My absolute favorites are easily
- Higurashi
- Black Lagoon & The Second Barrage
- Blood+
- Mnemosyne
- Baccano! & OAV
- Elfen Lied
- Rurouni Kenshin: Tsuiokuhen

Then... BALDR FORCE EXE Resolution was quite violent (exploding heads, rape, psychological, etc) and actually well-done. I think I'll rewatch it soon.
Boogiepop Phantom is pretty gory.
Then, Yuu Yuu Hakusho, can't forget about this one. :-D
Evangelion as well, even if it's not so "violence-focused", it still has some crude scenes.

If I'd have to choose one from the club's list, I'd choose Neon Genesis Evangelion, but in my opinion it's not really gory, I don't even know why is it on this list.
If I'd choose from, what I think it's gory, then my favourites would be Shigurui, Higurashi, Hellsing OVA, Baccano, Akira and Perfect Blue (even though I think the last three weren't even that bloody), but I didn't like neither of them for the amount of blood

And for Elfen Lied: I don't really get, why people like it so much. If you like it for the gore, then there are way more violent shows out there, and it was neither emotional or clever, I might say it was a stupid fanservice show, with forced unrealistic drama. But I respect you choice

Gantz and Elfen Lied
"Overwhelmed as one would be, placed in my position.
Such a heavy burden now to be the one.
Born to bear and read to all
The details of our ending.
To write it down for all the world to see.
But I forgot my pen,
Shit the bed again,
Typical."

Elfen Lied was okay, but trailed off too much at the end.

Black Lagoon's second season's vampire arc had some awesome concepts and plenty of good violence, but I wanted more of that in general. (And the rest of it tapered off into boring nothingness after the second arc of the season!)

Gantz is stupid.

I'll have to check out Devilman.

I've found that it isn't gore if it's just blood spatting here and there. Sure some people by just watching claymore (awww Clare :D) will start choking on their own puke o_o but to me gore is gore once there are limbs and guts flying ^-^ i'm a sick puppy indeed

Higurashi no Naku Koro ni is nice but if you want some visual disgust then read Tokyo Akazukin - it's a manga which I wish was an anime *sigh*

Higurashi ( all series ) and Elfen Lied.

Elfen Lied, doesn't contain so much violence on my opinion, just few episodes from anime... xD
Also... Higurashi is my second anime on this category so... ;3 I just love it.

I felt the same way after finishing the Gantz anime. Then I read the manga and my mind changed completely. Shigurui had some violent stuff in it.

I get why people like it, but I don't get why it's always recommended as a violent anime. It's basically Twilight or a harlequin romance novel with nudity and Invisible Flying Heads (tm). :/ Seriously, no jaded gore-lover is going to care about poor Nyu and that guy who was such a generic harem anime guy that I can't even remember his name.

Watch Tokyo Gore Police (live action) and report back please.

Hmmmmmmm anime - Elfen Lied, manga - Berserk and Doubt. Well maybe Doubt isn't as violent as other two but when i see this bunny killer... Haha it's pure. Especially when I listen to Rudimentary Peni - Zenophobia at the same time.

Anyway I'm looking for really violent manga/anime. Any recommendations? But You know, I don't want just Samurai-looking guy walking across the world chopping up people. It must be... atmospheric. Giggity, giggity goo.

I would agree, berserk is a great anime, but i wouldn't put down the manga entirely, I've been reading it all and am on the 35 volume right now waiting for more to come out and its actually much more graphic at some points and a lot of great battles are left out of the anime :P, not to mention the anime doesnt' even cover a third of what happened in the manga, plus, with all the extra story and character developement in the manga, it actually makes the battles seem that much darker.

yeppers in february will be the next book out here (germany) and i allready ordered it - hope itll be good.
but in the anime there is a lot of stuff you could have made different or darker like the first few minutes of the first episode (the black knight)
those are actually pretty awesome
but regarding the time when the anime was made i guess its ok - i would definetely like a new season though :)
