Is this another smear campaign against the anime community or does BBC have a point in claiming that autistic people are drawn to manga? Have you been diagnosed as being autistic or at least consider yourself to have autistic tendencies? Does this shed a new light on the MAL community? Was that Yoshi Tatsu's theme song playing throughout the video?

Discuss all this and more.

It's the opposite, reading is hard for autists so they don't get into manga except the big shounen ones.

Don't see why they wouldn't. I mean, manga is a great isolationist activity for socially inept people, right?

It's not only manga, western comics and novels are just fine on this as well. It's far easier to understand character's feelings and personality than to understand IRL peoples' feelings in any of those cases anyway.
So yes, like any of that kind of entertainment, manga can easily become a ...restricted area of interest ? Is that how you say that english?
For peoples in the "autistic spectrum". However, just to say, as an asperger, I certainly am not attracted towards such exuberant shop like the one in that video.

I'd far more like the bookstore to be as calm as a library than anything else.

What can I say? we're all a bunch of Ass-Burger freaks PMSL.

On a more serious note, I guess it depends on each person's definition of autism. I think nowadays 90 percent of the society qualifies as an autistic individual so yeah.

Never heard the term "autists" before.

Honestly thought the thread title was a typo and was supposed to be "Artists love manga"

3 seconds into the video and I already want to commit sudoku

There's probably some semblance of a link, I'm guessing it's possible that manga is more accessible than other forms of media for autistic people?

Still, seems like the BBC want to paint the anime community in a certain light but I reckon it's all about the views, it wouldn't get as much traction as a news story if they gave a comprehensive representation of everyone who likes manga/anime.

Yeah, that's true. When you were a kid you probably wanted to have sex with angels, and torture cats after school. You also wanted to be rich and murder big bullies, in your desolate childhood.

I actually am a little(nono really it s a little) autistic annnndddd, well i would be lying if i said i dont like anime up to the point where its dangerous. No, not as dangerous as having any merch and stuff like that with ecchi posters in my room no. Just watching a lot and stuff. My brother has autism (quite high, its over 9000, jkjk its not, but it isnt low either) and he likes manga to the point where he reads it even when he is doing more impt stuff. But no, this isnt a complaint about him, just that well, I am in an autistic school and some of my friends really are obsessed with ecchi and stuff like that. But yea, autists love manga, does that not make me an autist? since i dont really do manga but anime instead? haha. But BBC, it must be getting serious then. well i think its fine tbh, manga does not hurt anyone so im fine with autists reading it. But heres another big qns, what do they read? To me, i dont think Berserk and Jojo or Tokyo ghoul would appeal to them. Maybe a romance, harem, ecchi thing? Not stereotyping but my brother reads harems and ecchi, romance stuff. so yea...

Eh, I don't think it's a smear campaign, just hilariously misguided. I see what they are trying to do, by raising awareness of what people with autism tend to do to unwind, but they way they presented this makes it seem like they are instead saying "animu and mango iz 4 autists lol ownede!!!!!!!!!!".

Also, they may be cringy autists, but at least the people in the shop are having fun, unlike the autistic /pol/tards in the comments section lmao

To alot of people, anyone who is the least bit nerdy or introverted is autistic. Which would include about 95% of MAL users

Introverted people in general flock towards anime/manga/games.

Autism/aspergers is a communication disorder so obviously they would be introverted by nature as well.

Not a very difficult concept to understand why they're like this.

This isn't news...

BBC previously demonized the entire country of Japan for having Lolicon manga...They equivocated said manga to REAL CP...

The BBC are some of the biggest cucks in Britain....they constantly make apologetic shit for Islam too...

They're ultra liberal pussies.
