I must say that the first half bored the hell out of me, but the 2nd half was pretty good.
Lets see how this anime turns out =P

I thought that it was pretty cool, although I recognize Shu's voice from Yu-Gi-Oh which kind of annoys me. Oh yeah, and going through the tube at the end reminded me of Star Wars.

Oh My god! This kid's "Action-hero-ness" makes Harrison Ford's Indiana look like a wimp! His "Go with the Flow" may not work in Kendo, But it kicks butt.

Brilliant series. I mean I'm only going to episode 6 and I'm loving it. Why are the topics seperated by episodes though? It would be far more interesting to discuss the series as a whole and not an episode specificly.

^It's for spoilers and such. For big series people make 'entire series' discussions too for a precise subject/question and such.

I remember watching the first 5 minutes of this episode on more than one occasion the last 7 months and never actually watched more, since it was plain boring and I didn't like the character. I've finally re-watched it + the rest of the episode, and I'm liking where it's headed a lot now, great surprise.

I loved the shot of the sunset with the main character just hanging there and looking at it, that really made the perfect ending for a first episode.

This was a really cool first episode. I loved when they were just sitting on the smokestacks and he was talking as if it was completely normal haha, I am such a sucker for chance meetings that occur in weird places in animes.

At first not that interesting...but I started enjoying it (surprisingly) not when the action kicked in, but earlier, when they were chilling atop the chimney thingies. I loved the last shot with Shu just hanging there and his face changing slowly, and then the view... So far, so good.

the first half was ok, but the 2nd half was just much better. I can tell this is turning out to be a good show. The ending where hes hanging looking out in the sunset, in the world that he is now saying " where the hell em i" was an awesome ending and its from there that this show just really starts to pick up and shows the harshness of reality that this kid from a quite village has stumbled onto.

Felt like the beginning was a bit rushed, trying to compress everything into a few minutes to establish the guy. The second part was interesting, though it reminded me of Star Wars episode V a bit too much. 4/5.

Gonna stick and see if this turn out any good.

Pretty decent first episode. I have to give a shout out to the music, though. It does a really good job of setting the tone and I think gave a few of the scenes more of an impact that they would have had otherwise, such as the smokestack scene.

Not sure what I think of the protagonist, though.

Good start, I honestly was not expecting sudden action like that.
Hopefully I don't end up disappointed with the rest of the series.

I've been told this is a pretty good show. A promising start so far. I like the music and the upbeat MC.

Love the first episode, the world they are in is sick!

It's somewhat hard watching the male MC but he does have room to grow. Look forward to this series.

Hideyuki Kurata, my God my God my personal God.
The first half is so good for me. Got all the Kamichu flavor that I love. conversations, gentle music .... The thing about this writer is he writes dialogs so well, at least for me, so natural. I think Kamichu has one of the best script everrrrrr and this is going that way.
almost sad cuz this is not girl saturated as in Kamichu but the boy is just like the kid brother in that, soooo cute.
The second half feels like R.O.D., another series of his with plenty of action.

I really enjoyed this first episode! The smokestacks scene dragged a little bit but once the dragon robots showed up and the episode finished I knew I was going to like it!

It looks like this is an unpopular opinion in this thread, but I found this delightfully quaint until all the sci-fi shit. I'm interested, mind, but I loved the atmosphere it was building before that.

The protagonist (Shu?) is... buoyant, to say the least, but I really liked his vibrancy.

Looking like some post-apocalyptic shit judging by the cliffhanger... should be interesting.

Oh, and the ED is beautiful. n_n

Shu's either the luckiest kid in the world, or he's not human! He can survive practically anything!

Other than the art (which I'm not the biggest fan of) this was a pretty steller start to this series. And I'm looking forward to seeing where this goes!

Pleasantly surprised that the show began with kendo. I also appreciate the nicely done character introduction, we learn so much about Shu's character and his surroundings in just several minutes - from his actions more than his words, even. I even got scared a bit when he climbed that high xD

The fight scene was also well-executed and funny (reminded me of these games where you need to smack monsters appearing from holes with a hammer or something like that)

The episode concluded with a beautiful ED consisting, from what I understand, of real-life shots - a rare practice that I absolutely adore in anime.

Tadashi Hiramatsu and Masahiko Otsuka were responsible for this episode's storyboards and directing respectively. Gainax power!

P.S. Why are the guns tied with some thing?

Honestly this was a stunning first episode. People said it started slow but it makes the ramp up to the second half feel much more drastic. Even so the directing and composition are *chef kiss*. I don’t even see half as good coloring on most modern series. From the sunset to the white light orb teleport, it just looked good start to finish.

The base story is quite typical of all the hallmarks of influence but I think it has a lot of promise and I do like Shuu, he’s a good boy who thinks on his feet.

I went with the sub right away but I might switch to the dub, Shuu voice sounded a little too old in the dub where in Japanese the boyish shounen voice really suits his nature but it doesn't bother me all that much.

And I had heard of this show for years and somehow have never gotten spoiled for it, so I’m betting on this being a gem.
