@Truth4Lies inb4 he uses it on Sasha because Armin is or will be already ded by the time Levi arrives and Erwin won't survive the trip back to Shiganshina.

OT: I'm sad, Armin was one of my favorites and his slow and painful death was hard to read. Eren and Mikasa (even moreso Eren) will be broken now.

That was surprising. I never thought that Armin would get roasted that badly. It's sad to assume that he's good as dead in his current condition. I am convinced that it'd be Armin to die because of what Isayama had previously said in one of his interviews. One main character among the Shiganshina Trio will die.

Still, I did hope that some miracle would happen but I doubt it :'c

It's Levi making tough decisions again as to who he will be reviving with the serum.

At this point of my post, I still haven't seen the entire pages of this chapter. I'll read the full content once a translation of the whole chapter is released.

yeah my first reaction was to think levi would have to choose between erwin and armin but just doesn't make real sense. levi is still fighting and too far away from what's happening inside. he wouldn't even know what just happened.
i'm pretty sure though something else entirely will happen. maybe involving the basement (finally!) or something else. i don't think armin's fate is decided already :o

Armin....Sasha.....Goddammit!!!

*EDIT*

So Reiner and Bertolt lost.....but after the f**king sacrifices from Armin...and Sasha is maybe fatally injured....and Armin is currently truly Mortally wounded and K.O / Or already dead.....that was Death Flag earlier chapters and looks that is over 30-70 % body with burn wounds...and that is Fatal.

Hanji lives yey..but still sad chapter

What I don't understand -- and with the complete translation perhaps it will be clearer -- is why in the hell Armin was the one to draw the steam and get roasted when Eren could have done that part and survived. Armin could have taken out the Colossal from behind instead (or Mikasa, or anybody...).

And did Eren know beforehand he was planning to sacrifice his life or try to talk him out of it?

Ugh, I'm so angry right now. It's bad enough my favorite character in SnK died, but as of right now it seems so preventable as well. ;_;

I haven't read the translation yet, but I'm pretty sure eren hardening trick is what fool bertholdt into thinking he was still there down below. And that is what made eren had that surprise attack.

Remember mikasa, and company already tried that trick and it didn't work. Look at the last few chapters and you will see bertholt looking down on Eden harden body.

One thing I think it is worth prasing the author is how good he made the battle between humans and titans. When you look at these chapters you see how one-sided this battle is. An ofensive against the beast titan cost more than half of the soldiers, probably. Every odd is in the titan's favor and yet there is something, maybe willpower or an instinct to keep breathing that forces these soldier to keep fighting, really impressive

Watching the anime: Um... so the narrator is Armin? Good, that means he'll survive till the end.
Today: Holy fuck!! Dammit Isayamaaaaa!!!!

Impactful episode. At first the pretty obvious death flag when Armin reminded Eren of their promise made it feel like I was reading another series. What's interesting is that deep down Eren knows that's a lie yet he still goes ahead with the plan... for the greater good.
Not much in the way of dialogues in this chapter, mostly focused on Armin's internal monologue and lots of visceral action. As sad as it was
to see him being slowly fried, it was satisfying to see Reiner and Bertoldt being finally owned.
So... next month I guess we'll be seeing Levi vs Ape titan: round 2.

Yeah, you're right. Bert thought he knew where everyone was and that was why it worked. Plus narrative-wise, I guess it had to be Eren who took down the Colossal titan.

Think I let my emotions get the better of my reading comprehension there. ^.^

Great plan to trick Berthold with the hardening/Armin decoy but didn't think he'll end up like that ;-; I'm surprised Eren just went along with it knowing what would happen...Respect for both.

but finally Renier and Bertholdt are defeated

so in few more chapters they can go to the basement of Eren's old house to know all the secrets of this fucking titan mess lol

I'm honestly in two minds over whether Armin is actually dead, the ending line "EVEN IF THE FLAME OF LIFE EXTINGUISHES… THE DREAMS ENTRUSTED TO FRIENDS WILL NEVER DISSIPATE." makes it seem like it's the end for him, but he doesn't look like he's fatally injured on the final page... Thoughts?

I don't think that he'll be injected with the serum because Levi has it (right?) and he has his own fight to deal with, he wouldn't get back in time to save Armin...

