Hi everyone,

I've just released a MAL client for iPhone and iPod Touch on the App Store. It's named Pocket-MAL. This first version has basic functionality but I plan to expand them on regular basis. The next version will have nice UI improvements (it's almost done). Then i will focus on adding new functionality.

Feel free to contact me for every problem or for suggestions on how to improve the app.
Hope you enjoy

Thanks for downloading it.
I've already submitted an update (it's in the review queue) to improve the UI.
The next update will be focused on adding new functionality:

  • Ability to update an anime/manga (ex: change status) in your personal list
  • Search in your personal list

thanks yeah thats the only thing i noticed, that you can add anime but you can't choose if your watching/completed/plan to watch etc.

if it brought you to a page like the advanced info/add page that'd be awesome (when you click add anime)

and then if your anime on your list were separated into, completed/on-going/plan to watch/ on hold/dropped in alphabetical order

and then maybe have it had a show/hide drop down box on the anime page(where it has the descriptions) if it had it for a few of the reviews

thanks man for the amazing app

the above is just some observations, that'd be awesome.

it works great, can't wait for the update and ones to come :D

Just a quick status update. Pocket-MAL 1.1.0 is waiting for review (it will take some days). As I said this update is focused on UI improvements. Here's how the search screen and the search details screen look like now:

I really like where this is going, so i hope you'll keep developing this app!
Also, if you made an Android version i think that would make bunches of people happy as well ;-)

I see that the functionality is there, so if you work a bit on the UI (like it looks like you are doing) this will be awesome.

My thoughts:
The icon for the app looks.. not good. It doesnt fit on the homescreen at all.
The menubar-buttons in the bottom arent optimized for the iPhone4 resolution, so they kinda look like shit on an iPhone4. Probably same with the homescreen-icon.

The settings-dialogue isnt very pretty either, but you might have already fixed that as well in the new version.

Also, you should close the keyboard down when your credentials have been verified.

When adding things to your list, it doesnt seem like it checks if stuff is already in your list? I still get the "Add" button on series which are already Completed or Watching for me.

Hi viddy,

i'm glad you like the app. You're right, the main icon and the tab bar icons are non optimized for the iphone 4. I will scale the main icon to 114x114px (ip4 homescreen icon res) in the next release (not the update already submitted).

I've changed the settings view in 1.1.0. Now it looks nicer and better integrated with the ui look and feel (also fixed the keyboard problem).

I'm already working on a new release which will add the ability to change the personal status of an anime/manga (ex. setting the watching status, score, episodes read and so an). Next i will fix the add behaviour.

Hi,

just want to let you know that i've submitted Pocket-MAL 1.5.0. This version will add the ability to update your watch/read status, episodes/volumes/chapters watched/read, and your score.
As for the previous version it will take some days to complete the review process.

Hi Kasuki,

unfortunately this app is only for iPhone. If you are interested in an Android app you can check this MAL For Android

Hmm, looking good :). Although I don't like the actual design of the app, it does what it has to do and that's great!

This was a quick concept I did for a different app: http://forr.st/~mpQ
It's an app based on games, but you could use some same kind of graphical UI for the MAL-app.

Awesome, thanks! I've been wanting a MAL app. Just downloaded it and I agree with GJ, the GUI could use some work but apart from that i like it. :)

It'd be pretty cool if you could get the MAL logo as the app icon as well.

Hi everybody,

i've decided to change the UI in the next version of Pocket-MAL (the mockup posted by GJ seems a wonderful starting point). I also want this to be a "community driven" process, so i will post here every change i'll make to the UI and you will be able to make suggestions.
I'm starting with the search screen (i also want to include a filter option to search only anime/manga/both). Expect news in the next days.
