Whoa! What an episode! I almost thought that Tenma was going to get caught.
Also, I loved the expression of Runge, and he did next, after getting stabbed by that guy =P

Runge is such a douchebag, I can't believe he still suspects Tenma after he saved his life. If he were really guilty, why would he save the life of somebody that's after him?

That Runge is disgusting and nuts. He is so emotionless that he could be the perfect murderer.-

A couple episodes ago, I said I thought there was something admirable and likable about Runge lol. I totally had him misjudged.

Runge is like Captain Ahab, and Tenma is his white whale. Nothing else matters to him anymore. I wasn't disappointed that he still suspects Kenzo of murder. I was more surprised that he said he didn't give a crap about solving the copycat murder. Now we know that Runge isn't particularly noble in his pursuit. He's just losing his sanity because Tenma is the one thing that's smudging his perfect record.

Not that I totally hate Runge now. I just see him differently, because he is kind of a douchebag, but he's still an intriguing character.

Man Lunge is so obsessed that it's kind of funny and I was not expecting him to be stabbed. It was a nice surprise. Lunge is still my favorite character so far ;P

Runge is the proper psycho here XD...he's so obsessed with his perfect record that he doesn't think for a second that he might be mistaken about Tenma.

Wasn't Runge fired? Or did I miss something. Anyway, I liked this episode. It shows Runge's obsession over Tenma. He is sacrificing his work, and other cases, even his career, by threatening that journalist, to catch Tenma. This psychological change in his mind, from a perfect detective, solving every case, to an obsessed psychopath just shows his fragility. Runge might not show any emotions to people around him, however, he is fragile inside. Runge is worried that he did not solve Tenma's case fully. Even if he says that he thinks he solved the case, and is sure that Tenma is the killer. There is a slight uncertainty deep inside him, that causes Runge to loose himself. His last words saying something like its fun to chase after a criminal like Tenma mean that he did not find any logical reasons why his theory should not be true. That makes him even more worried. (Tenma saving his life has nothing to do with it, because Runge's theory says that Tenma is a schizophrenic and cannot kill in his good state). This concludes to situation that Runge might go insane at the end of the anime, because it seems that Runge will only be satisfied when his current theory is proofed by Tenma's confession or logical denial. Since we know that the first one will never happen it leaves only logical denial. However, while logical denial will satisfy his Gregory House like riddle obsession, it will crush him for not solving the case himself. So, the only happy ending for Runge is if he solves the case before Tenma catches Johan.

I finally understood with this episode why the main character is a doctor.

It's an homage to Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, the doctor and the MONSTER. They are the same in that story... wait, maybe detective Lunge is right after all?

That would be interesting. But, considering the fact that Ana herself has met the adult Johann, it's all but impossible. Unless, of course if she was just seeing things. Also, the patient that was killed in front of Tenma by Johann early in the series definitely saw him.

The thing is, Johann himself has only been seen twice so far and there are many possibilities. So, who knows? I think Lunge is a bit of a Monster himself, actually.

Hmmmmm some parts are indeed left open/unexplained , those things kinda bother me. Where did Dieter go indeed, and also thought Lunge was fired and already off the Tenma case?
Also, shouldn't they protect crime scenes better? Tenma could just waltz in there, if Lunge really knew Tenma was going to be there why didn't he set up a better trap with more people

At first I thought that Runge was an ultra dedicated cop, but now I can see that he's just obsessed. He's become a fanatic who won't be able to fathom that the murderer is someone other than Tenma, even if Johan confesses in his face.

Don't underestimate Runge just yet. He is very obsessed to the point where there is nothing else in his life but don't ever think he is a fool. He's actually a pretty awesome character.

to have a theory is one thing but not investigate deeply all information is completely illogical ... he is so useless =/

Why has the criminal psychotherapist not brought proof that their really is a guy named Johann out yet, he has tapes, a crime scene and letters as hard evidence. ugh so annoying that the "smart" detective still hasn't realized that Tenma is innocent yet.

I think Lunge is in a downward spiral to crazyville. It's obvious he's good as what he does, but he's become so obsessed with Tenma I can see him self destructing at some point down the line. That scene with him hitting the side of the car with his bloody hand made me jump. Guy makes a good horror monster.

