I personally prefer the series...but in the manga there are couple of things that are also very cool. I'm really hoping that they'll make Second season.

both manga and anime... but the manga is much more exciting and gory. also the anime displays only small part of the story, the real thing starts first after Kogan's death.

I would not read the manga if the anime covered the whole story, but unfortunately it doesnt, so im forced to read the manga cause i cant just leave it now.
Main reason id stick to the anime in this one is that I just LOVE the way swords are drawn in it, I love katana in general, and the way they are drawn in this anime is a significant part of why i gave it a 10, not to mention, fights are always more exciting and clear in motion

Anime did the best work introducing us to the manga. I personally was amazed from the very first minutes of the first episode.
Manga, though, has it's moments, too. There are scenes that were unfortunately not animated, though they did fit the time period of the series. For example, the Futawa, dancing with swords, which I think is an amazing sight (chapter 22).
I'd prefer the manga to be released faster and hopefully seeing a continuation of the series.

The anime series, by default. I've only read a few pages of the manga, but those I have read are gorgeous.

Definitely the anime. Whoever directed the anime was just a genius. The visual effects are just so INTENSE. When that x-ray effect comes on! I mean, did you see them transform Seigen into a dragon?? Or the perfect way they captured the final clash of swords between Kogan and Irako??

And then there's the audio! The soundtrack for the anime is just so ominous - it really sets the mood for the action. The manga just can't incorporate sound so it obviously can't compare in this regard.

Best animated piece I've ever seen no contest. I just wish there were more. Sadly all I can do is watch it over, and over, and over, and over again. And over.
