| In the same way that the Beatles are THE band, what is the anime that either directly or indirectly influenced everything since, that all other shows are compared against, and is still beloved by fans everywhere today? I would say it's either Akira or Evangelion, for the reasons above. What about you? |

| Hard to say, I don't think there is one anime that directly influenced anime and everything about the stuff. Obviously works like DBZ and Akira are popular for creating a larger fanbase on the western side of the world, but I dunno about 'THE' anime. |

| It's only a matter of opinion. For example, there are people that can argue that the Beatles are not THE band. Someone might say LOTGH is THE anime, some people might say Haruhi is THE anime, some people might say Naruto is THE anime...it depends who you ask. Even someone who has seen EVERY SINGLE anime (coughSakscough) has a bias. |

| I cant decide on an anime that is THE anime for all anime but I can say THE anime for a specific genre i.e Slam Dunk for sports, Sailor Moon for shoujo, DBZ fo shounen etc. |

| Notice I didn't say "your favorite anime." I didn't like Akira much and I didn't even finish Evangelion, but I still recognize their importance to the world of anime. Same with the Beatles, I hate the Beatles, but that doesn't change their place in the history books. |

| Just as the Beatles are NOT "The band", there is no such thing as "The anime"... Too many different people and therefore opinions... I guess it is better to make a list of "Good animes". It would be impossible to decide on one. |
