Wow.. What a story. Truly a one of a kind anime. I'm not sure if I liked the cliffhanger ending or not. I'm curious about the fate of Johan - Since the window was open and the hospital bed empty, it makes me believe he killed himself in the end, but I'm not sure what to think.
I wanted to know the real names of Nina and Johan too...

I'm glad it was a happy ending. Tenma was cleared of all charges, Nina graduated from school, Runge got in touch with his daughter and became a professor at a police academy..
I'm really sad that Grimmer had to die though. He was my favorite character from Monster. I was shocked to find out that Roberto was his childhood friend from Kinderheim too.

I'm drawn between giving Monster an 8 and a 9 for the final score..
Even though I thought it was too long, slow and almost boring at times the story kept me hooked and interested enough to watch it to the end.
It had really good animation with a realistic and dark style, the sound and voice acting was good and there were many interesting characters.

9/10

You have got to be FUCKING kidding me.... I didnt just finish a 74 episode long series to end up with a goddamn cliffhanger... and a massive one at that... curses, couldn't they use just one or two of that huge string of fillers to give a proper ending to this anime?
I'm annoyed now, really I am...

Well I enjoyed that ending, and the series overall. While its a fact that most cliffhanger endings annoy me, this one didn't, and it felt alright with me. I like an ending that leaves some things for you to decide, and Monster did just that.

Overall, some minor things about the series bothered me, but nothing so horrible that it overcame the overall enjoyment. I cant honestly give it anything less than a 9/10.

When I first watched Monster 2 years ago I really liked it but now after 2 years and re-watching it I really LOVED it. The characters of the show are well defined and are so real that you can live with them. This is one of those rare anime that, apart from some very short moments, feels and stays realistic and that's a winning factor for the amazing thriller plot.
I loved how this anime analyzes human behavior and human nature without trying to pass judgment on every single character. In the end many of the characters stay gray. They are not either pure white nor pure black and that realistic approach makes them lovable and more importantly believable.

I really loved how this anime has an open ending. It suits the plot the best.

I can't get why isn't this at least top 2, and how is people giving this less than 10/10.

Finally finished it. It dragged in some bits but Wow! A great saga. First time I've seen a TRUE horror story. Especially loved the ending, except for those final 20 seconds where Johan presumably escapes from the hospital.

Seriously. That was awful. It would've been perfect if they had ended it with Tenma walking away, leaving the so-called devil to his sleep. But instead they tacked on that extra cheesy little bit, just like a question mark after the "the end" screen. Completely unnecessary. Kinda ruined it.

Still, an amazing series overall. 10/10.

Quite the perfect ending, although there are some things such as the tape recording that Johan dubbed over that I wished had more detail. I would have liked to hear the entire interview of Johan at Kinderheim 511.
This. I really would have lived to listen to the whole interview too.

The scene at the end with the twins and their mother literally sent chills down my spine. Johan's question at the end was also really amazing.

Easily a 10/10 and faves.

My main problem with assholes like Hias is that they pose as if they're heroes

This anime has made me lose so many hours of sleep! Especially the last 15 or so episodes have kept me awake till the wee hours of the morning until I could no longer see the screen due to blurry eyes. I am sad it's done though, it feels like a whole 6 months of my life has ended with it!

My theory on Johann dressing as a girl, was because he thought that they (he and anna/nina) were one and the same, they were one person and so he became Anna/Nina by dressing the same as her. That's why he took on her memories and her time at the Red Rose Mansion as his own. If they were the same person, then they both experienced it.

Well, I give it 9/10, cause I have never given anything a perfect 10... but it came pretty damn close! And now I need some much overdue sleep!

Fantastic series, pure genius. 9.5/10

Pros: Best storyline of any anime, fantastic characters all round, great drama, great suspense, animation wasn't over the top in anyway and the sound was good.

Cons: While the beginning, middle and end were nothing short of genius there were chunks of episodes that were a bit slow-paced for my liking and overall, it was fairly ambiguous.

