This was amazing. I think that it will end up surpassing Zeta and Char's Counterattack (tied) as my favorite Gundam.

I like Banagher quite a lot and I REALLY like that they brought the Zabi princess back for this one. Seeing characters reappear grown up after several years is one of the best things about the Gundam franchise.

And this goes without saying but WOW was it visually stunning and full of intensity. Much like with Char's Counterattack, I was absolutely glued to the screen the entire time.

One word.... EPIC!! The whole time I was watching this, first thing in my mind "This is one of greatest Gundam OVA's I have seen so far..."

The Visuals are so vivid, highly detailed, immense atmosphere and character designs seem really retro in design but still great in this present time. The sound effects were also amazing. Bringing back the Gundam UC in a big amazing OVA as if they wanted to rebuild the universal century to us again.

I enjoyed the intense action, fight scenes and etc. But one problem I always have the same cliche Gundam does with it starting with a teen boy with unknown new type abilities and obtaining the power of the Gundam during a terrorist attack. : /

Overall it was great!

The plotline was confusing to me at a few points, but my experience with Gundam is limited to Wing and SEED, which I'm sure most fanboys consider the worst of the lot (and which I'm aware take place in completely separate universes than the UC one). The visuals, though, were absolutely amazing, especially the mecha fights. I acquired a Blu-Ray rip which was positively stunning in its quality, and to my surprise the English dub was actually rather well-done as well, especially for a production that must've been rushed.

I might go back and watch some of the older Gundam stuff, but I know in general what's going on in the worldline (and they did let us know the primary backstory in this ep anyway). Some of these characters I'm clearly supposed to recognize, but so far it hasn't really taken away from the enjoyment.

Moving onto the next episode, time to see the Unicorn kick some ass!

This anime has great production values, but that's normal considering it's Sunrise's very own cash cow. I got to say though that it's massively overrated. Good animation and music can only take the show so far, and I ain't sure where the plot will go BUT...

Banagher is the most uninspired protagonist so far. There's nothing interesting with this individual. The rest isn't much either who are just mostly copy pastas from previous UC Gundams. The best Gundam ova is still Gundam 0080 so far.

I had an eyegasm, the cliff-hanger was just cruel though. The design for the NZ-666 was just great.

Holy shit, this has to be one of the most epic mecha episodes I've ever seen. The last 10 minutes were just, wow. And the soundtrack. I'd be surprised if the later episodes could even match this standard of quality.

Well Chinese fans working on Gundam Mods for Homeworld made a NZ-666 model in 3D. Look at the movie quality work here:

It's decent. I hope the serie will be better than the god awful Gundam Zeta (I don't see what people like about it... worse, calling in it the best gundam lol)

THAT PRODUCTION -- MY EYES ARE BLEEDING. This went from "Wow, this is considered very good for 1970 or 1980 animation" to MY EYES ARE BLEEDING. I loved every bit of the soundtrack, too. It looks like the story won't disappoint, either. I can't wait for the rest!

Mecha fans are really split like this, if he thinks it's boring then that's fine. I think GC, TTLG and 00 are awful shows to but I know they aren't targeted at me so I just let them be.

That was awesome. The plot seems a little confusing to me since I have only watched 00 and just started Zeta. But this is very interesting and the overall quality seems amazing.

^considering the fact that the one who gave you such beautiful soundtrack here in unicorn was the same guy that made the soundtrack for that "overrated" show: Hiroyuki Sawano

Omg my eyes exploded!
My ears too for that matter.
There is something very VERY rewarding and satisfying about watching this new and high-budget animation after sitting through the old stuff for about a month non-stop.
My vision was already adjusting to the 80s animation. All of these shiny things caught me off guard.

Oh, I liked reading your comments on the Zeta discussion board, saw you there went I went to post.
But LOL I pretty much had the same reaction you did to this.

Really though, superb visuals and sound. I didn't expect anything less.
Intriguing start. No extremely annoying people yet so far which is an A++++.

I'm so glad I didn't watch this in '10 because it would have been such a pain waiting so long for the next ep.

I watched this right after watching msg->z->zz->cca (+ 08th ms team) for the first time.
So. Awesome.
Animation, music, everything basically.
My vision was, like parfaited's above, already adjusting to the 80s animation.

And then I watched the 1st ep (and 2nd + 3rd right afterwards) and actually got a bit teary-eyed simply because of how awesome this was. Rest of the time my ears & eyes were just trying to adjust to the awesomeness of this without exploding/bleeding/etc too much.

I don't even know what to say, this felt like watching Evangelion 3.0 for the first time. So I was basically watching 57 minutes of porn. This felt so rewarding and epic after skimming through the older Gundams.

I already like the hero and heroine, Audrey is kawai.

So looking forward to more.

