| As I'm writing this the example in my head is Boku No Pico. Haven't seen it because it looks boring and just not my fetish but I've always wondered: It seems more like a hentai for shotacons than for people who are as straight as an arrow. If so then it probably isn't really that bad(I think?). People just watch stuff outside their comfort zone and then complain. It's probably masterpiece to its target audience(pure speculation once again) I feel kind of bad for the anime. Also for the fans which have been forced into hiding. How to convert this into am AD thread now.....Err so are there other anime which get tagged ''bad'' or receive heat but are simply cases of pandering to a certain audience the way Boku No Pico panders to it own? |

| Boku no Pico is a hentai and really shouldn't be compared with regular non-hentai anime. I mean you wouldn't compare a porn movie with a non-porn movie. And Boku no Pico isn't even THAT bad...it gets a bad rap due to the fact that... A) It's Yaoi B) It's shotacon C) it's basically a meme But it's no worse or better than your regular hentai...it's got a lot of sex and that's it...no big deal. |
| To answer your question at the bottom - probably. People enjoy different things. It's a whatever, honestly. If it doesn't adhere to one's person or interest, people tend to express some form of justification as to why that is. That can be interpreted as criticism or acknowledged simply for what it may be - difference in taste. To the extent that people choose to go about it is what builds the notion that something is 'bad'. |
| The Boku no Pico meme is the reason I finally decided to watch it, and I remember thinking..."Oh shit, just how bad is this gonna be???" In the end it was just traps fucking with each other... The third episode was definitely the best....gotta admit, never thought I could see so many sex positions in a threesome with traps. |

I can't comment on it's quality because I haven't watched it. But as far as I'm aware it's basically just hentai so, it's pedo hentai anime(porn not known for incredible quality) that alot of people are baited into watching. And really, it's popular pedo anime, it's..a meme. No one really critically analysis it, and no one chooses to watch it so it often misses it's target audience. Well, similarly, shounen anime like One Piece pander to people who like shonen and people who don't usually don't like shonen..don't like One Piece. Just like Goku no Piccolo and shotacon But 1. One Piece isn't a one shot, and if BNP isn't a one-shot that's the amount of episodes anyone watches, and 2. There is some difference between dum shonen and shotacon. You make that distinction yourself. Sometimes you don't really know if you'll like something until you try, there's no problem with watching shonen, or shotacon, and realizing adrenaline filled action men or gay pedo anime just isn't for you. |

| I watched Glasslip and I can assure you that it's pretty fucking bad. However, I think it's around as good as Akira which some people still think is a masterpiece and I have seen some people on MAL who don't even hate Glasslip. |

| Well, bad on the MAL rating system is a 4, and really; if an anime's overall rating is 4, you'd better watch out. There are several types of bad anyways. The content is garbage and makes you want to knock nails into a wall with your head It looks like they made the anime by panning a slideshow and moving the mouth parts a bit. The anime looks like a 3rd grader used a flipbook to make it The characters' voices or the soundtrack makes you want to shove chopsticks in your ears Etc. |

| You can't compare hentai to other genres. Hentai is about sexual gratification. It's not even meant to be watched from beginning to end, but only the stuff that turns you on. All other genres are about storytelling. Talk about them, not hentai. |

| The bad you're talking about is preference bad. Somebody who dislikes shotacon yaoi is obviously going to hate Boku no Pico, regardless of whether they've actually watched it or not. It's the same thing with people who hate 90% of harem/ecchi anime for no reason other than the fact that it's harem and ecchi. Some anime aren't necessarily horrible or bad, but they're just not meant for a very wide and public audience. Kind of like the horror genre. I don't really like horror; therefore most horror anime would be bad to me, though it could be good to somebody else. |

I doubt there's an anime that won't please anyone. The world is full of people. The probability someone will enjoy it, someone will find something good in an anime is very high. The difficulty isn't in appealing to a single person but in appealing to a wide audience. |

If you don't like watching mahou shoujo, then it's because it's just not for you. If you don't like slice of life, then that's fine because you like other things. | 1) Boku no Piko isn't necessarily worse than other hentai anime (I didn't bother watching it either). It just has a target audience that is unusually narrow, and gets revulsion from intolerant people outside the target audience. Which is why it's used as a bad recommendation - it's statistically likely to make the viewer feel uncomfortable. Pupa seems to be the same, but with more cannibalism and less pedophilia. It does not mean that such anime are, in fact, bad. 2) A lot of people keep calling SAO "bad". It is not. It's not a masterpiece, but it's pretty good. These people seem to want perfection. That's their crazy point of view, which isn't shared by people like me. I'm sure you've seen this dichotomy in anime already: a girl who strives to be perfect dancer/swordswoman/whatever to the point of losing humanity, versus a girl (or a boy) who enjoys what she does and doesn't forget to rest, make friends, help others and so on. 3) Some anime are better than others. Some are worse. How much of the "worse" end of distribution to call "bad" depends on the person. Is the glass half full or half empty? |

However, you can't compare hentai to SAO, one is there to sexually titillate and the other to entertain.
