As alternative on "Films for LotGH fans".

Which computer games would you recommend a LotGH fan? With all the CoD revisions and poorly polished games out there, it becomes harder to find good, entertaining games. Also, please mention the current price and if it's worth it. If not, please mention your advice price.

I'll start first:

The Mass Effect trilogy seems promising (there's only two of them yet though). Mass Effect 1 can be found in the Steam store for EUR 15,- and I'd say it's worth it. Mass Effect 2 is still EUR 30,- and I'm not sure if I should get it (I'm hearing a lot of bad and good things about it), so I'll wait for it to appear in the Steam holiday sales.

Homeworld, Sins of a Solar Empire, Galactic Civilizations and the Space Empires series are all splendid.

Homeworld and SoaSE brings awesome real time battles, Homeworld being more realistic in the 3d movement department while SoaSE being bigger in scale as well as being a 4EX RTS.
GalCiv and Space Empires are both splendid 4EX TBS. From the ones I've played, I'd say that GalCiv is better looking and overall smoother, while SE is more in depth (Even letting you build crazy things like Dyson Spheres) and with a rougher edge.

For RPGs, I'd also recommend Infinite Space, having a fairly good story (even if it wobbles in the end) with interesting characters and a huge repertoire of ships and modification options.

FF Tactics is also brilliant. Featuring a grim medieval setting full of political schemes and intrigues surrounding a war of succession and hidden plots by the oppressive religious authorities. And tactical battles, obviously.

Valkyria Chronicles also has some similarities, a backdrop full of war and some political twists, as well as a scheming blond brat on the imperial side and incompetent commanders on the players side.

I bought it because I'm a big fan of Fire Emblem and space operas.
Eventually, the only thing I liked in this game was the ships customization system.

I never managed to finish it... I've played something like 30 hours (I'm in the second part) and I just can't find the motivation to carry on...
Not only because this sh*t is HARD but because I found the characters to be dull (and cliché, stupid, etc) and the story... I don't even remember what it was about, just that there were people with unpronounceable names and hideous chara-design which were fighting for some reasons I didn't care about...
To be fair, some parts were good. But that's it for me.

Well, I never found it that hard, but that's probably because I grinded a bit much. I did end up using that Borodino battleship as a flagship all the way until the second part though, I guess that was kind of a stretch.
The story was good enough imo, it was just the insistence on upping the ante and adding that ridiculous final enemy that got to me. The characters really could have gotten some more flesh and interaction though, the cast was too big so a lot of them just said a couple of lines and then never did anything interesting again.
