Spotlight Manga: Watashitachi no Shiawase na Jikan

MAL Manga Information Page: Watashitachi no Shiawase na Jikan

MAL Score - 9.07 (by 1130 users)
Ranked - #4
Popularity - #358

For the next week I would like to have a discussion about the manga that focuses on the key elements that we here on MAL use to critically rate a manga: Art, Characters, Story, and Enjoyment.

I would like everyone to approach this thread as if you were going to write a review and structure your initial post like this:

Art - insert rating
Characters - insert rating
Story - insert rating
Enjoyment - insert rating

Art - discuss any pros and cons of the art styling used in the series, try to include some specifics.

Character - describe any of the things you liked or didn't care for in regards to specific characters in the series

etc...

If you are having trouble writing up a review or coming up with specific pros and cons, please don't worry. Just do the best you can with it and if you can only write two or three sentences about any of the 4 elements then that's OK. Not everyone here is currently at a level which will allow them to articulate their thoughts and opinions.

After your initial post is made you can feel free to civilly discuss issues of contention. I am sure there will be many opinions expressed here that some of us will disagree upon and criticise and it is for that reason that this entire club exists. So I hope everyone has fun and I am really looking forward to seeing how this discussion will develop.

I had rather high expectations when I started the manga due to comments from other readers. Add to that being familiar with Yumeka Sumomo's pretty art.

8 chapters later, the only thing it had succeeded in doing was making me feel more jaded than usual. The drama's not too bad; at least it doesn't go overboard in the way that other manga/anime tend to do. Still, it's like the entire story's in perma-soap opera mode.

Art - 8
Characters - 5
Story - 6
Enjoyment - 2

I think I'll pick up Shikeisyu 42 again.

The main reason I picked this manga was the art and I enjoyed this manga on that regard but the story and characters are not on the same level as the art. The story is fine but depends on coincidence way too much and characters are not that great. I rarely read manga but as inexperienced with manga as I am, I don't think this manga managed to be something exceptionally good.

Art - first of all, I'm a big fan for Summo's art. The way she draws the emotion in the face reached my heart. And I know some people say her art is uncompleted! I don't Know why but I think it's the best way to draw a manga like this.

Character - Imagine in only 8 chapter what she did with the main character. The way they develop feeling to each other and how she turned them from suicidal women and criminal on death row to two people fall in love in living. I really loved the character development.

Story - Greatness, beauty and sorrow in 8 chapters, even though I knew that in the end he'll die. I couldn't hold my tears, the story tell us how someone suffer from their past even the regret doesn't erase what they did.
I really hope I find the english version of the novel.

When I started this manga, I was totally unimpressed and becoming slightly nauseous. I expected yet another typical dumb drama with contrived circumstances. To an extent, that's exactly what this was. But, it turned out better than I expected.

Overall I think this was a fairly generic story with the characters likewise being somewhat bland. However, I can't deny how much was accomplished in so few pages compared to other manga.

So final score of 6 from me and a positive impression...but unfortunately I didn't see anything special enough about this for me to bother recommending it to someone else, so that means a no vote from me.

Based on BM's reaction I wasn't sure what to think of it. But considering it is based on a south korean book, I expected melodramatics to the max...

And that's pretty much exactly what it was. From the beggining I could figure out where the story was headed, but even still, the characters had me hooked and I was in tears by the end. There is definitely some hidden magical formula SK has for being able to make people cry, whether it be a romcom movie, melodramatic drama, or mangas inspired by their novels. Now I'm going to have to check out the movie adaptation, since I love the two main actors.

definite yes for me.
