Such a strange story. The ending episodes were amazing, and I love the artwork. The story themes are so well written in that references just pop, and make sense. I wish Japanese was my first language, so I could understand more of the word play.

As far as plot goes, I felt that half the episodes were detracting from the epicness of it. I was starting to be disappointed with it all, and then the ending was just wow.

This ending was not at all like I expected. Then again this anime was nothing like I expected. It had a decent ending, I liked it, although it felt a little rushed at the very end. 4/5 for the ending...

What the hell is up with episode 19 though? Pino, I love yah, but don't go to Disneyworld...please...

That was my interpretation, although it's also possible he said it only as a vehicle to say the title in the last line of the series.

I thought of it as more of a [atlest in part] hes come to peace with his identity, which is what he origionally set out to do.
But it also does seem like he is angered at the creators.

I didn't quite understand as to why Vincent didn't die the way One and Monad did. He is a proxy isn't he? So why didn't he get burnt?

Overall, very good series. Very deep. I think some episodes were over the top and were extremely difficult to follow but I am giving 10/10 nevertheless, this is definitely one of the best series I have seen. I recon it's much better than Ghost in the Shell: Innocence which addresses slightly different issues and ideas but which also shares a lot in common.

I liked the ending a lot though I was equally confused too! Maybe is it because I've to re-watch it again or is the English dubbed version that I saw was lacking in some key elements which got lost in translation?

What where the three aircraft (kinda reminded me of Starwars) in the background of Ergo Proxy when he muttered "I am Ergo Proxy, I am the agent of death" doing? They were not from Romdo I suppose, where they from Ergo Proxy's creators?

Just... wow. AWESOME ending, specially because of Pino :D

But the Death Proxy stuff didn't make sense. I thought he would meet with Lil, they'd fuck hard and live happily after, but no what, he's gonna be a dick and destroy the remaining humans?

Still a very good, even though weird anime.

Wow... what an amazing ending.

This was a very open ending. "I am Ergo Proxy, The agent of death" and "Now the true battle shall begin" suggests that Vincent will battle against the creators once they arrive. I really hope for a second season or at least an ova.

Definitely one of my favourite anime, it fucked with my mind a lot but it was overall an awesome 'acid' trip ^^

Would Vincent really battle or wage war against the Creators (Human race)? Since the humans created Proxies, I bet they'd have developed ways to exterminate them too. I do share your view that a second season or at least an OVA should be made. I'm dying to know the fates of Pino and Re-l after Romdo's destruction. These characters are just too awesome not to be heard from again. The endiong left me wanting more!

Yup, an awesome acid trip it is but it was worth the headache! LOL

sooo ... humans created Proxies ? they are creators ? so, who are people in Romdo ? where they only "puppets" ?
Proxies are... "hands of god" (or whatever they were called) ... argh ! can't understand :(

anyway ... GREAT ANIME ! GREAT ENDING ! and those blue eyes *.* ! WONDERFUL !

A lot of the scenes from that link were not from the anime series. What gives? Now I'm very confused!

New for me:
1. A new scene of Vincent injecting/checking an infected AutoRiev for the Cogito virus, this time with Re-l and Iggy watching him work.
2. First Lab scene of Monad Proxy (Episode 1), Daedalus looks quite older and taller in this scene, plus Raul Creed is there with him!
3. Re-l is ogling a rectangular pendant instead of the Proxy pendant (never saw that before).
4. The Proxy that went inside Re-l's bathroom in Episode 1 is not wearing the Proxy mask and looks more like Steve Buscemi!
5. A different setting for Donov Mayer and the Collective (not the dark hall like area), the Collective appear differently and not the Michaelangelo's statues from the Medici Chapel tomb!It also appears that Donov Mayer can speak, he's also without his entourage.

May I also add that a scene from the last part of that video where they were outside Romdo (Vince is with Pino and Hoody sitting by the lakeside) is very beautifully made. The details are just so brilliant, from the sky, rocks, the water, the characters and even their breath steaming from the cold weather is depicted very accurately!

Is this from a director's cut DVD or was this the initial, should I say raw or promotional episode? Damn, the animation is way cooler than anything I've seen from the 23 episode series!

pretty much it looks like an alternative version of the anime.
however i could not find any information on whether there even exists another version.
my guesses are that they either gave up on this version. or (looking at the graphics in this trailer) a yet-to-be released and announced version. if the latter is right then all there really is to do is just wait.

The ending was good; but what bothered me about this series was the fact that some episodes did absolutely nothing to further the plot, and should've been taken out.

Episode 14 - 2 Lils + 2 Vincents
Episode 15 - The Quiz Show episode
Episode 19 - The Disneyworld episode
Episode 20 - The multiple personality episode

The first 12 episodes were so good. Unfortunately, the above episodes ruined the second half for me.

To the people who think this series was just the director trying to mess with people and had no substance, well, I would be respectful and say "I disagree" instead of "You're wrong," but... no, you're wrong. I'm talking mostly about Archon's post.

And I loved those episodes that bjt hated. The Quiz episode definitely furthered the plot, revealing a lot of secrets to us, and the other ones were more self-contained stories yes, but they were really well-told well-written stories.

I am still not 100% clear on most of the existential elements of the story after finishing, but I got most of it, and I am very happy. This was an excellent, excellent show. I'm going to give it a 9/10 for right now. I almost want to give it a 10, but I hate giving out 10s.