UNICORN WAS BADASS

Oh and of course animation and music were godly

I can finally get their hands on Unicorn OVA ! * w *
Premise , I should read first before you see it and I should have a new smattering of Gudam universe , because when I saw the series , then a century has passed since then .
I remember little or nothing.
Not a bad start to the story , he was immediately catapulted into the live , do not miss the action , even there also too much , it is almost stunned by the power and by the sound of frantic battles and actions seen in them. Mecha really beautiful and well made , I do not know about the use of the CG if there is.
The narrative at certain points I can not afferarla well, maybe because I lack the basic foundation for understanding how to do Banagher Links.
Animations and sound really nice , I thought that the length of time of an hour would be long to digest, instead seems to have passed in a flash.
For now , my vote is on the work of 8/10 !

I can not wait to savor the next OVA ... Hooray !

Sweet mother of baby Jesus...That was pure mecha porn at it\s finest. The animation, designs, music were all sugoii. I also dig the old school haircuts.

Only thing that made me facepalm is that there's a character called Full Frontal! I mean, really?

Great first episode, I think I'm going to like this series. The MC really reminds of Amuro, but thankfully a thousand times less annoying.

Finally after finishing almost all of UC Anime Era works(besides Turn A Gundam) i finally started this :D

Man the OST is just pure bliss!!! So fucking good. It sounds like a grand battle is about to happen.

I was confused about the Anno Domini being reference in the first few minutes. I thought Gundam 00's era is separate compared to UC era??

Man the fights are really intense and very realistic. Even though i love Gundam 00 and is one of the best animated Gundams due to its fast paced battles. I also like the more realistic style Unicorn is showing. I thought RX-0 is going trans-am mode all of a sudden XD

Animation is godly as ever! Even better than Gundam 00 i think!

Link Banagher is cool. At least he isn't some whiny protagonist like we've been getting from other UC era works(looks at Amuro).

Maria Cruz looks amazing!! She's piloting Qubeley like Gundam.

And wow so Link's father died in front of him without him having a reunion of somesort. Kinda anti-climatic and out of nowhere that Link finds his old home and his father in it.

I expect lots of explosions, killing and deaths in the coming movies episodes ^^

Can't wait for the next episode!!

OH WOW! I don't even know what to say, that was so good and so well made. The high budget is put to a very good use.
I'm on the fence about Banagher, but he works well as an MC, so that's good. I feel really bad for/about his father, but at least they could talk to each other one last time.
Good plot, good mood, great animation, I have high expectations for the next episodes.

Edit: Just noticed something: "Aired: Mar 12, 2010 to Jun 6, 2014"
OMG that must have been awful to wait so long after such an amazing episode.

After CC decided to go straight into this despite having had decided to watch all the UC gundam in order of release

Animation/mecha porn is just a feast for my eyes, the OST for my ears as well.

Really interested in what the Laplace's Box is,and what it's contents are, especially considering it won't reveal it's contents for something as trivial as the revival of Zeon.

Marida is badass, any scene with her piloting Kshatriya 666=glorious.

Banagher "stealing" unicorn gundam, wouldn't be gundam unless some top secret mobile suit got taken by some random newtype kid on the very first episode lol.

Unicorn entering destroyer mode at the end was epic.

Very promising start for a series I'm expecting alot from, only slightly negative thing I can say so far would be Banagher,I don't think he'll grown on me as protagonist unlike Amuro,Kamille and Judau (hope I'm wrong about this though).

Nice. I wasn't lost while watching it and had no particular problem making sense of what was going on and who were the different factions at play. I'm also glad that this OVA series chooses to focus on Mineva Zabi, since her position as well as the glimpse of her personality that we managed to get this episode do seem to show a lot of promise. I'm mostly okay with Banagher, who doesn't look like he's gonna be nearly as troublesome as Amuro, Kamille or Judeau were in their time and has that hint of sensitivity that I'm really digging with my male protagonists.

On a technical level the episode was nearly flawless; I can't praise the staff enough for their superb work on the mecha animation, and the soundtrack really is Sawano at his best. It's too early to say anything else about how the story will go as we're still in the introductory phase, but I have to say I'm pretty excited for what's to come. Wonder what that Laplace box is though: probably something that has to do with Newtype awakening or something.

That was pretty ridiculous indeed. But I think that this could, to a certain extent, be explained by the fact that he's been on his own for the longest time and may find solace in the idea that his presence is needed somewhere. Kind of gives him some sense of belonging that he may have lacked as a teenager who grew up without his parents. Of course, this reasoning is delusional as can be but hey, he's a kid after all.

That could be helped a bit by some Newtype "connection" too? (at least, that is the only thing who came to my mind before the sense of usefulness)

For the Laplace box, since it predates the start of Deikun's belief, I am expecting something more about the colonization programm.
