Um am I wrong or is Singapore Media Development Bureau contributing more than The Agency of Cultural Affairs of Japan? Not sure if this shows anything serious... |

Ceska said: brono11 said: shouldn't that money go towards higher salaries for current animators?? How? By putting animators on government salary? Or by giving subsidies to animation studios? One makes fans watch the work of bureaucrats, the other sounds like European unemployed programs. Not sure I'd be all too happy about either. What plenty of people here seem to miss is that the government doesn't pay animators, nor does it set the wages for them. That's the responsibility of unions and employers. And even if said money would get to subsidies for animation studios, who says they'd go to animators wages? I'd rather the government kept out of such decisions and spend money were it is supposed to, like education of its citizens. Which is exactly what this report states. So, in my eyes commendable. Erh, I would like to ask about " I'd rather the government kept out of such decisions and spend money were it is supposed to, like education of its citizens. Which is exactly what this report states. So, in my eyes commendable." Subsidies for certain sectors of the economy is really important, especially 1 that is a unique trait of their society. The government SHOULD intervene when there's a need. And please spare a thought for animators as well, I do believe they do work quite hard for quite little cash. And most importantly, spending cash where it's supposed to... have you heard about the "bridges to nowhere"? Go do a google search. I'm not implying anything. |

I think this isn't count as bad news, it's like giving chances to the next generation to develop and to create better shows. I'm looking forward to the production~ |

Well, they're going to help getting more employees this way, so it helps. If there's only a few people in the business, but they're all being paid well, we aren't really improving, as less people are entering the industry. We can't just say "Fuck you" to the employees, but we can't blow all the money on them either. The next benefit should go to the already hired employees though. Modified by _Me_, 12-31-99, 11:59 PM |

You can't live in Japan with a job at 3$/h and I also beleive that there is a minimum salary there, ![]() |

If there is a "$3/hr" quote going around, I'm sure it would be due to a fact like this: Each animator was paid a general stipend for their work. The animators, working hard and doing their best, spent many hours on their work. When it came down to it, then, the stipend divided by the hours was $3/hr. This is probably how it went down if that is true, at all. |

As fire boils around me, I press forward, winds and lightning lashing my wings. I am no match for what I face. Yet I will not back down, and though fear may place it's stranglehold on my heart, courage will see me through. With tears in my eyes, I hit full throttle. My engines become an inferno, and my weapons light up, awaiting my command. If I die tonight, I will do so fighting for everything I believe in." ![]() |

But hey, let's concentrate on the now and get fucked over when the current workers die and/or retire right? brono11 said: Ever heard of something called "the future"?shouldn't that money go towards higher salaries for current animators?? Seriously though, I hate people who fail to see the bigger picture. Whatever they can do stimulate the stagnant japanese anime industry is a good thing. There's been too much outsourcing lately. |
