great first ep, but I heard this season will be 13 episodes only, that's a shame...

It's slated for 25 eps from all reported information so far. We'll see, though. I'm curious whether it's possible to get so many episodes out of 6 volumes, considering ep 1 was ~half of volume 7.

I remember why my reactions to the first season were so mixed, now. On the one hand, you have a luscious art style with dark supernatural vibes, as well as an intriguing plot, and on the other hand...

you have one of my least favorite main characters of all time. I freaking hate how he switches from "Himawari-chan~~!" to irritation at Doumeki every other sentence of every single episode. Seriously, enough is enough, and it looks like this season will follow the same pattern.

However, I will say that the plot of this episode was about as good as some of the best stories from last season, and the animation is better.

I think you'll find this arc is one of the key development arcs for Watanuki that helps him stop being such a dick to Doumeki. Plus Kohane is coming soon, woooo.

As someone said on LJ, Jun Fukuyama worried that it had been too long since he had voiced Watanuki, but he did a great job! Truly awesome! He's definitely the only seiyuu for Watanuki♥
But I'm sure he's gotta be super busy this season, voicing at least three other main characters

"Watch where you're flailing, idiot."
"Why are you getting friendly with the ground?"
I missed you, too, Doumeki, you are pure awesome♥

What a slashy beginning episode~~
It's great they begun with the spider arc, but what about all that happened between vol. 6 (in which the first season ended, if I remember correctly) and vol. 9 (in which what's happening now begins, if I remember correctly)?

The OP was great! Yuuko looked very purdy and I missed Suga Shikao as well<3
The ED song was okay, but those colorful Mokona were very interesting XD

And finally, Watanuki as Alice♥ *o* (who I just happened to see at Disneyland yesterday...!)

yay xxxHolic is back ^^ but now I am going to be creeped out by spider webs a lot more than usual lol. I still dont really like Himawari cuz shes still a bit of a ditz. I was pretty amused with the Alice in Wonderland thing lol

LOVED IT. I'm surprised they jumped into the heavy stuff right away! It's my favorite arc and I was disappointed they didn't do it last season xD but yay!
Ah Doumeki. I love you so.

I just saw the first episode and I don't remember the last time I got so excited about an intro and a title screen in recent memory or if ever – it's not because of the song; quite frankly I liked the song for the first season better.

I internally rejoiced when I saw Kohane-chan, Shizuka Haruka (Domeki's grandfather), Zashiki and Ame Warashi, Kudakitsune and the list goes one. When I saw these quick scenes for the intro I knew instantly what this series is going to cover. I internally rejoiced once more when I saw the title of the first episode and I knew exactly which arc the series is going to start of with.

This is my one of my favourite arcs in the manga and I'm glad that I'm finally going see it animated. I'm also quite surprised at how many chapters it covered – I think they covered the majority of volume seven in just one episode! I'm also rather glad that the series thus far is rather faithful to the manga counterpart. Despite knowing what's going to happen in the next episode (from the manga), I'm still eager to watch it. ♥

The OP and ED weren't as awesome as the first season's, but they were still good. Definitely the best first episode of the Spring Season so far, but then again, I've only started the two Ecchi's and Itazura No Kiss in the last 36 hours.

I laughed so much at Mokona at the beginning. That thing's cuteness never ceases to amuse me.

Can someone tell me where abouts in the manga we are, chapter wise?

Hmm... not entirely sure, but I think it's around 155 or something. This website is rather up-to-date with the latest scanlated chapters. Hope that answers your question. =)

This first episode was half of volume 7. The other half of volume 7 was the haunted photo arc from the end of last season.

Very good start, kei is even better than the first season for now.