So basically I'm a grad student in Japan who has minimum Japanese skills. However today in my lab my friend approached me with such a spoiler-y face mentioning Shingeki, and I wanted to be free from spoiler SO MUCH I ran to the Lawson nearest my campus to buy the newest Bessatsu Shonen Magazine. Had to be assisted to read the whole thing by the aforementioned friend who translated the hard parts for me.

The thing is if you look at the dialogue closely, there is no finality of Armin's death. Eren's dialogue at the end just said that "your bravery... it's more than anybody else's", and over and over when he got roasted Armin kept repeating that he had a promise to go to the sea with Eren. And that's also how he got Eren into it, before executing everything he said "I've never told a lie to you, haven't I? (I will fulfill that promise.)"

Hence, the dilemma of Titan syringe.

I think Armin will survive but I don't think anything on the dialogue justifies it. On the contrary, it's clear that Armin is lying to Eren, otherwise Eren would never go with the plan if he knows Armin was going to possibly die.

And Armin knows that he is most likely going to die, this is why he said on last chapter:

"If this strategy is successful…
I probably…won’t be able to see the ocean…"

And on this chapter:

"I can’t…I can’t let go yet…
I want to entrust everything to Eren. My dream, my life, everything…
What I can abandon now are only these.
If it’s Eren, he’ll definitely reach the ocean…
…and he will see it on my behalf."

He knows he is sacrificing himself, but obviously he can't let Eren know that. But if he survives, of course the manga won't give any hints of it until the last moment, to keep the tension.

Hmm that might be true. I guess I am kind of in denial because killing both Erwin and Armin (and both are in equal situations of entrusting everything to their best friends) are just too much to take for two consecutive chapters for the human team (and for me ;_;) as it would tip the balance of characters due to losing two strategists at the same time...

Hence the syringe dilemma (again)

I honestly doubt both of them will die. Or maybe that's just what I'm hoping, haha.

I think Armin will survive and Erwin will die. And this chapter has changed how Erwin's possible death would look in the future even more, in case of Armin taking the serum.

Knowing what we knew on last chapter, if Erwin had died, many would have thought "he could have been saved!". Including Levi, which would have been again on that position where he lost someone again and couldn't save them.

But now that Armin is about to die, if the serum is used on him, then the way we look at Erwin's death changes. If Erwin had been saved then Armin would have died. If this is going to happen, then it would make sense that it's intentional to have both characters almost die on consecutive chapters, and would ease people into accepting Erwin's death.

This is all wild speculation on my part though, anything can happen at this point, maybe no one takes the serum, and maybe they both die. But I believe Erwin's story is done, while there's a lot still left to be told about Armin, and on top of that he is a protagonist holding the promise that has been all they have dreamed during all the story... I don't think his death would make much sense.

Or maybe I'm in denial too :D

Boy oh boy what a chapter. Hange is confirmed to be alive and a surprise attack on Reiner to help defeat him. Sasha and Jean looks to be in pretty bad conditions more so Sasha. Can't forgot the MVP of this chapter Armin that glorious bastard what a brutal way to go out if he is dead and for Eren to get the finishing blow on the Colossal Titan.

Nice to see Hange alive, but my god I didn't expect one of the trio to die this early.

As much as it'd suck if he is dead, if he's not confirmed dead in the next chapter, that'll be sorta ridiculous. He was cooked alive and thrown down meters and meters onto the roofs below.

There is only one question left after this chapter:

I personally think Erwin is dead, but to be honest I think if you had to use the Serum on one of them, it be Erwin, cuz Armin's character just doesn't seem to fit that type of role, although, as I'm writing this I'm thinking Armin being a shifter could be interesting.
I think at the end of the day Erwin would be the more logical choice, as Armin's death would have a bigger impact on the characters,
Because everybody knew there was a low chance of Erwin surviving with only one arm, furthermore the Scouting Legion can function without Erwin. Armin though, Armin is a whole other topic. Armin is practically family to both Eren and Mikasa, furthermore he has been shown to be just as if not more clever than Erwin.
Armin's death would affect everybody, significantly. Everyone has become friends with him, thus it cause more emotional turmoil, and push the characters even harder, that and He's burnt to charcoal.

Then there is Sasha, which I think there will be no need for her to turn into a shifter, they'll probably be able to save her. Then there is that single soldier who survived the suicide charge against the beast titan.

So My bets are probably on Erwin (unless the serum works on dead people). Epsicially now that they have both Reiner and Bertholdt.
