So, as far as I can see, members of MAL really HATE Louise - even going so far as to call her a "bitch," "evil," etc. Why so much hate? Yes, she's a major tsundere... But I think she has more justification that tsundere girls in other shows. When you think of the intensely social-class-obsessed world she lives in, and the fact that she has spent most of her life as a "no talent Zero," you can understand how she would be cold and aggressive to outsiders. ![]() |

Some people don't like tsundere types. You can't judge the populace based on what a handful of people say. |

I like tsundere characters, but Louise annoys me because she never seems to develop. It's just boring and annoying if every time she thinks "Oh, I'll trust Saito next time!" she then proceeds to... act exactly the same as usual and beat him without even giving him a chance to explain. That, and what Lordcrab said. Even if it's justified (sort of), she's still a character that comes across as unlikeable to many people. If any of my posts seem odd, it's probably because I'm tired. Sorry. I have sleeping issues. |

What explanation are you expecting? What reaction do you want? She does it even whenhe's not ogling other girls, and she's just making the assumption that he is; and that's when it annoys me. For example, I'm pretty sure there's one point in either the second or third season where she misunderstands a situation, is a huge bitch about it without listening to an explanation, then has the actual situation shown to her, has a 'Oh, I'll trust Saito that it's a misunderstanding next time' monologue, and then does the exact same thing in the next episode. So it's either bad writing, or she's a bad character. Or both. It's just made worse by the fact that her way of punishing him is waaaay out of proportion to what he's done a lot of the time. I'm not trying to say Saito is perfect and she's oh-so-evil for getting annoyed with him- he comes across as pretty unlikeable a lot of the time too- but it would be nice if her character actually developed a little instead of being a whip-happy brat all the time. If any of my posts seem odd, it's probably because I'm tired. Sorry. I have sleeping issues. |

She makes assumptions because she caught him doing it so many times before. That's a natural reaction, don't you think? Most of the time she's justified too-if you remember the episode with the magic glasses, then it's quite obvious that Saito is dirty minded. There's nothing more to it. As far as punishment goes, it's an anime set in another world. You can't really comment on it being disproportionate unless you have something else to compare it with, which you don't. |

I don't know anyone hotheaded enough to start beating their partners up without letting them get at least a couple of words in first; and if I did, I probably wouldn't like them much. You're right with your example, but I don't think that's the one I was thinking of. As for punishment, in the light novels (I think the scene I'm talking about wasn't included in the anime), some of the other students see her 'disciplining' Saito. They're horrified by it, and seem to think she's taking it way too far. So, obviously, even in universe she's being much more violent than necessary. I haven't read all the light novels yet myself, so I can't give you another specific example, but I've been told that other characters comment on how badly Saito is treated by Louise too. Besides, maybe it's just a matter of personal opinion, but I don't think that beating someone with a whip or riding crop can ever be justified as a proportionate reaction to looking at/ touching other girls. Especially in the times before Louise and Saito are actually a couple. Edit: Because none of this is really answering the question asked by the OP drectly ^^; Ultimately, it's a really subjective thing, so no one can truly be right about if she's likeable or not. But to answer the original question of 'why so much hate'; she has a personality that many think is too extreme, even in cases where it seems justified. There are a lot of people (or a very vocal minority, it's hard to tell which) of people who find her unlikeable because of this, and therefore want to comment on it. I haven't been through the MAL discussion for this series, so I don't know, but if it seems like there's an especially large number of people who dislike her here, it's probably just coincidential, as there seem to be plenty of people who like her as well. In my opinion, blowing someone up is worse than whipping them, but maybe that's just me. Anyway, I believe people are more vocal about hating Louise because they expected/wanted something else, just as they did with the series. I personally was not expecting anything, so I find her quite likeable (if harsh at times), but I'm pretty sure many were expecting another Shana or Taiga, leading to disappointment. After all, you don't see this much hate for characters that are *actually* cruel. |

After all, you don't see this much hate for characters that are *actually* cruel. I wouldn't be surprised if unmet expectations is the reason for a lot of people's hate. Personally, I also began watching ZnT with no expectations (I don't think I'd seen any other shows with KugiRie tsunderes at that point, and all I really knew about the series was romance+magic school+plot that a friend said was good), and found Louise likeable, if harsh, at first. However, like I mentioned before, the fact that her character doesn't ever seem to develop, or is just reset when it actually does, made her less and less likeable to me. I wouldn't say I hate her- in fact, during her more deredere moments I think she's adorable- but her tsuntsun side is too bratty and violent for me to enjoy. I think it's worth noting, though, that, while I can't speak for anyone else, my opinion of her might've been slightly more positive before I began reading the novels. The anime tones down how violent she is, and also tones up how perverted Saito is, so my sympathies are probably a little different to people who've only watched the anime. I think the same reason might apply for a few other people who dislike her, but it's hard to say for sure; I haven't really asked anyone, and I really wouldn't be surprised if a lot of people who liked her in the anime have read the novels and still like her. If any of my posts seem odd, it's probably because I'm tired. Sorry. I have sleeping issues. |

I actually like how saito-louise's relationship keeps resetting. This is one of those funny and light shows where I prefer for there to be less character development and more "BAKA INU!!!" moments. IMO, thats how comedy-centered animes should go in terms of boy/girl relationships. Louise is definately one of my favorite TsunTsundere characters |

I agree with most of the people here. I actually haven't seen Zero No Tsukaima (I'm not in the club, lol.) but I've seen some clips of Louise on Youtube. She really beats up the boy for no reason. She beats him up when she hasn't even seen his side of the story and doesn't listen to him at all. She acts like a brat most of the time and is way too violent. She nearly kills the boy just for looking at other girls. (Sorry if I shouldn't have replied because I'm not in this club. ^_^" I just thought this topic was interesting.) "I didn't call you stupid. Calling you stupid would be an insult to the stupid people out there." |

Huh. I actually like Louise. Then again, tsunderes are my weakness. Taiga might be influencing me too. ![]() |

I love Louise =). The fact of the matter is that's how the creators decided to develop her character and in the end she's still a tsundere and the fact that she became caring and loving in the end is all that matters =) |

She is the most annoying little wanker ever created. I went into the show expecting a tsundere, sure, but they usually turn into more dere towards the end, where she was 99% tsun 1% Derp. I swear, the only things I remember from ZnT are her beating the crap into her man slave, the relationship resets (which pissed me off to no end, I actually want development in my shows) and the general lack of anything other than cheap fanservice for people who love underdeveloped, insecure midgets who gain solace from beating the shit into the men who care about them. |

This is my impression of Louise just from watching 1st six episodes so I cant tell definitely yet but i think that i'm starting to dislike/hate Louise already, Saito should make it clear that he is man not a dog in their relationships. Maybe saito is masochist :D It might actually be Saitos fault that i'm about to dislike Louise coz he never opposes to her taking him like dirty dog. I hope that their relationship will get more even farther in story. i cant imagine watching S/M salon like that :-X What avergy guy would accept that so easily :P Thats my opinion only from 6 eps so don't criticize me if itll change since i dont know it yet :) Edit: so i've seen all ,,, basically Louise character made me to hate all yandere characters in any other animes... man how do they do it ? this irritations is bad thing ya-daa!! :P Modified by greenmarty, 02-19-11, 4:44 AM |
