I see your point NU, the HDM books do have a pretty complex philosophical aspect to them, but's that's probably part of the reason I like them. It's one of those books which has 2 levels- one level for children and another for adults, something I don't imagine easy to pull off. Pullman was inspired by William Blake and John Milton though, so it was likely some of their complex ideas helped make his own work more complex. Milton wrote Paradise Lost which deals with both 'falls', that of the fall in heaven of Satan et al (heh I've never before written et al outside of a sociologial context) and the fall of Adam and Eve, ideas both in the books. The Blake influence is more obvious, Blake was known in part as a critic against hierarchies of churches and organisational evils, whih is pretty obvious in HDM.

I'm currently reading Rant: An Oral Biography of Buster Casey by Chuck Palahniuk. I just started reading an hour ago, so I'm only about a chapter or to in.

Before that, I read Fight Club also by Chuck Palahniuk. I just finished reading that yesterday.

Wit- Very good choice with Good Omens- it is one of the 4 best books I own, nice one! Twilight- is it any good (Mandalorian) ? I've only read the original trilogy (that is episode 4-6 in book form) and a trilogy set directly after that. I've bene thinking of getting some Star Wars books, I could do with another charity shop run lol.

Oh man, I discovered it when I was 12 (I'm 24 now). I've read it like, 20 times since. Not even kidding. It's such a wonderful book (even if it's all about loli).

Yeah, he really does make that obvious, what with the head diety actually being a jealous, megalomaniacal angel and all, lol.

Great book, very elegant writing and gripping plot. Must-read for samurai fans. Have you read the next two in the series? I'm going to read the last two one of these days, but the first was the best! =3

Also waiting for the next Twilight book (I had to see what all the fuss is about and now I'm hooked. I don't usually read YA, but Meyer is just that good; her characters are mature and the drama is not too exaggerated; couldn't get into The Host though) and Lynn Viehl's next book. That'll teach me to start an unfinished series. x.x

The Doomsday Book, editted by John Morris, the Sussex segment thereof.

Regarding books that are actually somewhat interesting to speak of, I just finished Jim Butcher's Death Masks and am starting on Grave Peril... because reading books in order would just be silly.

After that I have three Torchwood books that have been sitting on a shelf since my birthday that I need to read (Trevor Baxendale's Something in the water, David Llewellyn's Trace Memory and Gary Russell's The Twilight Streets)

Books, books, books. I ravage books. Well I used to. Havent read regularly since 2006 or so, but I plan on putting anime aside next year and concentrating on books again.

I have so many to get through, there's a bunch staring at me right now. Pratchett, George R. R. Martin, Greg Egan, Mars trilogy by Kim Stanley Robinson, Raymond E. Feist... not to mention a billion other books that arent staring at me, from Dean Koontz, Arthur C Clarke, Asimov, etc, etc (as you can tell I'm on a fantasy/sci-fi trip at the moment...)

Dont even get me started on non-fiction.

*siiigh*

Lately though I have managed to fit in two books, from two authors I always rush to read when they come out with a new one:

Andy McNab - Crossfire
Lee Child - Nothing To Lose

I love these kinds of books, where there's research and life experience put into them and you as a reader learn many new tricks and tips on how to survive in dangerous situations. I cant tell you how many things I've learnt in McNab's novels...

He was, but Dorian Gray was not his best work by far. His wit really shines in Importance of Being Earnest, etc.

Now reading Sebastian by Anne Bishop. Much love for fantasy, lol, (and, apparently, female authors, although Bishop isn't one of my favorites). xD

Currently I'm reading Lullaby by Chuck Palahniuk. I plan to read all his works eventually, and I already have them all purchased.

I think Chuck is a great author. I love his writing style the most out of all I've read. The books start off slow and then quickly pick up pace where you're dying to read more. Usually he has you asking lots of questions even after finishing the book. I love that :).

Any other fans of Chuck?
