THIS IS A MANGA ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS ANYTHING BEYOND THIS CHAPTER.
----------------------------------------
The last published book, a collection of short stories...

Once again, the book delivers... Even though there are 5 unrelated (almost) stories, each of them had its unique charm....

The first deals with Taiki's journey to Ren, where he meets Renrin and the king of Ren. Once again, the king of Ren is a rather weird character as well....

The second and third one are partly shown in the anime...but reading them provided much more political and social details on the world of 12 Kingdoms....

The fourth was the longest... and the most intriguing. It deals with the end of of the reign of the King of Sai. The shitsudo that drove Sairin to delirium/madness was really really painful to see. And this is also the first time a kirin has shown hate... In fact, it has the saddest ending of all, as the king essentially suicides after killing his father and his brother and realizing how low he has fallen....

The final one was really ominous for some reason. The Prince of Sou and the King of En meets each other incognito (even though they each guessed the others' identity) and discuss about the rise and fall of kingdoms. Interesting to point out that both have met more than once before and in different kingdoms for a span of more than a mortal lifetime. So both knew each other were immortal....It was ominous because they discussed how nothing is eternal, even the reign of Sou and En....and how they could envision the king of En destroying his kingdom when he gets bored (lol I can so see that happen)

Finally, in the last story, we see some hints on how strange the kingdom of Ryuu and Kou have fallen. Rikou doubts that maybe something was wrong with the youma....It was in fact a hint to future plot devices....and I really like Rikou from this book and Tounan no Tsubasa....

Please let Ono-sensei write more short stories so they can be published in a book format once again....There are currently TWO short stories not published in book format. One release in 2008 and another in 2009. So I guess it's annual...

The endless debate between fans and haters. At one point, after spending a lot of time on MAL, you just realize it's totally pointless.

On MAL, everyone who has used the lame rating system becomes a critic and an intellectual by default, haven't you heard?

I loved these short stories. I certainly hope I'll be able to read the new unpublished ones sometime soon.
