According to the official website, NHK announced an original TV anime "Phi Φ Brain ~Kami no Puzzle". The 25 episode series will start next autumn.

Synopsis:
Daimon Kaito is a high school boy, who loves puzzles. One day, the president of the student council gives him a mobile device and it leads him to an underground ruin buried in the school. He challenges an " insoluble puzzle" hidden in the ruin with his girlfriend Nonoha, but the puzzle turns out to be a dangerous "The Puzzle of Sage" created by a black society "POG". He manages to solve the puzzle but it's the beginning of the puzzle battle against POG.

Puzzle battles? Junichi Sato? I will be keeping an eye on this. It probably won't be a masterpiece, but if it''s anything like Yu-Gi-Oh, it should be fun to watch regardless of that.

Couldn't agree more.

I hope the puzzles will be intelligent enough (a la Professor Layton) and that "puzzle battles" won't be in a generic Shounen style ("This guy is the greatest puzzle solver in this area, there is no way you''ll beat him !" and/or some sort of power-level system) .

Next fall ? that is a long time to wait.

professor layton x yu-gi-oh! as presented by sato junichi?

this could be really good or really bad. a lot of sunrise's upcoming shows seem hit-or-miss. sato junichi has a pretty good track record, though. i'll hold out for more artwork before i say anything more.
