I made a special manga reading playlist that's made up of my favorite anime/game/movie music. (It's a lot of J-Pop if you haven't guessed) It almost always seems to fit with whatever is happening in the manga I'm reading.

Ooh I like music with words mostly. Japanese, not English, so that I don't have two of the same language going on in my head. I like my manga with j-pop

Cause when I tried OSTs and such, it matched sometimes, but when the mood changed in the manga, I hurried to change the song, and it got annoying after a while.

Anything that isn't too distracting.

Some generic pop/rock or even something electronic. You know the manga is a fail if you enjoy generic music more than it.

It is wrong to listen to music while reading Manga. Just wrong. Silence is necessary in order to truly appreciate the words and images.

Trance, techno, good stuff without a lot of words, or non-English music, so you don't get distracted easily. Like mentioned, the OP/ED if it has an anime, or something.

^Yup
A really good song IMO is God Knows for Episode 12 of Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya!

^From the moment I downloaded the Imperishable Night soundtrack it is the only thing I hear while reading. Touhou music is epic (and so is the game if you can play lunatic).
Although I do hear some different game OST's sometimes for a change. Usually Kingdom Hearts is my pick.

Create playlists. I had that problem myself with final fantasy songs. The battle theme kicks in during drama/comedy moments and annoyed me. I made a playlist each for a different manga genre.

like you guys say, it utterly depends on the manga.
I cant listen to anything full on or too loud or distracting and stuff, other wise i cant concentrate and end up re-reading the same panel over and over again.
I listen to OST's alot. Or mostly slow, sad relaxing songs. things that just ease my mind into the pictures and words.

I haven't ever willingly listened to music while reading manga, but my dad always seems to be playing(crappy) guitar and listening to old school rock. Now, this actually fit 20th Century Boys, as old rock was actually part of the storyline.

But, Rurouni Kenshin? Hell no. Unfortunately, I have no taste when comes to putting music together with a manga. Though, I do know the anime versions music doesn't particularly suit it imo.

It depends on the manga I'm reading.......if I'm reading horror then I'll listen to some horror soundtracks from some movie....if it's samurai or something like that I'll probably listen to some soundtracks from the last samurai movie, if it's about mafia then I'll listen to some 20's chicago blues music :P

I don't always listen to music when I read manga, but I tend to play Kitarō's pieces when I read historical mangas. Epic music for epic mangas. :D

Depends... if I'm reading a horror manga, I like listening to psychadelic japan rock bands by Keiji Haino.

If I'm reading something more softcore (like slce of life), then I like lisening to indie music (eg. Beach House), or if I'm reading something more seinen I listen to boards of canada.

If I'm reading manga it's ussually laid back music.

Stuff like hiphop beats ( J Dilla, TOKiMONSTA, NOMAK, Nujabes etc. ) or Tom Waits

I'll either listen to stuff from iTunes that I haven't listened to yet, or I will listen to the OST if it has an anime, and if I already have the music downloaded.

I was listening to the Aoi Hana OST while reading Aoi Hana last night.

Anthony Green
Circa Survive
Emery
The Dear Hunter

Thats usually what i listen to while reading.

The Sound of Animals Fighting - The Heretic

Something that doesn't distractes me too much, mostly music with very few lyrics (if any), like electronic, trance, dance, techno, hardcore, drum 'n bass, chillout, ambient, etc. If the manga has an anime adaptation, I'll listen to the OST, of course.

I make quite a few manga-reading playlists, so I know what the OP means. :) Music really immerses you into the experience.

Anyway, all I can really recommend are genres that fit the manga you're reading. If it's Kuroshitsuji, for example, make a playlist out of the soundtrack, and then find as many creepy Gothic chants or... heck, even symphonic metal. If you don't really have much music, might I recommend the wonderful GrooveShark? :)

Sometimes I listen to some instrumental or piano music when reading really dramatic or sad stuff, to kind of increase the emotional impact, I guess. It's fun.

I can't listen to songs with actual lyrics when I read, or I'll pay attention to the lyrics and not what I'm reading. It's like trying to listen to 2 people talking at once XP