And woooo suck it, Daedalus. Way to get smashed to death by falling debris, loser!

Yeah well about the ships at the end of the series, I believe it to be humans coming from outer space, Note episode 15: the game show episode where the space station is mentioned as humanities last hope, Leaving the fact that humans in space most likely saw their oppurtunity to return to the planet and took it...Now Vincent see's this and says I am the Emissary of Death...also considering that when the first was about to die he said: "Through your life you will punish the creator!" it ties in perfectly..And considering Humans created the proxies humanity must be the creator..Well that's my view on the ending...And now good old Vincent is gonna give them hell.

To sum up the summary in short, mankind made an evacuation spaceship to live on another planet when their planet was no longer habitable. ( Due to their fuel source) Mankind created the proxies to make the domes, and were destined to die once the earth was repaired. ( Although i missed why mankind made proxies, I'm just to tired to remember). So now that the earth is habitable, mankind has returned.

I just don't see what happened to all the other domes, why did the main dome attack mosco?

That's what I was thinking too. In the game show episode they show the evaucation ship that was used by some of the human population to escape the apocolypse. Then in episode 23, Proxy 1 says, "The human race had to be destroyed. They brought this world to ruin. Then ran away. Oh, how they ran."

I didn't get the impression that humans created the proxies. When Proxy 1 starts talking about the creator, he makes it sound like it is just one person: "The creator wishes to be loved as well. It's as if I can feel his solitude and despair in the very depths of my soul."

This anime was amazing. The ending seriously tied up the whole story perfectly and it was pretty awesome. Rauls Entourage was kind of uneccesary but I guess Pino isn't too capable of protecting herself. So in the end Vincent wins out against his former self and yeah. The ending was absolutely amazinggggggg. Best ending in ages. I was thinking something like "oh they're gunna sail off on the Centzon into the horizon *fade out*" Kind of ending but this ending was so much betterr!.

SO BASICALLY...

So the Proxy Project was to create god like creatures to help resurrect the human race and each of them were in charge of creating one city each. Meaning there would have been 300 cities in total. However once these cities prosper and become successful the proxies are unneeded and unnecessary, making them look like monsters or demons, shunned from society, and the very people they created, they either destroyed the defected humans, or just shut themselves away. Romdeau, understanding their demise was imminent was desperately trying to find a Proxy to help it survive, thats where Monad and Ergo come in.

Sorry just wanted to clear things up for both myself and anyone who was confused. Please correct me if I'm wrong as I am also not too sure what's going on.

those were most likely the rockets that were referred to in the quiz episode. The humans have returned seeing the environment is stable enough to thrive on. And Ergo Proxy is like "Imma bring them hell.."

well uh Funnymrbunny, i was confused too. First of the though ill just be a typical anime fan boy and say it was an amazing anime, somthing real deep that i havnt seen in a while. Pure class. The last ep was hard to follow but i have watched it over enough times now to have a half decent idea on what is going on. Proxy 1 created Ergo Proxy, or vincent, and Ergo Proxy then went on to make romdeau but he was an imperfect god from what i gather and was ashamed of his work and thats why he left to join his love Monard Proxy in the mosk dome, however this was planned by Proxy 1 because he "programmed" a mission into him as Ergo Proxy says in the english dubbed version. This mission , from what i gather, was to subconciously kill all the proxies when then human race was ready to ruturn to there earth, becomeing "the pulse of the awakining" however because Vincet Law was the personallity created when Ergo Proxy fled, he saw the world and the people in it, and therefore cound not continue to kill them instead fighting back to help the rest of the humans and become part of the new world? well thats what i gather anyway, im not really sure. But Monard Proxy gave Ergo Proxy a chance to join her and leave this world and its suffereing behind, however he refused so i believe that means he didnt want to die rather than continue to help restore the world. and i loved the ending "I am Ergo Proxy, the agent of death" this was epic because he ment that death was the key to new life, and how that through the fall of romdeau ment humans were ready to return to there earth.

kay im done now, any of this make sense? its all just my opinion after all.

besides the epic last episode confussion i love this anime, its somthing special.

10/10 easily

This joins an extremely small list of anime which actually have good endings. So in the end the Proxy were indeed proxy for the Creator. I'm still not certain what Proxy One is though, maybe Ergo Proxy before his memories were lost or the part of his memories which he discarded, who knows. I like the idea of 'God' (in this case Ergo Proxy) being one of us and wanting to stay with his love Re-l. Overall, an enjoyable series but great characters; Re-l, Vincent, Pino, Daedalus and Raul all had complex personalities and even minor characters such as Fuudy and Quinn were interesting. Not to mention the various Proxy and the way they tried to hinder Vincent and Re-l. I also loved the homages to classic works such as Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep and the themes of God, existence and morality and the animation was great for the most part except for some inconsistencies with facial animation. Perhaps the series tried to be too clever at times, such as the Disney parody episode, and the plot was rather loose at times but it was still good to watch. 8.5/10

I loved the fact that they incorporated Descartes theory of Cogito Ergo Sum "I think, therefore I am" and utilized it so that it played a major part in the story of the anime, taking into consideration Vincent's struggle for identity, The game show episode illustrated this nicely.
Also the 'Cogito' virus, derived obviously from Descartes theory and how the robot's gain awareness and their own sense of existence, their own thought(s) so to say, thus through the ability of thought they now 'exist'; "I think, Therfore I am" which now allows them to search for their own purpose.
