i consider this series really great.....i mean i presume the storyline is also for itself...just i didn't quite understood some things like newtypes ( what type of humans exactly r they )
I also noticed it will have 6 eps :/ ... i noticed they r pretty long but still.....anyway i luved it and i hope for the best ........
p.s btw any1 knows when next ep is coming out ? :O

It's not a standalone OVA and to get some things you must know stuff from previous Gundams such as Newtypes, Zeon remnants

Here, I have tried watching this finally.

Oh god, it was even more terrible than i expected.

Its like on what would happen if Twilight ___th movie was a teen-soap-opera remake of Interview With Vampire.

Action and stuff going pew pew would have been nice if not for mediocre plot and constant "this is uc, watch eeet" stuff blown into my face.

If anything,a fter OVA1, my opinion stands - Unicorn is mediocre fanfic trying to cash in onto the whole UC fanbase.

UC ended with TurnA Gundam. Until tomino himself decides to do something in UC, UC will stay dead.

Turn A didn't take place during UC, it takes place during Correct Century. The founding of UC is really important in Unicorn and the plot will most likely thicken and get better in later episodes. Tomino will never work on Gundam again so its too bad for you, go back to watching Gundam 00.

TurnA takes place after and before all centuries :)

And if you expect plot from a fanfic novel that focuses on stuff going pew pew, sorry to disappoint you.

The action only covered about half the episode and the rest was setting the stage for the rest of the story. If I wanted pew pew i'd just watch 00 considering the writing is absolute shit and characters are dull.

So after all these years we finally get something from the time-line between Gundam ZZ and Victory Gundam other than the botched F91 series which became a film, and it's definitely awesome. They've finally given the Gundam neutral colours (OK it glows red but at least that isn't the paint job) like it was meant to from the start.

I'm sure that Miss 'Audrey Burne' is in fact Minerva Zabi too.

You know what came between ZZ and Victory. CHAR'S COUNTERATTACK. Despite the fact that F91 was botched it was still fairly entertaining and yes Audrey Burne is Minerva Zabi.

You know I was watching episode 1 and near the end, I was thinking to myself. This music sound a lot like it’s from Kishin Taisen Gigantic Formula and then I saw the 3D CGI Gundam transformation and said "OMG" that look just like Gigantic Formula 3D CGI mecha style. Just repaint the red with green and you get Gigantic Formula.

-Finally- got to see this at Otakon since I don't have Blu-Ray and wasn't desperate enough to download in the meantime. And it was... pretty awesome, worth owning, I'm not sure it was really -great- though. Maybe the dub didn't help, though for the most part the dub was perfectly competent, even good in parts I suppose. I think the old guys were more successful than Banagher was, but Gundam main characters are always hard to do convincingly in English, something that the director of the dub pretty much admitted in one of the Q&A sessions associated with the show.

Still, dub or not, I can't say the writing won me over particularly. It was a lot of talking about "The repercussions of what we're doing" without revealing -what- exactly that is, you know, your basic MYSTERIOUS POLITICAL STUFF. Likewise the idea that the Unicorn is somehow a "key" to something that could either destroy the human race or help them to reach their real potential as Newtypes... That's not very UC Gundam, you know? UC has doomsday weapons up the wazoo, but usually "the fate of the world" is only in the balance inasmuch as there's a -war- going on. I mean in CCA the plot revolved around actually trying to destroy the Earth and there was still no question that humanity would survive the war in some form.

So I guess my problem is that the writing doesn't feel much above the more recent Gundam entries--slightly overinflated/stereotypical, and lacking the subtleties you might hope to find in Tomino's stuff or the better entries that weren't by him. Still, the plot of this episode was pretty much solid setup, so it's possible that as the focus shifts onto characters more they'll prove to be deeper than they seem at a glance. In fairness, Tomino's characters never exactly leap of the screen in the first few episodes either... I mean, I have never shown Zeta to someone and had them take Kamille seriously from the get-go, so.

Action wise it was damn near perfect, though the sort of CG-look on the Unicorn (and... seemingly the Sinanju too, going form the previews?) is a little disconcerting. Maybe it'll work out better in context, but it seems a little jarring. The low-grav fight scene between Banagher and the Zeon team trying to retrieve Audrey was a lot of fun.

The most awesome part of seeing the show was undoubtedly the cheering when the Unicorn Gundam launched and then again when it transformed.

The most awesome part of the surrounding things was when the Sunrise rep who was there was asked (along with the dub director and the girl who played Audrey) what character he'd like to be if they were to redub old Gundam shows, and said, in rather broken English "I think I'd like to be uh... Ramba Ral. THIS IS NO ZAKU, BOY!" *Cue laughter/cheers/applause from entire room*

Well, okay, that and the fact that apparently plans exist to translate the novels. And the fact that Turn-A is licensed, but that was announced like a week before, I just hadn't heard it yet.

As a UC fan that's just finished watching chars counterattack (and for various reasons, feeling a little dissapointed with it) Wishful thinking but I'd love to see an appearance from (the real) char and amuro ray in gundam unicorn. Yes I know they were officially dead in the novel CC was based on, but the film does have an ambiguous ending as far as their fates are concerned.