2 words: Epic Masterpiece. There should be nothing below this rank to rate this series. An unique experience, unique characters, unique; In terms of plot, storyline, music, ambience and artwork.

I noticed; we even knew some of the kids that were at 511 Kinderheim, Roberto, Grimmer and Johann who didn't get too many timescreen, I still can't believe it how they made such a successful character with just a few screentime, Im not even taking in consideration that hes one of the main leads.

I loved how this anime analyzes human behavior and human nature, its flawless and subtle mysterious touch is just beyond words, I loved how many times Monster left me on my seat waiting like an asshole for answers; cliffhangers? Bloody hell, Madhouse sure knows how to give us a friggin' good and anxious episode without telling us much whats going on.

This can't be rated below 10. This is getting a 10 from me. Brilliant.

This comes from someone who gave The Melancholy Of Haruhi Suzumiya a 10? The most overrated, super ambiguous series with something that can't even be described as a cliffhanger for an ending it was so pointless. There was no cliffhanger in this series and anyone with a sliver of sense could see that. Also, the anime was made after the manga finished so there are no fillers. Get your facts right before you spout nonsense.

And this comes someone from is giving a 10 to one of the most xenophobic and disgustingly homophobic concepts ever; One Piece, its about a guy who has a tiny dick and makes up for it by beating homosexuals with his elastic arms; Typical trash. Not counting the fact that your favorites are shonens. That says a lot.

You shouldn't judge him for giving whatever rating he gives to a series, thats his opinion, I don't really know why butthurt faggots care what others think about your show seriously.

Anyways not going beyond this anymore, Im still impressed with Monster, the shrugs comes to me when I think about it.

Aaaagh, I didn't realize Grimmer and Roberto were buddies from 511 Kinderheim until I read through the replies here. Man, I hate it when the facts hit you too late.

About the series in general, I loved everything about it all through the time I watched it, ultimately thinking this was probably going to be one of my favorite anime of all time. I'm still soaking in the ending, I was expecting something completely different and it was so crazy and ambiguous and wow. Tenma is such a badass, he doesn't even have to be one of those cold hard heroes to be one. And Johan, the perfect monster for a villain. Hell, all the characters were portrayed in such a dark and realistic fashion, they made me feel utterly engrossed within the series. This really was a masterpiece through and through, 10/10 without a doubt.

I felt great sadness when Grimmer was killed, he was such a good character, when Tenma was in the hospital with Johan, it was a very delightful scene, because after all that happened and Tenma's adamance to kill "The Monster" he was poignant when he met Johan.

The hulucination was very eccentric, as he was talking normally then all of a sudden Johan was up. I suppose it all fits in with the kind of story created. The ending was left ambiguos, but that was very relevant to the series as there needs to be kept that mystery aura around it! Overall 9/10.

After completing the Monster anime, just like most of the people here, i googled like crazy to find an answer to the unanswered twists.
There was a question i came across repeatedly people askng, i.e, Why was johan dressed up a little girl?
Well, if u remember the time when Tenma was inquiring about the mother and her twins in the Three Frogs, the old man said there were never twins, it was just a mother and a child. The mom dressed Johan up a girl to avoid detection by the Czech secret police after running away from them, but sadly, it did not work out.
One more thing, the reason Johan went bonkers and killed all those middle aged couples was probably because when he saw his mother choosing one over the other, he stopped trusting everyone and killed them before they could inflict such pain to him...wat do u people think? I kept thinking what the reason could be and came up with this..
In one of the ending eps, nina was scared tht johan would remember one particular horrible memory .. what was it? His mom choosing them?
Was the experiment about destroying emotions? What was Johans big plan? What did he want to accomplish by the perfect suicide? And how did the kids read Franz bonapartas books? Did they attend any of his book readings in the red rose mansion?
Kindly help!! I am losing sleep over this one!
An awesome anime, cant believe its over already! 11/10!!!!
