the problem with this series IMO, is that the source material is great, but Shaft seems to lack the ability to properly pull of a gag series. their animation style is perhaps good for suspense, but in a different way than is needed to properly pull off gags. I thought it was funny when I first watched it, but when I was re-watching it, I realized that it was only due to the great source material and exceptional voice acting... as for their presentation of the series, I noticed it actively went against the proper execution of the comedy. If shaft had not tried implementing the style from bakemonogatari, then this would have been better. Still this is good, but I think having Shaft being the studio to do it was a mistake.

one thing that bothers me is that Nino is asking to be made to fall in love, yet all the fansubs I've seen translate that into her asking the main character to fall in love with her. There's a really big difference between the two in terms of showing Nino's character. The former sets her up as a person from Venus who wants to experience how people love on Earth, while the latter sets her up as someone self-centered who wants other people to adore her

I knew it was SHAFT's work the moment I watched the first few mins. Eccentric presentation, impactful scenes and amazing graphics.

But somehow it feels like the viewers have to be caught up in the pace of a pre-made storyline in order to enjoy the episode. Feels like gag humour, not very spectacular.

I love me some SZS, but some notable Shaft editing here and there got annoying..
Like the ECUs of his eye and the constant episode # cut ins.

The VA casting is quite good. Nino is probably the best thing this show has to offer.
The setting is zany and different, but unfortunately, I found a lot of the jokes to be dull.

I wonder how the plot for this show will unfold.

That was...what was that?

Hilarious, it totally caught me off guard.
I'll assume the writers and animators took hits of crack before getting to work on this.

Episode 1
I watched the first episode of AUB and it was pretty good. This anime promises to be a very interesting one. While watching it, I couldn’t help but be reminded of Bakemonogatari. There are various elements that are kind of similar between those two series, and since I did enjoy watching Bakemonogatari I will surely enjoy watching AUB. ^_^

That sure does change things, but perhaps another fansub group will correct the errors of its predecessors in time.

I love how even though the Main thinks everyone else is nuts. He's also got an eccentric personality, especially when his childhood is taken into account.

Typical Shaft. I like it.

Note for HoN players: The sound effect @ 1:25 is the sound effect for Puppetmaster's Ultimate. Just something I noticed =)

Hmm... Just randomly started watching this (raw) and thought it was just "okay"... I suppose the characters are intriguing, but nothing caught my interest too strongly. Nevertheless, I'll check out one more episode to see if something does interest me more...

^This--lol.

The Kappa bit was great.
I also giggled at the whole 'Sorry there's not much room...'/ 'If I roll over, I'll die!' exchange.

The last SHAFT production I watched, Dance in the Vampire Bund, was a pretty big fail, but other projects they've done have been a win... so I have high hopes.

God, that was hilarious. Particularly the Kappa scene, where I was thinking "so, the village chief is a Kappa, weirder things have happened in anime." But, then he turned around and he had a zipper and said zipper got stuck and the water poured out of him. I don't know why, but it cracked me up. I like the interplay between Nino and Recruit as well.

Ah it was the right choice to watch this.

So hilarious. Itoshiki's voice was almost straight up recognizable.

The animation looks a bit cheap though...
