Index is the main storyline and revolves around Touma (male lead) plus several female leads with their own story arcs including Index (the first arc's lead) and Misaka Mikoto ("Railgun", a top level electromagnetic esper). Index is set in a scifi city, but has a lot of magic/conspiracy conflicts. The storylines tend to explore the world of magicians more than the espers and it gets pretty dark. Railgun is a spin off slice-of-life series focused around Misaka Mikoto and her friends in Academy City. All of the storylines are scifi and explore the world of espers/not-quite-espers. It has a generally lighter tone, but gets more serious toward the end. So story-wise, the two series can be watched in any order, but I would recommend watching Railgun, Index, and Index II in that order primarily because Railgun is more laid-back in pacing (so you start slow and speed up into Index). |

Could you please post this in the series discussion threads, so either the Railgun or Index board? Anyhow, moved it for you. Railgun is merely a side-story to the Index show, so you can easily watch them seperately, but I think you'll enjoy Railgun more if you first watch Index. (So you'll later get all the cameos etc.) I personally enjoyed Railgun more, simply because it was laid-back, had more likable characters, while Index started getting too 'episodic' and ended up all over the place. ![]() |

I would go with Railgun first, then Index, then Index II (<---ofc?!). How I would put it is Railgun establishes the character background stories of "Academy City" focusing mainly on Misaka. It also introduces esper powers and mildly introduce us to Touma. Index feels like a continuation of Railgun building up on it circling around Touma with Misaka and Index with lots more action. Magic is entered as well to the esper powers! |

Imo watch index 1 so you get a basis of the world/setting and misaka, then railgun will be 1 easier to understand and 2 more fun to watch :D. -Elektonix - Handsup/Eurodance/Dancecore Producer- http://www.elektonix.webs.com - http://www.youtube.com/llindenau ![]() ![]() ![]() |

asked a friend of mine an he said the rule of thumb is usually broadcast order, so i guess its index, railgun, index II then, guess its kinda magic, science, wrap up? (atleast for the focus on the worlds, since index focus' on the magic, an railgun i assume focus' on the science/esper side, while of course index II would end the story) |