But I'll guess I'll probably have to make do with chars clone and amuros haro.

Not as epic as I was hoping, but it's still only the first episode, and one that lacks any sort of fault at that. Now to wait for another two years for it all to finish. /o/

Edit: Ryou Hirohashi voices this Haro? Insta-win.

I'm getting senile :) because of the time gap between episode releases I had to watch this again to refresh my memory before watching episode 2, I think I'll rewatch episodes 1 & 2 again before seeing episode 3 in the future too! LOL

Loved the mobile suit transformation scene especially when the one horn split into two to reveal it's a Gundam!

This was amazing. I think that it will end up surpassing Zeta and Char's Counterattack (tied) as my favorite Gundam.

I like Banagher quite a lot and I REALLY like that they brought the Zabi princess back for this one. Seeing characters reappear grown up after several years is one of the best things about the Gundam franchise.

And this goes without saying but WOW was it visually stunning and full of intensity. Much like with Char's Counterattack, I was absolutely glued to the screen the entire time.

One word.... EPIC!! The whole time I was watching this, first thing in my mind "This is one of greatest Gundam OVA's I have seen so far..."

The Visuals are so vivid, highly detailed, immense atmosphere and character designs seem really retro in design but still great in this present time. The sound effects were also amazing. Bringing back the Gundam UC in a big amazing OVA as if they wanted to rebuild the universal century to us again.

I enjoyed the intense action, fight scenes and etc. But one problem I always have the same cliche Gundam does with it starting with a teen boy with unknown new type abilities and obtaining the power of the Gundam during a terrorist attack. : /

Overall it was great!

The plotline was confusing to me at a few points, but my experience with Gundam is limited to Wing and SEED, which I'm sure most fanboys consider the worst of the lot (and which I'm aware take place in completely separate universes than the UC one). The visuals, though, were absolutely amazing, especially the mecha fights. I acquired a Blu-Ray rip which was positively stunning in its quality, and to my surprise the English dub was actually rather well-done as well, especially for a production that must've been rushed.

I might go back and watch some of the older Gundam stuff, but I know in general what's going on in the worldline (and they did let us know the primary backstory in this ep anyway). Some of these characters I'm clearly supposed to recognize, but so far it hasn't really taken away from the enjoyment.

Moving onto the next episode, time to see the Unicorn kick some ass!

This anime has great production values, but that's normal considering it's Sunrise's very own cash cow. I got to say though that it's massively overrated. Good animation and music can only take the show so far, and I ain't sure where the plot will go BUT...

Banagher is the most uninspired protagonist so far. There's nothing interesting with this individual. The rest isn't much either who are just mostly copy pastas from previous UC Gundams. The best Gundam ova is still Gundam 0080 so far.

Omg my eyes exploded!
My ears too for that matter.
There is something very VERY rewarding and satisfying about watching this new and high-budget animation after sitting through the old stuff for about a month non-stop.
My vision was already adjusting to the 80s animation. All of these shiny things caught me off guard.

Intriguing start. No extremely annoying people yet so far which is an A++++.

So. Awesome.
Animation, music, everything basically.
My vision was, like parfaited's above, already adjusting to the 80s animation.

And then I watched the 1st ep (and 2nd + 3rd right afterwards) and actually got a bit teary-eyed simply because of how awesome this was. Rest of the time my ears & eyes were just trying to adjust to the awesomeness of this without exploding/bleeding/etc too much.

I can finally get their hands on Unicorn OVA ! * w *
Premise , I should read first before you see it and I should have a new smattering of Gudam universe , because when I saw the series , then a century has passed since then .
I remember little or nothing.
Not a bad start to the story , he was immediately catapulted into the live , do not miss the action , even there also too much , it is almost stunned by the power and by the sound of frantic battles and actions seen in them. Mecha really beautiful and well made , I do not know about the use of the CG if there is.
The narrative at certain points I can not afferarla well, maybe because I lack the basic foundation for understanding how to do Banagher Links.
Animations and sound really nice , I thought that the length of time of an hour would be long to digest, instead seems to have passed in a flash.
For now , my vote is on the work of 8/10 !

I can not wait to savor the next OVA ... Hooray !

Finally after finishing almost all of UC Anime Era works(besides Turn A Gundam) i finally started this :D

Man the OST is just pure bliss!!! So fucking good. It sounds like a grand battle is about to happen.

I was confused about the Anno Domini being reference in the first few minutes. I thought Gundam 00's era is separate compared to UC era??

Man the fights are really intense and very realistic. Even though i love Gundam 00 and is one of the best animated Gundams due to its fast paced battles. I also like the more realistic style Unicorn is showing. I thought RX-0 is going trans-am mode all of a sudden XD

Animation is godly as ever! Even better than Gundam 00 i think!

Link Banagher is cool. At least he isn't some whiny protagonist like we've been getting from other UC era works(looks at Amuro).

Maria Cruz looks amazing!! She's piloting Qubeley like Gundam.

And wow so Link's father died in front of him without him having a reunion of somesort. Kinda anti-climatic and out of nowhere that Link finds his old home and his father in it.

I expect lots of explosions, killing and deaths in the coming movies episodes ^^

Can't wait for the next episode!!
