THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.

hmmm they skipped whole one chapter of the novel about "inappropriate" books and their influence on the juvenile crimes, and shorten the description of the "Nightmare in Hino Library" to just few seconds. If they don't provide any controversial topic of the censorship, Toshokan Sensou will be an empty action anime.

It was OK overall, had action scenes and drama and stuff,
but true it feels like something... don't know what it is.. but something is missing. hmm

.....lol but dtshyk, I think in this forum we should kinda ignore the differences between original and the anime.. :P

I don't complain this much if it's not "Toshokan Sensou". This title is special. The novel criticizes the censorship policy of the mass media, especially the TV media. If the TV media alters the story of the novel, it simply means they refused to answer the questions the author posed. The topics of discussions in the novel are such delicate matters that the TV media had avoided to mention. Production I.G. should have made the OVA instead of airing this if they have to care so much about the main sponsor of the "Noitamina" anime, the Fuji TV.
In Japan, the censorship is done by the media itself and it's quite rare that the government does the censorship-like activity because it's prohibited by the constitution. So the "Media Improvement Committee" is the metaphor of the censoring activities and the hunting for the politically incorrect words done by the mass media. I was quite curious about what the anime would be like because "airing Toshokan Sensou anime on TV" alone is challenging thing considering the story of the novel. The anime production committee had surely puzzled with the fact that this novel is about themselves. So far they omitted all the political discussions and made it simple entertainment. I will be disappointed if this is their final answer to the novel.

well, but at least you convinced me now to read the novel, which was only possible because the anime aired, and so i had the chance to read this post ;)

on topic: quite nice episode imo, even though a little more background would really be nice :/ theres enough action out there, but too little story.

Enjoyed the episode. Ending definitely left me hanging for me even if I saw it miles away.

This series is great. Love the realistic portrayal of battle scenes, they seem intense without being overly dramatic.

As for the overall theme of TV censorship not being accurately portrayed... I don't think it really matters, to be honest. I mean, I agree that TV censorship is often excessive and unnecessary, but I think it's perfectly acceptable for the anime not to cover that material. It's certainly awesome enough by itself.

I also agree there should be more background story and they should explain things with more info but it is enjoyable and the way they've doing it is entertaining so i liked it

I saw it coming, too.

Episode was good, but I really think the whole fighting was kind of unrealistic and ridiculous.

Normally I don't mind (un)realism too much, but it's really not possible that there are only wounded and nobody died. This anime should tell clearly if it wants to be taken serious or not.

This is a bit off the point, but please excuse such descriptions. There is an agreement that both Library Forces and Media Improvement Forces have to use soft jacket bullets and must avoid killing the enemy as much as possible.

I really didn't want to say, that I like it if there are ppl killed, but it was disturbing to me that everyone survived in that random gunfire.
Thanks for your info (as always ^^). That makes sense then and it's really bad that the anime doesn't tell such important details. I knew that the Library avoided killing, but I thought the other faction is not so merciful, because of that Hino Nightmare, but these were hired mercs, right? So both sides should not kill anything. If they do, is there a punishment?

Yes, that's their aim. Attacks made by those extremist are not restricted by the agreement. Media Improvement Forces must not shoot the noncombatants like normal librarians, but the extremists killed them in Hino Nightmare.

Police doesn't intervene even if soldiers are killed in the battle. They are regarded as the war dead. And Media Improvement Forces are responsible for securing the battle area so that no citizens get involved in the battle.

Saw that coming, seriously, it was pretty obvious.

Decent episode though. This isn't one of my favorites of the season, but it's decent.

A bit weaker than the first two episodes because there was no character development and very little explanations about the whole concept and background behind this title, as dtshyk (who seems to know Toshokan Sensou pretty well) says. Something is really missing, and that's too bad because apart from that, this anime is really good.

Yeah, thats what the anime feels like for me at the moment. I just cant get behind the entire premise of this show because they havent introduced me to the world properly. Its not paced appropiately, so I'm just not taking any of it seriously right now, just enjoying I.G's animation and thats it.

This is just ridiculous really, its basically all action right now, they are hardly giving us any in-depth information. Doesn't help that the concept is ridiculous itself (even if it is really unique).

Oh well, whatever. Onto next episode~

HAHA... it is an obvious cliffhanger since kasahara has been failing almost every time and its only 3 episodes. But anyways the war aspect was a little more acceptable this time around.

Or every thing? and the ppl use Library so often and battle over books, how about Internet? Well don't need to explained every thing just the outer line..i agree with older post need more background story

I really don't get the rationale behind using the plot that they are using . . . I mean the series is overly ridiculous. It has funny moments, but why bother having a plot at all at this point? It's too ridiculous to have an actual plot.

As far as this goes, the rationale and backdrop behind the Media Cleansing Act is yet unfulfilled, and I am unsure whether at this juncture we are supposed to know it soon or just roughly assume it, like honestly. Well, I.G just wanted to skim through this anime (sadly), given that it has only 12 episodes and a movie. I hope they can tone down on the romance for this anime (not a romance-hater myself, in fact I welcome them), and focus much more on the background over the course of this anime. Isn't it ridiculous to actually fire live rounds on people just because they carry books which can only slightly alter people's train of thought? Ludicrous indeed.

There's a lot of action and romcom elements to this show, but after reading on the parts that were cut out, this anime is a lost opportunity for some heavy discussions. Then again, it would be extremely controversial to air an anime on television that criticisms the censorship of public media. I'm quite interested now in reading the original novels, and perhaps the manga as well for comparisons. But, for now, I'll continue watching the anime, as it provides its own form of entertainment.

The question isn't "What anime do you like?" That is merely a list.

Another solid episode but I do also feel like there should be some more world building surrounding the censorship itself and tackle some more challenging themes surrounding it in the world of books and media. I'm enjoying the characters, the animation's nice and the story has a cool premise but it does need some extra world building just to flesh the story out even more. Kasahara is in a dire situation though, as her escort duty has taken quite the twist given how enemies are present at the funeral too and she doesn't have much backup at the helm currently.