Lunge, enough said! This one was his show.

Though Tenma deserves an honourable mention once again for his deed, also his words on emotion... oh man.

I'm liking These 2 and of course Nina/Anna more and more every episode. I'm sure I'll like Johan a lot once he formally enters the fray too.

So hyped up for the future episodes... LUNGE!

Lunge episode yay!

About Episode:

Looks like Lunge wants to get a little popularity with that magazine thingy Hamburg Tag or whatever was that magazine name. That newspaper guy was just happy to get know something first haha. Lunge can be also put great act just speculating cases and using himself to act. So Lunges plan is to use neighbours to get Tenma that is low for detective. Lunge is missing really much here.

Oh man he can predict Tenma's movements haha :DD Woah that was bad so neighbour called Lunge and he came right for the door. And Tenma run away but Lunge followed him until that Jopps guy got Lunge and helped Tenma.

It looks like Lunge will now understand that Tenma is not suspect or not what the heck he is still suspecting Tenma??

Awesome chase-episode

It was really rare to see Runge's having facial expression when Tenma got away, turns out that he got stabbed in the abdomen area. His face was always blank like a white piece of paper.
And what the heck is Runge made of? He was still walking and talking like normal after getting major wounds that could cost his life? Why is Tenma so important to him anyways? I kinda suspected him being a cyborg or some sort, cuz he was always talking about using his fingers to send information to his brain.
Lastly, I think the "calm murderer", Runge was referring to himself, after attempting to shoot innocent Tenma with a straight face that is.

From what I've seen Lunge is kinda smart but why the fuck does he still think that Tenma is the killer he just can't admit defeat and the look in his face he really thinks he's correct but he's wrong and he looks like a criminal with that smug face.

Oh man lunge is such a intimidating antagonist, his sheere lack in empathy and threatening look is just great.

Dont get me wrong johan is great as the main villain, but this episode clearly illustrates how downright psychotic and dangerous lunge actually is due to his obsession with always being right.

Where was Deter (or however you spell his name) this episode? It's inconsistencies like this that really urk me. You can't just put in a side character that LIVES with the main character and take him out of the story whenever you want and only put him in when convenient. Bah...

Man, what an episode. It was great to see Lunge again, even though he's a threatening antagonist. For a straight-faced man man, he's fun as hell to watch.

I think this is the first time we see him pull a different emotion on his face, when he was stabbed by that guilty suspect.

But at the same time, what IF he saved him just to clear his name? There are so many what if scenarios. Hes an accomplished detective so hes probably already sold on his own stupid theory.

I can't stop watching...this is going to suck up so much of my time, at this rate :P

Fantastic episode. Lunge has really become fascinating now. It almost feels like his insistence that Tenma is the murderer is just denial of the facts. He's decided its Tenma, and that's that. I think the last part of the episode is the most intriguing, though. Lunge gets a thrill chasing after Tenma; it's 'fun.' Tenma has become his key to escaping his empty, lonely life.

Great stuff.

Lunge's character seems a lot different after this episode. He's become obsessed with Tenma and his own theory. Perhaps pretending to be his perception of Tenma has affected him psychologically? I've heard of actors irl having nightmares when playing a particularly evil character; it's certainly not inconceivable that those who try to place themselves in the mentality of such an evil mind could lose themselves to it.

The obvious problem is that he's become so sure of himself that he's no longer investigating properly. I think this is more of a twisted idealization of his idea of a "perfect opponent"; Lunge doesn't want the solution to be more simple; he doesn't want an actual Johan to exist, because an actual Johan would (perhaps) be less complex than his idea of Tenma. Tenma as Lunge sees him is the perfect enigma. Ironically enough, Johan himself seems to be showing signs of multiple personality disorder, meaning that Lunge would have been just as satisfied had he pursued the facts more diligently.

In any case, Lunge has become a lot more interesting and disturbing. I wonder how this will play out going forward.

Minor gripes: Why hasn't the psychologist come forward with his evidence? Also, where was Dieter in this episode?

Excellent episode overall, though.
