We all know this is common in animated series in general. When do you feel its appropriate for a young male to be voiced by a woman? Has it ever felt to obvious and out of place on a character to you? When i saw an episode of FMA in sub Al sounded way to feminine for me to believe it was an actual boy.

Megumi Obata hits it out of the park as Shinji Ikari, if you ask me. Especially in Rebuild 2.0.

This glorious signature image was created by @Mayumi!

I am the Arbiter of Absolute Truth, and here is my wisdom:

"Anime was always influenced by the West. This is not news.
Shoujo is the superior genre primarily aimed at young people.
Harem/isekai are lazy genres that refuse any meaningful innovation.
There is no 'Golden Age.' There will always be top-shelf anime.
You should be watching Carole & Tuesday."

Nope, not at all. All that matters is if their voice suits the characters' roles. Romi Park did a ton of teenage-boy roles, and I found nothing wrong with their voices.

As long as it's the first dub I watch, I probably won't mind. But hearing Aoyama (Tokyo mew mew) having a female.dubber after I heard him dubbed by a guy in the Hebrew verison, I started laughing. On the other way around. those the characters I'm most afaid to be dubbed to English or whatever.

Nope, I don't have problem with it. It's common that kids or teenagers voiced by adult on anime.

It sounds completely natural, as teenage characters shout a lot. I don't have a problem with it in the least.

Between female VA and males VA that make my ear bleed (Ikoma) I prefer the female one. The sex doesn't matter if the voice fits.

If the voice fits, then I don't mind. Anyway, it has some sense, because some teenagers didn't mature the voice until later when they became older, so having a "girly" voice it's not that out of place.

Apart, I cannot see Edward Elric voiced by some other who isn't Romi Park.

It depends on how well it's done and what the character is supposed to sound like. It makes sense that Hideyoshi from Baka and Test is voiced by a female but I feel that more masculine teenage boys should be voiced by males. Kamina from Gurren Lagann is only two years older but has a male seiyuu because he's more masculine and deserves a deeper voice.

I usually think it fits pretty great tbh.

About your example FMA, isn't it like Romi Park who's acting? If yes, I agree it doesn't fit and also a part of the reason I dropped FMA for now. Maybe because I've seen other anime with the same voice as young women though.

Most of the time is good and it works pretty well except when Kenshin voiced by a woman(they ruined the battousai persona in the ova at least for me)

They usually do a great job and it has always been like this (so I'm used to it) so no, don't mind it at all. Though I remember when Super Lovers was first announced some crazy tumblr fujoshi complained that the kid would be voiced by a woman and that it's not 'appropriate' given that it's a yaoi anime, had a good laugh reading that thread.

Trye. Heck, when I was just a young girl, I didn't know that Romi Park is a woman, until I saw her profile.
