I've been meaning to get around to watching this anime as I've heard so much about it for a long time, but I wanted to get some opinions on whether or not to watch the dub.

I've heard from some people that the dub is really well done, but I also have no problem with subtitles (in fact I prefer them in a lot of anime). But when the english dubs are done well then I do enjoy watching those.

So, anyone know which is better?

If you're going to watch the dub don't go into it expecting like FMA, or cowboy bebop. That being said its good enough where I still enjoyed it, but like most anime the sub is better.

English dub is bearable, but I think you know the right answer - jap dub, eng sub ftw!

Cowboy Bebop dub was good?!??! Well I dunno about series but the movie dub was horrible I couldn't watch it more than 5 minutes. I can never understand ppl who like dubs, to Americans it's such a big deal to read subs. :/

English dubs never quite catch that right spirit and enthusiasm the Japanese original catches. Just my experience :)

Agree, though I enjoyed the dub of Berserk and some of the dvd outtakes are pretty funny. ^^

I'd say dub, it's perfectly watchable. Although the animation is another matter. The first episode is really bizarre and the colours are all a bit off. But anyway...

I'm probably the only person I know who prefers dubbed animé. I suppose because I don't pirate animé and generally only know of the poor quality subtitles on dvd releases - which remove the wit and life from dialogue - then I prefer dubbing because it's more human. Take Trigun for example, the dubbing is good, Vash's voice is just right for his character, but the subtitles are awful and remove all the funny parts.

Also, Japanese voices sometimes grate a bit. There's only so much 'kawaii' a guy can put up with.

I generally don't watch dub series, this was my first. However, I really enjoyed it and managed to get over the "10 year old" series factor fairly easy. It was alot less annoying like most of the dubs you hear these days

From watching the first episode, I thought the dub was perfectly tolerable, but I prefer the Japanese after watching episode 2.

It's not like we're watching Berserk for the dialogue, right? :)

I'm used to Japanese dub and watched Berserk with English subs.
This is most convenient for me. Of course Pollish subs would be great too.

Uggh, I hate these "Subs, always" trolls. What's the point in posting in a sub vs. dub thread if you're a sub only watcher? Thanks for undermining the validity of the results, morons.

Sorry for reviving an old thread, but does anyone (who enjoys both subs AND dubs) have an opinion on the topic? I'm keen on watching Berserk myself as soon as I finish up my current anime.

I'm surprised at how quickly people are dismissing the English dub.
It's pretty good, especially Gutts' and Griffith's voice. Honestly, yes I started with the English dub but really, it's worth watching. Plus, sometimes you just want to chill and watch everything instead of reading the whole thing. I think that's alright.

I can't believe the fucking poll results. Anyone here who voted for the subs is just being a fucking weeaboo faggot a this point. The subs versions was one of the most miscast and awful voice acting I have ever heard. Guts sounds like a teenage pussy, and nothing like a warrior. Griffith sounded generic and everything was just completely off. Also this is set in Middle Ages EUROPE. Who the fick speaks Japanese during the Middle Ages. Completely kills the whole vibe and atmosphere. Sub purists are a bunch if fucking morons.

Stick to watching your high pitched voice moe shit weeaboo scum.

I actually really liked both, but if you have to ask you should just go with which ever one you feel comfortable with and don't just force your self to watch it, and if you turn out to be a sub person, please don't be a dick about it.

The dub. Guts' voice could not possibly be a better fit. He has this growly manly tenderness that works well both with his rage and more intimate scenes with Casca. Griffith and Casca also fit their roles like a glove. I was SO HAPPY that they kept the TV dub cast where possible for the movies. That alone just goes to show how much fans like the dub.

...OH, AND THE OUTTAKES! I just received my copy of the third movie, and it has outtakes for all three movies included. 60 minutes. Casca's voice actress is all kinds of crazy-funny. I also liked Guts' actor reacting to what he was seeing for the first/second time all WTF.
