching anime I loved Shonen series and ignored the rest, but now I enjoy watching a lot of different genres =)

I still like my Shonen series and they are normally on my priority watch list, but i find my self liking other genres. Though those type of anime need to grab me with in the first 2-3 episodes before i drop it.

Take we without wings, form this sesson. Not really my fav genre not even sure where the heck that anime is even going, but it caught my attention in the first episode.

My way of rating really has changed. Shonen's were always 5/5 no matter what, now i actually let the story, flow, and art affect my ratings.
