| It just came out at the worst time possible, your just not gonna beat a big boy like Blizzard with a MOBA-FPS hybrid that quite frankly isn't even that good. Some people prefer because it has a 'story', but the story isn't enough to sell the game. It had potential but just a bad release time and it had micro transactions which isn't helping it. |

| Well, they had social media accounts that liked to try and 'butt heads' with Overwatch. This led to people thinking they're two similar games even though they're very different and Blizzard pretty much shit on them in every way. Plus, this was made by Gearbox Software whom are literally a one-hit wonder company. I'm pretty confident Borderlands just kind of happened as a freak accident and it became so well-renowned. DNF, Aliens: Colonial Marines and Battleborn now are all just terrible or mediocre titles. Everything else Gearbox previously worked on was essentially just them porting works or helping other developers on large projects. Aside from Brothers in Arms, which I think was fantastic; however, even those games got a bit more stale with each new release. |

| Battleborn does have some very good points. In fact, I think it's better than Overwatch in terms of art design and humor. Anyone who has played Borderlands would be very at home with Battleborn. If there's one thing Battleborn has that Overwatch doesn't, it's a story. Overwatch had plenty of lore outside the games but that's about it. Would be more fun if the story and lore is put into the game. However, Battleborn's gameplay is so darn tedious. I think it's clear people just had enough of MOBAs for the most part. Yes, you can choose to play your hero in different ways but at the end of the day, it's still meh. Overwatch is the much better game to play, is quicker to get into and it has the cuter-looking characters. |

They didn't advertise and use social media as well as Blizzard did with Overwatch, and people assume the two games are too similar to play both. In the actual development of the game, they didn't seem to have done anything really wrong. I mean, all the characters look pretty good and fitting for their niche in the setting. (Even if the setting is incredibly crazy, for better or worse.) |

| I listened to the podcast from Totalbiscuit and it seems like there's a lot of dumb marketing and technical aspects that contributed to it's failure as well. The coolest characters locked behind a pay wall, graphically cluttered (even more so than Overwatch), and of course trying to differentiate themselves from LoL (the moba aspect) only to be compared to Overwatch. |
